Following on from the A level support thread I thought I would create one for results day.
Hopefully you will all join me for the long nail biting wait and the big day at the end of it!

Waved DS off to school for the final time today, after a last minute rush to gather up text books & tech that need returning today - honestly the school will still be there next week could they not have let them do it then rather than on the day of their final exam!

Anyway, lunch with us & out with friends later today, and looking forward to travelling with his GF this summer before Uni.

Roll on results, hope everyone's DC have a great summer until then.

Nugg · 23/06/2023 09:50

Last day of school/college here too and my eldest is 30 so I've been a school gate mum for 25 years 😲
So excited for their futures now!

mondaytosunday · 23/06/2023 09:56

Good luck all. Daughter finished hers ten days ago and has been catching up with sleep since then! We also did a uni open day and her A level art show. Today the girls are taking their history teacher out to lunch - this is a woman who I thought a real dragon lady to begin with, saying to her class 'if you didn't get an 8 or 9 at GCSE I don't know why you are here'. Had a couple girls in tears in the first week and a couple did switch to another course. But my daughter has come to respect her teaching even though the course was 60% of her workload most of the time (and she also did art and is going for a creative degree). She's also going to get 'Most improved' for history prize so her hard work has been noted!
Roll on August 17!

Good luck to all the amazing dc finishing exams today - completely understand how emotional it is for them, and for us. DD should just about have finished chemistry now (they never seem to start on time at her school!) and I've warned her that the euphoria might not come straight away. I remember feeling a real sense of anti-climax at the end of my A levels. She needs an A in chemistry, but it's her favourite subject, and one she was predicted an A * in, so I'll know she'll be disappointed with anything less. She's going to a friend's house for drinks and lunch and probably going to sleep for the rest of the day after that. She's our youngest dc, so there is a real 'end of school era' feeling in our house today.

kackle · 23/06/2023 11:49

RS went well today.

That’s school finished now. Strange feeling as shes been there from pre school to sixth form.

I hope all the dc have a lovely summer chilling out and results day is kind to them all.

ono40 · 23/06/2023 11:57

Hello all! Marking my place on the new thread. Good luck to all those doing Chemistry or FM today. DS has gone on holiday today with DS1 and DH - I am dog sitting our elderly pooch😢(secretly enjoying being home alone)

SerenadeOfTheSchoolRun · 23/06/2023 12:25

All done for DS with Edexcel Chemistry this morning. His longest exam at 2 1/2 hours. He said it went fine and that the paper was ok. Off the the pub with his mates this afternoon. Thinking of the further maths people with another exam today and anyone with something early next week - Good luck all.

Lots of summer plans for DS to distract him from the long wait to 17th August.

PacificState · 23/06/2023 12:56

@ono40 being left alone at home with the dog for the week would be absolute heaven for me. Enjoy!

Travelban · 23/06/2023 13:06

Dd1 home and finished. Currently checking in for her flight on Sunday and then hopefully tackling her room as well as packing.

It does all feel like a huge anti climax , so weird... !!

BellsaRinging · 23/06/2023 13:17

Gosh it's a long slog. DS still hasn't finished. His last exam is Monday...and it seems like he's the only one! It will be such a relief to have him home and chilled out. Also, to be frank, to have his pit of a room de skanked!

@ono40 being left alone at home with the dog for the week would be absolute heaven for me. Enjoy!

Apart from having to persuade the dog to go outside every couple of hours and get up early to let him out, it is bliss!

Cantonet · 23/06/2023 13:22

@ono40 I'm another dog-sitting our rather sick elderly dog. For 3 weeks by myself. Dh has the 4 of them. I will join for the last two weeks 😀 of their 5 weeker. It will be the Last big family holiday as dd1 has just graduated as a vet & will be starting work in September.

ZittiEBuoni · 23/06/2023 13:46

Jumping on to placemark.

I invigilated AQA Chemistry this morning, wasn't able to ask any of the dc I knew how it went as I had to stay with the extra time students - but nobody was crying...

Dd is preparing to fly out to Portugal tomorrow, just off to the post office for some euros. I'm going to be like a cat on hot bricks until she comes back but sure she'll have a great time with her 7 friends.

Hang in the BR we are all behind you...

DD shipped off to work today for a trial shift, hopefully she will learn a lot.
I'm cleaning and attending to all those jobs I couldn't do over exams...

PacificState · 23/06/2023 13:57

So envious of all the peaceful dog sitters.

Anyone else feel like they've dropped about 50 IQ points over the last eight weeks? I swear I've lost the ability to interpret simple information - I've misread appointment times/turned up hours early or late about ten times in the last fortnight, and this week must count as the most useless, sloppy week of work I've ever done.

I feel like I need two weeks on a desert island. By myself.

Can I join you?
(on the other side of the island of course...
we could meet up every other day for a barbeque and/or no cook tropical fruit feast....I will bring the staff...

Jumping on to placemark as well. DD finished on Tuesday. Despite some quite dark moments in the lead-up, once she got started, her mood really seemed to improve. Exams seem to have gone well, and I really hope that means she's got the results she needs (and deserves). Her offers were all the same grades, so it's either in or clearing (or kind Unis who may let her results slip?). She's super excited for Uni, and looking forward to a summer of adventure. We're off as a family soon for 3 weeks travelling, hoping that will be fun too!

Forestfriendlygarden · 23/06/2023 15:02

DD back from trial shift on job. Went well. Really pleased. Hours fairly flexible so she will still get breaks and see friends. A relief.

AfingeroffudgeisNOTenough · 23/06/2023 15:11

Well I’m glad to say that DD finished on a high. Came out of her RS exam absolutely buzzing - loved the questions and sat on the way home in the car explaining to me why they were such good questions and why the synoptic question at the end was a particularly great one! Have been for a celebratory lunch at the garden centre - scones and cake all round - and now she’s searching for a poncho or rain mac to take with her to the gig tonight - the weather does not look like it’s going to be kind!

Such a relief that it’s all over. I think we’ll take the younger siblings out for dinner tonight - feels like it‘s been a long hard slog for the whole family! One more week of term for them but as of today I am declaring no more studying for anyone!

Nugg · 23/06/2023 16:01

And it's a wrap!

Further maths was ok.

Now the wait begins! Was today the last day for everyone?

KittyMcKitty · 23/06/2023 16:41

Well all 2 and a half hours of Edexcel Chemistry is done - dd said it was fine. She’s just glad it’s all over.

she’s off to a party tomorrow but intends to do absolutely nothing until then she’s exhausted.

iamnotanalcoholic70 · 23/06/2023 17:29

DS finished Monday so spent Tuesday gaming! He applied for medicine but has no firm offers. He's on the waiting list for Cardiff and we have to phone them if he gets at least AAA. If they don't have a place, then we'll try clearing. If that fails he's taking a year out and trying again. He's in a better position than DD was 2 years ago. Her school awarded her AAB on results day, so she had to go through clearing and couldn't take a year out and try again for medicine. 10 days later WJEC awarded her AAA as the appeals process had concluded. She was shafted and is doing a degree she doesn't want to do before getting into medicine.

Thethingswedoforlove · 23/06/2023 18:10

I can stop loitering and now join! Dd finished today. Yay!

Thethingswedoforlove · 23/06/2023 18:32

@iamnotanalcoholic70 navigating two through the medicine application process is extremely impressive. Well done for getting this far and all best for your ds.

Outnumberedbytwo · 23/06/2023 18:33

Dd had chemistry EdExcel today too, had a very brief text from her to say she’d survived and that it was better than papers 1 and 2. She has yet to return home, so suspect she’s either in a park or a pub with her friends. Lie in tomorrow then back to her sports training which she loves but has been neglected since Easter, thanks to exams.
