Hi all. I thought I’d make a new thread as the countdown one is filling up.
Results day is here and I’m sure we will all value each others support, today and for the next stage of their journeys.

A star/A/A here which will be more than enough for CAO round 1 offer for Dublin. Just got to wait another couple of weeks to see it confirmed in black and white. Confirmed firm for UCAS and will hold it for now until CAO offers are out in 2 weeks.

Very relieved all round - like others she dropped significantly in one subject - predicted Astar, and has sat on the borderline between A/Astar for 2 years. Ended up scraping an A overall, but only because she did so well last year in AS - actually got B in both papers this year.

Friends all seem to be happy for now except for 1 - disappointed with results, but has first choice UCAS confirmed. Really wanted Trinity (Dublin) though and is very unlikely to get an offer based on results.

Neversaygoodbye · 17/08/2023 09:19

Posted on the old thread...DD got into firm choice of Surrey with lower than needed grades (slight disappointment in grades). She thought she'd missed out as couldn't get into UCAS but then saw the congratulations email, her face lit up like a beacon. Very happy and I can stop stressing now, well until next Thursday for DS GCSE's.

Just catching up, so many to say well done to, happy tears for sure!

@mrsconradfisher I am so sorry about your son and I feel his and your pain. You said he was really not keen on Brum - was there anywhere else where research looked good? I think you spoke about Lancaster, Bath? Might be worth looking in clearing. But he needs to mourn the loss of his dream. This was my DD four years ago. I'm so sorry. But there will be a way for him to achieve a great degree. Thinking of you.

Missed grades here and bitterly disappointed. Very unexpected.
No email from firm choice, but UCAS says place confirmed (on 14th August) - does that mean it’s ok?

If it's confirmed on UCAS then it is confirmed, so that's good!

Not all unis will email out on results day.

Cocopogo · 17/08/2023 09:22

DS so pleased with A* in further maths as he said it was tough. He’s going to Manchester to do maths

cuckyplunt · 17/08/2023 09:22

Grade boundaries seem brutal and the universities accommodating . Both mine first choice unis.
DD1 got in with B, C, D on a B, B, A requirement. DD2 got in on A*, C, D on the same requirement.
I wish they wouldn’t play politics with our children’s lives.

Bad news for my DS a C,D and a U. Missed offer from ox brookes but ucas says still deciding- is it worth calling them direct?

Sorry it's been bad news.

I would say yes, it is worth calling if no decision has been made. Reiterate how keen he is on the university, and also ask for a timeline on decisions.

May also be worth looking at foundation years or similar in clearing?

willWillSmithsmith · 17/08/2023 09:25

Just wanted to say thinking of everyone today who got or are waiting results. My son dropped out of his second year so no results for us 😞 good news is he’s decided to restart year 2 next month so I’m hoping I will be nervous and stressed this time next year awaiting his results.

LaDeeDa123 · 17/08/2023 09:26

What’s his subject @moshmoshi ?

Thank you so much, I’m honestly so upset for him. The problem is the B as all the courses (apart from Birmingham) are AAA.

I really think they have been marked so harshly. Every one of DS’s friends have missed their grades, most notably a very talented musician predicted an easy A* in music came out with a D.

UnfunnyJester · 17/08/2023 09:30

Ds missed a B by 4 marks. Uni have offered a foundation year. That grade could make the difference to get him back onto the degree.
Should I get it re-marked?

(Ds accepted the foundation course but still disappointed)

tribpot · 17/08/2023 09:31

Has the Lancaster course not lowered its requirement @mrsconradfisher ? I saw yesterday that for DS' course it was significantly down on what it had offered originally. I think I would phone a few of them and see if they're willing to be accommodating. I really liked Lancaster FWIW,

moshmoshi · 17/08/2023 09:34

Paramedic science- I’ve just seen it has gone into clearing so that doesn’t look good

dubyalass · 17/08/2023 09:34

Gosh this is bringing back memories! FWIW I didn't get the grades for my firm (Nottingham) but I got my insurance choice (Sheffield). Had an absolutely brilliant time although I thought it was the end of the world at the time.

Whinge · 17/08/2023 09:37

It's definitely worth calling. There's a very good chance they're willing to accept lower grades to get bums on sets. As you can see from several posters on here students are being accepted even if they've missed the offers by 1 or even 2 grades.

DD into Lancaster with A* CD when requirement was ABB. There is hope!

I’m trying to persuade him to call he thinks he should wait till a decision has been made. There’s a foundation year at uni if Wolverhampton but he wants to take a gap year

Pandamumium · 17/08/2023 09:40

Got her first choice uni! I can stop feeling sick now.

Have you discussed it with the school? It's not quite a remark any more, but a review of marking (or something similar) so less potential for results to change.

I'd ask the school for their opinion (it will have to go via them anyway)- they will likely be able to tell you if they think it will be a complete waste of money.

If you go for a review of marking, then make sure you let the uni know so they can hold the original place.

He has nothing to lose by calling and at least would know the time frames involved.

Perhaps a compromise if he doesn't hear anything by tomorrow morning, he could call?

FWIW it seems like A* grade boundaries have actually gone up in a lot of subjects as well- only by a few marks, but could make a difference.

Have you discussed a review of marking with the school if it's close-ish?

It may be worth calling courses in clearing- even if they are asking for AAA, they may not get it, so may be willing to consider your DS?
