Hi all. I thought I’d make a new thread as the countdown one is filling up.
Results day is here and I’m sure we will all value each others support, today and for the next stage of their journeys.

Thanks for the new thread, been following the previous one but not posted. Good luck to everyone.

isthatmyage · 17/08/2023 07:43

Good luck everyone, DH getting DD a maccies breakfast then we're off....

Cocopogo · 17/08/2023 07:44

DS is refreshing between UCAS and college.
So nervous for him now his insurance choice, Lancaster, has lost their Bsc status. Those looking at Lancaster in clearing just be aware of this.

Juja · 17/08/2023 07:46

Good luck to all - last year I was in your position and I so totally feel your nerves, sickness, lack of sleep etc

My DD was fortunate and all went well. For my DN, same day, she slipped a grade and lost her firm and insurance places but.... Clearing = worked very well. She found two good options and took a couple of days to choose going to visit them and check out accomodation. Worth a bit of effort though admittedly hard to pick yourself up and pivot so quickly. DN has loved where she's gone.

Morning all, wishing everyone well today.
Regarding UCAS updates, does it update on the actual university status? So would it show whether you have been successful in receiving an offer from a specific university or not?
My daughter is unsure of whether to look or not before receiving results. Thanks

DD got her first choice and when track updated it said "We are pleased to confirm your place at the University of Bath".

Good luck everyone. Reading your posts this morning has transported me back to how I felt on our results days and they were nearly 10 years ago!! My dd woke up to find an email from her vet school saying something like "we look forward to seeing you soon" that had arrived at about 4am. Much discussion then about whether that definitely meant she had a place or not, or was it an error and a painful couple of hours waiting to see her results which ended up being better than expected which was lovely! A couple of years later and the college computer system went down and my ds had to wait until we got there in person to find out his results, but he was pretty chilled about the whole thing. Still feel sick thinking about it all now 😅

toomuchlikemyusername · 17/08/2023 07:52

Morning all. Yet another terrible nights sleep here. DS is up and about...8 minutes and counting. Best wishes to everyone...

Ellmau · 17/08/2023 07:53

Good luck everyone!

There’s no one right answer. If your DC is still feeling shocked by their exam experience, it might be compounded by rushing into a place anywhere that will have them. If the results are reasonable but not stellar, and they feel ready to move on, then sure, keep momentum and look at Clearing. If results are in D-E territory and they are v academic type, then maybe resits are a good idea.
what has your DC been saying up to now?
college/ school will be able to advise.

Thank you, in denial about how badly must have gone, unfortunately. Walked out after 20 mins in a few exams, so…

Fragile confidence & self worth caught up in academics, unfortunately, Scholar through school etc, worried about peers as I think they’ll excel. Worry will leave DC super low.

halfbakedkate · 17/08/2023 07:56

@honeyandfizz thank you, at this point not sure if it will add to the stress or not..!

Nugg · 17/08/2023 07:57

My child is going to log in around 10!!!! They reckon. Wtf. They're not in the country so I can't even nag...!!!!

fernsandlilies · 17/08/2023 07:57

I’m sorry to hear that Peverell, my DS is similar. He took a gap year, worked locally, and it was the making of him because he found a new value in himself. Fingers crossed for your DC whichever way it turns out

They will go far IME, :)

TeenDivided · 17/08/2023 07:59

Grade boundaries depend on the percentage they want to give each final grade, but also on the difficulty of the exam. So if an exam was 'easier' then boundaries will end up being a bit higher.
The % of each grade is meant to be at about 2019 levels.

Chickydoo · 17/08/2023 08:00

Here we go!!!

Cocopogo · 17/08/2023 08:01

Nothing yet

YouOKHun · 17/08/2023 08:01

I’m also checking in late in the day. I’m philosophical. What will be will be and grades will be lower this year. Whatever happens there is always a way through and another path to follow. Best of luck to all your DCs. My DS is at work so I am hoping the news is OK as he’s stuck there.

anchorbuttercakes · 17/08/2023 08:01

very best of luck to all your DCs

Really glad to hear! Thank you. Working definitely helps. Smarts may not be A level shaped & don’t disappear.

Fifireee · 17/08/2023 08:01

My dd isn’t going to look until she feels ready.
I wish she would because I seem to have forgotten how to breathe.

Chickydoo · 17/08/2023 08:02

Nothing here yet either

groovejet · 17/08/2023 08:02

Good luck, everyone.

I am more nervous than DD, I am proud of how hard she has worked regardless but just want her to be happy. She had one really bad exam that dented her confidence but hard to know if that was her being hard on herself. Going to be feeling all these emotions again next week for DD2's GCSE results.

AlwaysFreezing · 17/08/2023 08:03

Nothing yet....

Sssudio · 17/08/2023 08:04

ds gone quiet, checking stuff on his phone, don’t dare ask

pinkpip100 · 17/08/2023 08:04

@groovejet same here re: doing it all again next week, although today's results do feel a bit more high stakes. DC1 has just gone into school to collect, I'm waiting to hear....
