Birmingham rejection for my DS this morning incase any others waiting for Birmingham.
DS disappointed but felt it was his worst interview. Still waiting on Leeds and Manchester , not expected to hear until end of April apparently.
Congratulations to all those with positive news 😊

Thank you @opoponax.

Sorry to hear about the Birmingham outcome, @Hopeful646, but it sounds like he still has other options. And we must keep reminding ourselves that they only need one!!Smile

Thank you for new thread. So good to see the offers coming in. Lovely friend of DD just got an offer from Exeter - it’s not been a straightforward couple of years for her so that was very happy news. DD withdrew from the two she was waiting for because she had 2 she was happy with. The waiting to hear is such a stressful part of the journey- particularly as you don’t get a set date.
Slightly unrelated note but does anyone have experience with kids applying for veterinary and wouldn’t mind pointing me at good websites or resources?

@Cathpot great that your DD has finalised her choices and lovely that her friend has had good news too. @Mumsneedwine is your person for vet med. She has a vet med DD.

Thank you for the welcome @opoponax

@Hopeful646 sorry to hear about your DS's Birmingham rejection. We are waiting on that one too. I am nervous about picking up DS after school just incase he's had similar news. I hope your DS gets an offer elsewhere.

Newcastle offer for DD this morning. Finally! Rejected from Bristol last week but that was expected as there were technical issues for the whole interview (their end). Still waiting on UEA and Southampton.

Congrats to all those DC with new offers and fingers crossed to everyone else.

Still waiting on HYMS but .......she has an offer for Newcastle.
That was her first choice and she came out buzzing from that interview.
Really pleased as my sister lives there so easy for us to visit ( and food parcels!) .
Sorry for the rejections esp @Monkey2001 DS as they both applied for similar places both years.
Good luck to all waiting .

Thank you for the new thread @opoponax

Feels like there’s news and updates flying in at the moment. Congrats on the offers and commiserations on the rejections.

DD has offers for BSMS and Exeter, hasn’t heard anything from UEA and prefers the other two anyway so is thinking about withdrawing from there and firming BSMS with Exeter as insurance. She’s in the middle of mocks at the moment so I doubt if she’ll action those thoughts til they’re done.

Keeping my fingers crossed for all our DC.

@mumsneedwine - yes please. It’s for a pupil in my tutor group. I need to go and do some research on vet applications and I was just looking for a heads up for good places to start. This student is only year 11 and has some work experience already but I would like to be able chat to her about it feeling a bit more informed. I know with DD things she was doing by year 10/11 made it into her personal statement and wondered if vet applications benefit from the same sort of run up.

mumsneedwine · 14/03/2023 19:22

@Cathpot vets need work experience, quite a lot of it. Pre covid it was up to 5 weeks, including both husbandry and vet practice. Now the Notts MOOC counts for a week and need at least another 3. However it's better to have as varied stuff as possible as when you apply you have a form (or 2/3) to complete for each Uni (RVC and Aber need to be in by Oct 15th and they won't tell you that). And interviews will expect good knowledge of the profession and current issues. Bristol don't interview and their form is looooonnnng.
There are only 11 Unis that offer Vet Med so research is not too time consuming. A levels in Bio, Chem and then anything else.
You don't need to have done lambing or cows !
Anything else just shout.
