@petitebleu - so sorry to hear about your DS. I hope that some time out over Christmas may help to give him some space and time to think about his next steps.

Jeremy Vine covered the marking strike on his radio 2 show today, if you can find it on BBC Sounds it's at point 1.38.00 to end of the show.

Malbecfan · 22/06/2023 21:28

@Ironoaks that's brilliant news. @ofteninaspin well done to DS. I hope you enjoy the day. We loved it - hoping it is even better if and when DD gets there for the 2nd time.

Hang on in there everyone else. Although not at O/C, DD2 is a 3rd year awaiting results. She was told that her exams would be marked and she needs a set number of marks to progress onto her Masters. I just want to know what's going on so I can start to think about retiring from teaching. Looking as though I have a couple more years to go 😢

ofteninaspin · 22/06/2023 21:48

Thanks for the tip @HewasH20!

ofteninaspin · 22/06/2023 21:53

Thanks @Malbecfan. I hope you have a lovely weekend with your family together again.

Well done to your DS @Ironoaks. Great news.

Catsrcool69 · 23/06/2023 08:21

So, some more positive news. DD's subject have been told their papers have been marked as usual. This is a massive relief as I really did not see how they could go back and mark them months later. But, the final classification won't be available until the examiners are able to sign off on the Class Lists - which I take to mean some form of benchmarking or moderation exercise to confirm which class of degree? They do intend to issue Provisional marks within the next few weeks. It is not clear what those will look like. I'm hoping they will be based on the marked papers but without the benchmarking, but I guess they may well not be?

Anyone else heard anything?

Ironoaks · 23/06/2023 08:45

@Catsrcool69 that sounds like what DS received on Wednesday. He had an email explaining the provisional aspect and the arrangements for progression to Part III for those interested. On the university portal he can see an overall mark out of 100 and degree classification at the top, then a list of scaled marks for each paper / component (but no ranking yet).

Catsrcool69 · 23/06/2023 11:04

@Ironoaks thanks, that makes it a bit clearer. Fingers crossed DD gets something similar when they release her Provisional results. It's such a shame their time at Uni is ending with such stress!

ofteninaspin · 24/06/2023 10:08

That is very good news @Catsrcool69.

DS has previously suggested that his results are due on Monday. As we have heard nothing to the contrary from DS or his college, we are continuing to plan for graduation on Friday.

Cliff1975 · 24/06/2023 15:17

Well he has only gone and passed. After all that stress and heartache he has achieved a 2.2 which he and we are over the moon with. Off to take him out to diner to celebrate.

DahliaMacNamara · 24/06/2023 15:35

I'm so pleased for you and your DS, Cliff. A satisfying conclusion to a long and difficult journey.

Ironoaks · 24/06/2023 16:17

@Cliff1975 that's great news, you must be so proud and relieved

JulesJules · 24/06/2023 16:26

@Cliff1975 that's such great news, well done him

CinnamonJellyBeans · 24/06/2023 17:03

@Cliff1975 That is wonderful! Well done to your son. He's a real trooper.

HewasH20 · 24/06/2023 17:04

@Cliff1975 that news has made my day. I'm delighted for your DS

mutterphore · 24/06/2023 17:09

@Cliff1975 congratulations to your DS! Well done him!

@Catsrcool69 this sounds like better news for your DD.

@Ironoaks well done to your DS too.

No further good news here for DS1 (C) and looking like no marking done at all for his subject - English but is going ahead with the fake 'graduation' on 1st July.

In better news here, I picked up DS2 (O) yesterday and he's home. It's so lovely to have him back and he's clearly enjoyed his time at Oxford but ready for the next step too. He should have his marks and degree grade before his graduation later in the summer.

MiniJellyBeans · 24/06/2023 17:12

@Cliff1975 Brilliant news! Many congratulations to your DS.

@mutterphore I am aware you asked me a question a few days ago about the situation re.lack of double marking of exams at Oxford. Managed to get an answer from DD1 about this in the midst of her hectic schedule of balls/partying - she says in general STEM subjects are unaffected, but humanities will not be double marked (although also says each department is handling things slightly differently). She did geography.

HewasH20 · 24/06/2023 17:14

The end of an era for you @mutterphore.

beeswain · 24/06/2023 17:28

Very many congratulations to your ds@Cliff1975 a great achievement. His perseverance and your unwavering support have won the day.
DS came home from his mini holiday yesterday and he's packed and off to London for his internship today. I'm glad for the long Oxford holiday as we will see him for a few weeks at least before the 4th year.

pantjog · 24/06/2023 17:47

Lovely news @Cliff1975 . Well done your DS!

mutterphore · 24/06/2023 18:14

@MiniJellyBeans thanks for letting me know. So it looks like DS2 (O) History degree won't be double marked. Hope this won't adversely affect the outcome.

@HewasH20 it does indeed feel like the end of an era! DS1 (C) is still in college until the day after his fake graduation. So until they're both home, it won't quite feel like the end of one chapter and the start of the next. In fact, until DS1 actually gets a degree at all, it'll all feel unfinished....if he indeed ever gets a proper degree.

@beeswain good luck to your DS with his internship. Hope he enjoys it and it goes very well.

goodbyestranger · 24/06/2023 18:24

Incredibly well done to Cliff1975's DS. Have a wonderful dinner!

Catsrcool69 · 24/06/2023 18:40

@Cliff1975 brilliant news about your DS. I lurked on this thread before being prompted to break cover and post because of the MAB and recall the challenges you recounted.

@mutterphore sorry to hear there is no sign of anything being marked for DS1. Has his faculty communicated anything about it? You are right, it is all going to feel quite unfinished until they all actually get their degrees. It's definitely taking the edge of what would normally be such an exciting time.

HoneyMobster · 24/06/2023 19:57

So pleased to hear about your DS @@Cliff1975 - wonderful news. You should be very proud of him.

Picked up DD today from Oxford. Smart girl has boxed quite a lot of stuff up to leave for the summer. She's had a great first year and is really happy. Exams seem to have gone well and she's made lovely friends.

She's in a show over the summer so will go back to Oxford to rehearse and then come on holiday with us for a week. She's coming to watch DS2 race this week with me, thankfully she hasn't asked for a new dress but I think she'll enjoy the flowing Pimms.

DS starts his internship on Monday. Could do with a haircut though.

ofteninaspin · 24/06/2023 21:28

That’s fantastic news @Cliff1975 . A very well deserved celebratory dinner.

Juja · 24/06/2023 22:36

Lovely to hear all the news and positive outcomes for finalists…. Congratulations all round especially for all those with marks uncertainty.

Just arrived home after a 8hr v slow journey north with car rammed to the gunnels after end of 2nd year. He’d even done almost all of the cleaning of the flat before I arrived. Then taken to have coffee with the girlfriend’s parents …
DS now has a little down time before 7 weeks field work for his dissertation.

All a relief after a somewhat shaky 1st year. It’s all a learning experience….. for parents and children!
