@opoponax my advice will then be v interesting on a Friday night 😂.

We have a few offers so far - got a couple of Oxbridge, Plymouth, Leicester and Bristol. I'm probably already up to a v bad hangover 😂

opoponax · 01/02/2023 19:29

We look forward to your Friday night advice @mumsneedwine 😂.Good to hear that your brood have got some offers already. We are expecting a bit of a wait given what DD's choices have said about their timeframes but she is just grateful to have the interviews out of the way.

Congratulations on the offers.
@mumsneedwine enjoy the Gin/Wine you certainly deserve it.
Interviews now complete for DD - just the waiting game now. The last 2 she didn't feel too confident about - time will tell.
On a positive note we went walking in Snowdon over the weekend - met a lovely group of Kayakers from a Uni - which put DD at ease about different clubs she can join.
The wait is a killer!

mumsneedwine · 01/02/2023 21:31

@coffeeandbiscuittime DD joined wilderness medicine in 1st year and had many a happy weekend pretending to rescue people. Wherever they end up they'll have an awesome time.

Africa2go · 01/02/2023 22:51

@RockyHorrorShow Congrats to your DD

Monkey2001 · 01/02/2023 23:02

Congratulations @RockyHorrorShow , where is Leicester on her ranked list? First offer often moves up the rankings because it is such a relief!

@RockyHorrorShow well done, must be a relief!

medParent · 02/02/2023 10:58

Congratulations @RockyHorrorShow
DD just got UCL invite for interview for end of the month.
So that is 1.5 interview funished and 2.5 scheduled in Feb.
Such a relief already :-)
No offers yet. However apart from Leicester, she has not finished any interviews yet and her Leicester interview was beginning of Jan.

medParent · 02/02/2023 10:59

*finished

BungledBundle · 02/02/2023 12:16

Well done to the DCs of @Rinkkk , @kackle , @RockyHorrorShow and of course another of @mumsneedwine 's cohort! Fantastic news. Hope everyone gets good news soon.

Just wondering, if DD hasn't heard from Liverpool yet re interview, she probably hasn't got one? It was a bit of a gamble tbh, that one, but DD liked Liverpool.

Monkey2001 · 02/02/2023 12:20

@BungledBundle Liverpool cut off currently 2660, I am hoping it goes down to 2640 (for DS's poor friend who missed his offer for Cardiff by 1 mark last year and currently has 3 rejections). What is your DD's UCAT?

BungledBundle · 02/02/2023 12:54

It's below that, @Monkey2001 , thanks, that's good to know. Everything crossed for your DS's friend.

I was checking out the apprenticeship website today.
I am curious about how doctor degree apprenticeship will progress in the near future.The info says it will not start until at least Sept 23. These junior doctors will not graduate with a big debt.

www.instituteforapprenticeships.org/apprenticeship-standards/doctor-degree-v1-0

mumsneedwine · 02/02/2023 15:00

@Cratos no one knows who is going to train these new apprentices. Learning on the job is great but someone needs to teach them. And not sure if government have noticed but there is a slight shortage of doctors, and the current ones are a little busy.

mumsneedwine · 02/02/2023 15:02

And not enough foundation places already. Unless there is some serious funding this is a complete pipe dream.

NoNotHimTheOtherOne · 02/02/2023 15:15

@Cratos - No universities have agreed to deliver the adacemic component of medicine apprenticeships in 2023. I think it's going to take a while to get these set up as there are lots of details that aren't clear yet. Although there are plenty of degree apprenticeships in place for nursing and allied health professions, where the majority of learning can take place in the workplace, the nature of medicine degrees will need to change considerably to allow this. Given that we'll have a national medical licensing assessment (MLA) coming onstream within the next 2 years, setting up apprenticeships will be very challenging as the graduates will have to be equally prepared to pass this exam.
It really needs medicine degrees to be redesigned so that students gain full GMC registration on graduation (to remove the F1 bottleneck) and there are stricter - but narrower - definitions of what knowledge & skills students need to have demonstrated before they reach MLA/graduation level and what they have to acquire during foundation/core postgraduate training. At present, the required degree content is far too much - and too academically oriented - to be covered in an apprenticeship.

AsdaYellowTins · 05/02/2023 11:07

DC has just been offered and interview at Southampton, 2830 UCAT. Very happy to have 3 interviews, rejected from Cardiff, interviews for the rest.

IGoWalkingAfterMidnight · 05/02/2023 11:10

Congratulations to all those that have received offers - very well done 👏

IGoWalkingAfterMidnight · 05/02/2023 11:11

And received interviews! DS has had two interviews, one rejection based on UKAT from Plymouth and waiting to hear still from one.

Cratos · 06/02/2023 10:38

@NoNotHimTheOtherOne
@mumsneedwine

Thank you so much for sharing your insight about the apprenticeship. Very much appreciated.

wijjjy · 06/02/2023 11:21

Any information about strikes and interviews? Any gone ahead/cancelled? What was the notice?

My daughter has an interview (in person) at UCL on one of days just announced later in February.

A 500 mile round trip cancelled at the last minute is not great (and £££££ wasted). It's not going to encourage her to go if she gets any other offers).

opoponax · 06/02/2023 11:28

@wijjy your DD could contact admissions at UCL and check if her interview will go ahead, explaining the travel and costs involved. In our general experience, the admissions teams will clarify when they can. Someone on TSR last week was saying that their Bristol interview had to be rescheduled due to the strikes.
