Hi all. I thought I’d make a new thread as the countdown one is filling up.
Results day is here and I’m sure we will all value each others support, today and for the next stage of their journeys.

As a teacher I do not know the results. Unsure who does until 8am ... Daffodil

PettsWoodParadise · 17/08/2023 07:06

Good luck all! Just doing breakfast, why does it feel more like a final last meal?

keiratwiceknightly · 17/08/2023 07:06

I'm a teacher. A small team of staff - head, head of sixth, exams officer, some SLT members etc will have been in school yesterday looking at the results and preparing for today. Not me though.

flotsomandjetsome · 17/08/2023 07:07

@halfthesun thanks!

Teachers at DSs school have mastered the 'big smile' for everyone which can easily throw you.

Omg overthinking much!,

stoneysongs · 17/08/2023 07:08

DS said yesterday afternoon “great news” - so I thought maybe his chosen course was showing in clearing with reduced requirements or something. But no - the “great news” was that he’d secured a friend’s ID for clubbing tonight (he’s not 18 till next week)!

😂😂 I love this!
Good luck everyone 🍀

I’m friends with two of his teachers. I’m not talking to them at all until after it’s over 🙂

keiratwiceknightly · 17/08/2023 07:09

I can't decide if today is better or worse than two years ago when I had one opening A levels on Tuesday and one opening GCSE on Thursday - that was an emotional rollercoaster but they were teacher assessed grades and the A level student had chosen to defer so it felt less final. ARgh.

aleC4 · 17/08/2023 07:09

Morning all. Not really slept, feel so sick.
I think ds is still asleep. I'm guessing both of us will just throw some clothes on at 7.45 and head out. There's no way I can eat breakfast.

The head of sixth form is a friend of mine. I will not text him!

Tintin2006 · 17/08/2023 07:10

Full-time Private Tutor here. An IGCSE student yesterday got a 9 in History with 93% in coursework, and now waiting with bated breath for A-Levels.

Lordofmyflies · 17/08/2023 07:10

DS is still fast asleep. We have 30 mins before we have to drive to school to get the envelope. He's obviously v stressed!!

AfingeroffudgeisNOTenough · 17/08/2023 07:11

@flotsomandjetsome JCQ guidelines are clear the only senior members of staff should know the results on the Wednesday and general teaching staff should not. How that is interpreted by different schools however is a little more vague. The school I used to work in would have had examinations officer, all of SLT and also HODs in on the Wednesday. The reality is that the HODs didn’t really need to know, but they were counted as senior staff so got to come in. My friend is subject leader for one subject but also teaches another 2 so would check the results for all 3 of her classes even though she didn’t technically need to know any of them. Other schools I would imagine are stricter and would keep it to the absolute bare minimum. (Which is what JCQ means!)

Snap - this was us exactly 2 years ago. Today feels significantly worse!

DailyMaui · 17/08/2023 07:14

I was awake at 0500 which is shite because I only fell asleep at about 1am.

I have my daughter and her girlfriend here - girlfriend’s mum died only a few years ago and she’s quite fragile. Both were nervous yesterday but spent the evening looking at what clearing options they might have.

this is way more stressful than with my DS who was taking a gap year. My DD and her girlfriend both have Exeter as their firm and both need A’s. They have worked so so hard, way harder than my DS did and I feel sick at the thought that the grades have gone down. I know that it means everyone’s will have but she will devastated if she doesn’t get her predicted as she’s been so focussed, especially in her chosen subject which she is very passionate about.

i feel a bit tearful, not gonna lie. She’s had a tough couple of years with mental health issues, self harming,, just been diagnosed with ADHD… I’m worried about what today may bring.

I have barely been on the last thread but it has been a huge comfort to me to read it with you all. Here’s to the future…

Darkbutstarrynight · 17/08/2023 07:14

Good luck to everyone......this is worse than waiting for the Dentist which I really hate! Going to check UCAS then head up to school but it's only a few minutes away and not open until 8:30 so hoping to know re Uni before we get to school

DrMadelineMaxwell · 17/08/2023 07:15

Another one with a terrible nights sleep here. Not overthinking or worrying but just kept waking up knowing that today is a big day.

Dd has heard that lots are going in so revised plan is to log on at 8 if it is working. Check emails which can arrive at any time and head into college to say a few thank yous to favourite teachers. With a quick stop at the supermarket next door for some chocs.

That's if things don't go awry!

Hate the waiting.

IsletsOfLangerhans · 17/08/2023 07:15

Morning. I’ve also been awake since 5 am and DD is awake too. Feeling so nervous; I’m also a private tutor and always feel nervous for my students every year, but this is another level having my daughter in the mix 😳

Laburnam · 17/08/2023 07:16

Good luck everyone crap night sleep here even the dog . Seems like an end of an era as high school has been such a massive part of our lives so there is lots of emotions going on right now for me as well

CrapBucket · 17/08/2023 07:16

Good luck all. What a strange day for everyone.

WeWillLookBack · 17/08/2023 07:16

DS - school doesn't open until 9am !! and has decided NOT to check UCAS at 8am - wants his grades first. Needs 3 x As

He is fine.

I cried twice yesterday (to DH), went to bed at 10pm. Awake at 12.03am. Awake at 2.46am. Awake at 4.49am. Got up - drinking coffee.

I have GCSE results next Thursday for the younger DS. Not sure if I will make it....

Cantonet · 17/08/2023 07:17

Just registering my interest on this thread. Third time around picking up A level results & it doesn't get any easier.

Tintin2006 · 17/08/2023 07:18

The Unis?

Hellohah · 17/08/2023 07:20

Good luck to all, only 40 minutes to go.

I've just got the stress of the results, no uni application and that is hard enough. Feeling for you all with futures more finely hanging in the balance.

Peverellshire · 17/08/2023 07:21

Morning. Is it better to go wherever will take you, to keep momentum, or take year out and retake? If extremely clever, A star predictions, GCSE 9s etc, Oxbridge offer etc, but completely threw exams? Think Es, etc as walked out in panic…

PermanentTemporary · 17/08/2023 07:21

Can't stay away - it's my nephew I'm waiting to hear about and it feels almost like waiting for ds last year. Hoping for timely emails all round.
