Following on from the A level support thread I thought I would create one for results day.
Hopefully you will all join me for the long nail biting wait and the big day at the end of it!

I love Edinburgh myself but we are right down other end of country so I feel I couldn't be there for her if she needed me.

Still no doubt things will change again...hold on to your hats.

KittyMcKitty · 09/07/2023 15:18

Sorry put a ! when meant a ? Re Linguistics or Psychology.

if she wants to consider York / Cardiff and anywhere else she initially applied to in clearing they will be new applications as she rejected their initial offers when firming / insuring.

Forestfriendlygarden · 09/07/2023 15:32

Any A star she says out of three subjects she needs
English Lit, Biology and Psychology.

To study Psychology and Linguistics.

DS is back from his leavers holiday. Tired but had a great time. I can breathe a sigh of relief now.

Published today: https://ofqual.blog.gov.uk/2023/07/10/exam-results-2023-10-things-to-know-about-gcse-as-and-a-level-grades/

I have the utmost respect for all Examiners doing this job through the summer months, but especially so for those who have to decipher my DS's hand-writing

Thanks lastdayatschool

we have the same issue with DD's handwriting. Will read this

Yes as far as I remember

Edinburgh (too far and bloody freezing...)
Cardiff
York I think
Somewhere else can't remember...

As someone said they may change their minds...

She will have insured just one of these and declined the others. They are only allowed to firm one offer (oxbridge) and insure another despite having 5 offers. This has to be done in June so she will have chosen her insurance alongside her firm.
If she doesn’t get the grades for her firm but gets them for her insurance it’ll automatically be processed albeit she can decline that insurance and then go through clearing.

Yes, that's right - I remember all that, I was there! Endless discussions before a decision it became so boring!
Seems a long time ago now though and we are at a different stage of the process.

37 days people or have i lost count?

lastdayatschool · 10/07/2023 23:02

Mine finally got around to submitting his accommodation preferences for Exeter tonight. So laid back about it all

Great. No doubt things will change and they will have a major freak out at some stage.

No one on the planet is 'chilled out' all the time...

37 is right, @Forestfriendlygarden

Countdown to A level results day - 2023
NotDonna · 11/07/2023 06:22

@Forestfriendlygarden ahh ok, I thought you were thinking she still had all 5 options.

No, thanks though for thinking that. i've still got bits missing in terms of the process and countdown to results day, mainly actually because I'm dealing with my mum's death and aftermath of probate and it is quite hard doing all this because I keep thinking and wishing she were still here to be glad that DD and I have got this far.

But maybe she is around somewhere.

Glad it is 37 days onwards and upwards people...

NotDonna · 11/07/2023 10:17

So sorry to hear about your mum @Forestfriendlygarden Im sure she’d be incredibly proud of you both 💐

ZittiEBuoni · 11/07/2023 10:27

Sorry about your mum, @Forestfriendlygarden , I was all over the place when my mum died and I had to deal with probate but I suppose I was 'lucky' in that neither of my dc were at a critical stage in their education at that time. It's hard to keep all the balls in the air at the best of times Flowers.

We're back from our big London weekend and dd is 18! She was out till after midnight singing karaoke last night with her friends, so the mopes are in gradual decline, I hope. Off to get a tattoo this afternoon!

Thanks Zed. Yes, all over the place is apt description. Probate was filed last Monday so there is a bit of closure at least.

Congrats to your DD for 18th.

It's fast paced with them isn't it? I dont' want to wish the time away with the countdown and everything, but it is really weird, just wanting results day to be over already.

Thanks for that. Yes, she would have been you are right.

Forestfriendlygarden · 11/07/2023 16:17

37 days until results day and
12 days until DD goes to Spain.

Hopefully a bit of a break for me!

Forestfriendlygarden · 13/07/2023 06:54

35 sleeps to go. How is everyone?

DD working hard yesterday at online course. I think from the look on her face she is finding it a challenge. Which I know she needs now and then but she also looks tired and going to work today. I hope Spain is a break for her and she flies a week Sunday.

tribpot · 13/07/2023 07:29

Five weeks .. it feels like the time is slipping away a bit doesn't it? DS is getting a bit bored, I think, but has some work experience coming up soon.

lastdayatschool · 13/07/2023 08:27

Trying hard not to wish the next 5 weeks away - aside from the variable distinctly non-summery weather here in NI, I would like this summer to go on forever

Forestfriendlygarden · 13/07/2023 08:36

Me too. It makes me happy to think I've somehow managed to scrape together the money for DD to go to language course in Spain. I just heard from the family she will be staying with. The daughter is a make up artist and works in the fabulous aquarium in Valencia where there are lots of different kinds of turtles. So something completely different.

SB1971 · 13/07/2023 09:11

Gosh 5 weeks is no time! Seems mad that my DD has been done for almost a month now!

kackle · 13/07/2023 10:03

34 sleeps

I keep torturing myself withe look on dd face if she doesnt make the grades.

She has been through unofficial mark schemes on TSR and is convinced she has done well but biology is such a mean mark scheme that I am worried about her getting the grade B she needs.

In other news, our request for special consideration has been accepted by the exam board. I keep praying its enough to help push her into the next grade boundary if needed
