Hi all. I thought I’d make a new thread as the countdown one is filling up.
Results day is here and I’m sure we will all value each others support, today and for the next stage of their journeys.

When did UCAS update last year, folks?

PacificState · 17/08/2023 07:23

I had the A level/GCSE double two years ago as well, but didn't feel this nervous at all - it felt so unlikely that DS1 wouldn't have got what he needed with the benefit of TAGs. It's a different kettle of fish when it's anonymous (to us) examiners and moderators.

HairyMaclary · 17/08/2023 07:23

Thanks for the new thread. Getting v close now.

DS telling me how high the grade boundaries are in maths 81/ for an A* apparently. No idea how he knows, he’s not doing maths either, dropped it after AS, but lots of his friends are.

Chickydoo · 17/08/2023 07:23

Thank you for the new thread.
Have showered and just about to get dressed & wake up the sleeping teen. Oh God, almost there!

Peverellshire · 17/08/2023 07:24

Are grade boundaries back to pre Covid times? Keep hearing grades will dip dramatically from last year but not sure?

HairyMaclary · 17/08/2023 07:24

Also got GCSEs next week. Hoping to sleep between them but have a night out with friends tomorrow which should help take my mind off everything. Work is not helping!

HairyMaclary · 17/08/2023 07:26

I didn’t think grade boundaries would be high, just the distribution of grades would be adjusted to 2019. Tbh I’m past caring, it won’t make a difference now!

Marmalade71 · 17/08/2023 07:26

@Tintin2006 I think I heard the roar from DS's room at about 8.10 but that will be when he woke up and looked rather than when it updated. He said that some of his mates knew their UCAS status (not grades of course) by 7.45

Darkbutstarrynight · 17/08/2023 07:26

DS has friends who are abroad, and they have found that Edexcel have managed to embargo the grade boundaries when the site is opened here.....but due to time differences, they haven't set the site to being blocked from other countries! Apparently the grade boundaries are very similar to 2021, possibly slightly higher...

Darkbutstarrynight · 17/08/2023 07:29

Sorry, that should have been similar to 2019

Dingbats876 · 17/08/2023 07:29

Just woke DS up and got him to log into UCAS! No update though.

PermanentTemporary · 17/08/2023 07:31

I think last year we found out just after 8? We'd gone up to school and were sitting in the car and ds looked again just before we got out.

Snap - this was us exactly 2 years ago. Today feels significantly worse!

Yes today feels worse. We were overseas that year too so had to wait until 10am!! Was much less nerve racking as DD1 had already secured an apprenticeship that wasn’t grade dependant, whereas DD2 & today is rather different.
None of her 5 offers are in clearing for her course. So I was up last night looking at various unis but could only find two for her course. Both around a 5/6 hour drive away. Praying not needed. Off to get a shower to kill the last half hour.

JulesJules · 17/08/2023 07:33

Just woken D2 up and put a croissant in the oven for her. I've been awake since 3.45 haha

AlwaysFreezing · 17/08/2023 07:34

aleC4 · 17/08/2023 07:09

Morning all. Not really slept, feel so sick.
I think ds is still asleep. I'm guessing both of us will just throw some clothes on at 7.45 and head out. There's no way I can eat breakfast.

I've sent you a pm.

Cantonet · 17/08/2023 07:34

DD got her cie result last week & she said the grade boundary for an A/A* was a couple of points higher than last year.

JessieMontgomery · 17/08/2023 07:35

Good luck everyone! DS did not sleep - nerves finally coming through. Realistically Astar AA for Edinburgh is very unlikely but there’s still hope until 8am!

ApolloandDaphne · 17/08/2023 07:35

Good luck to all your DC today. I'm very glad mine are now through both school and uni!

mrsconradfisher · 17/08/2023 07:35

I actually feel sick. DS has just surfaced and now making coffee before we drive to school for 8am.

His Psychology tutor messaged last night (we had to get a tutor in January as his teacher left with no replacement!) wishing him good luck for today. She is an AQA examiner and I so wanted to ask her about the results but thought it best I didn’t.

Good luck to everyone.

DinkyDaisy · 17/08/2023 07:37

All this grade boundaries talk not helping me!

honeyandfizz · 17/08/2023 07:38

Tintin2006 · 17/08/2023 07:22

When did UCAS update last year, folks?

It was bang on 8am last year for DD. It went like this - "UCAS will update in 10-9-8-7-6........" DD said she couldn't look but then did and started screaming, all was ok thankfully!

DS turn this morning but he put very little effort in so I will be amazed if he did remotely well. Feel disappointed in him really as he has so much potential but he just CBA. He is taking a year out anyway which I support so we will see what this morning brings.

halfbakedkate · 17/08/2023 07:39

Morning all, wishing everyone well today.
Regarding UCAS updates, does it update on the actual university status? So would it show whether you have been successful in receiving an offer from a specific university or not?
My daughter is unsure of whether to look or not before receiving results. Thanks

JessieMontgomery · 17/08/2023 07:41

My son is seeing grace boundaries on Reddit - maths higher than 2019?? Can this be correct?

fernsandlilies · 17/08/2023 07:41

Peverellshire · 17/08/2023 07:21

Morning. Is it better to go wherever will take you, to keep momentum, or take year out and retake? If extremely clever, A star predictions, GCSE 9s etc, Oxbridge offer etc, but completely threw exams? Think Es, etc as walked out in panic…

There’s no one right answer. If your DC is still feeling shocked by their exam experience, it might be compounded by rushing into a place anywhere that will have them. If the results are reasonable but not stellar, and they feel ready to move on, then sure, keep momentum and look at Clearing. If results are in D-E territory and they are v academic type, then maybe resits are a good idea.
what has your DC been saying up to now?
college/ school will be able to advise.
