Hi all. I thought I’d make a new thread as the countdown one is filling up.
Results day is here and I’m sure we will all value each others support, today and for the next stage of their journeys.

Absolutely gutted for DS. He’s in his firm choice which he didn’t want (long story!) but got a very unexpected B in his best subject (the one he is doing at Uni). Today was supposed to be trying to get into Loughborough and now he has no chance.

Declining your firm place

If you no longer want to go to your firm choice, you can use the ‘Decline your place’ button in your application.

mum11970 · 17/08/2023 08:42

Are you sure he can’t try and swap through clearing? I’d double check with someone knowledgeable.

Unfortunately not. He wanted Loughborough which needs A star AA so he has no chance now. He was 2 marks off an A star in Psychology so going for a remark but that’s not going to change the B

Majorityofthree23 · 17/08/2023 08:46

Results in and missed the offer grades but offer confirmed anyway. Bit of a rollercoaster of a morning but very happy outcome. Good luck to everyone

mrsconradfisher · 17/08/2023 08:47

Thank you but there is no point as he won’t now get into Loughborough. It’s the B which is the issue. I’m so so gutted for him.

Iworkformeanies · 17/08/2023 08:48

Pressed too soon. Phone Loughborough and have a discussion with them. If they are able to make a verbal offer he can decline his firm, put himself into clearing and take up their offer.

blackpear · 17/08/2023 08:48

DS’s results are disappointing, but he is off to Swansea, which was his firm, so overall he’s very happy.

I’m sorry @mrsconradfisher . Hopefully now he has some certainty he will come round to his firm.

Very surprised here as straight A/A* DD got ABB.
Shes very upset but she’s having a gap year anyway so it’s not a problem

Same here.
im wondering if that has been the case quite a bit this year.
ds got a B in one if his subjects but apparently, the same marks would given given him an A* last year!

Riverpebble · 17/08/2023 08:49

Mine has got what’s needed and is in his first choice

A star a star a and distinction in Tech Theatre - shaking and tears - Durham here she come!

hope everyone else has good news and thanks for support xx

So pleased to hear this - been following your DD’s Durham journey since November 🎉🎉

Cantonet · 17/08/2023 08:50

3×A here, so she's into UCL.
I'm very relieved especially as she's just woken up! They had calming tea last night. I wonder what was in it 😂

Dingbats876 · 17/08/2023 08:51

DS just got his grades. Offer was AAA, it’s in clearing at ABB and he got BBB. He’s surprised they still accepted him but I think maybe this year is a massive readjustment away from expecting all kids to get As.

We’ve had the same situation. DS got a B in his best subject, the one he is doing at Uni whereas he has got A throughout the course and an A star in his mock (marked to 2019 grade boundaries).

Outnumberedbytwo · 17/08/2023 08:53

Good news in our house this morning too. Dd somehow got 3 A stars and has had her firm choice of natsci at Birmingham confirmed. Delighted for your dd too @KittyMcKitty as I’ve been following her progress since exams

chosenone · 17/08/2023 08:53

I've already looked at the grade boundaries and they're much higher than last year and even a tiny bit higher than 2019 😩

My DD did less well than expected last year and went to her insurance. She is loving it and absolutely excelling.

It is tough but the resilience she has developed as a result is amazing and I am so proud of her for that.

AInightingale · 17/08/2023 08:54

Netcam · 17/08/2023 08:38

So proud of my son. He is dyslexic and didn't really learn to read fluently until he was 11. He was home educated until the end of his GCSEs and then went to our local school 6th form, his first time in formal education, to study for 4 A levels. I am so proud of him. He got Maths A, Further Maths A, Physics A*, Computer Science A. So he's going to Durham university to study Maths.

Brilliant! My niece who was dyslexic and struggled and needed 1:1 in primary school has just got a first in her teaching degree. A child who has these difficulties is such a worry but it can be turned around. Best of luck to your DS.

MarshaBradyo · 17/08/2023 08:54

Ds got the A and A stars required

Meant to say Mech Eng at Leeds

So happy, dh and I took the day off

Chickydoo · 17/08/2023 08:55

AAA here, Nottingham here we come Phew!!!

Thethingswedoforlove · 17/08/2023 08:57

Same here @Chickydoo congrats to your dc. What are they studying and do they have accom firmed up?

LaDeeDa123 · 17/08/2023 08:58

Where’s his firm @mrsconradfisher ? Perhaps people on here have experience of it and can put his mind at rest?

That's the message I'm hearing. Lots of missed A*A but unis coming confirming places.

KittyMcKitty · 17/08/2023 09:00

lastdayatschool · 17/08/2023 08:44

Absolutely delighted for your DD and you @KittyMcKitty - such a great University and a beautiful city. She will have the best time there

Thank you - she’s thrilled - neither dh or I went to Uni so thrilled for her. She got the A stars in Biology and Psychology which were her predictions but so thrilled about the A in Chemistry which has been a very very rocky ride! I can’t believe today really so proud of her and also her older brother who also did so well 2 years ago.

Congratulations to all dc today and those who are disappointed I am sure things will work out x

Lordofmyflies · 17/08/2023 09:00

DS needed 3A for Exeter, predicted 2A and an A* , got 2B and 1 A. Thankfully Exeter has confirmed his place and he's happy but there does seem to be a big readjustment in grades this year.
