@fudgeroo that's great to hear. Does your DC love it? And I'm still hazy about the college system - do they all have geography together in one main department but live in the college? Or are some classes within the college?

They all have lectures together but one on one (actually usually one on two) supervisions in their colleges when they submit essays and discuss in depth

fudgeroo · 10/11/2022 18:19

Yes, for Geography, the lectures (which seem to happen most afternoons) are all on the Downing Site which is very near to CC. They have tutorials in other colleges, depending on where the person taking the tutorial is based. So the college is where they sleep and eat (mainly). CC is one if the smaller colleges and very central, but still on a quite quiet street. It's lovely.

madcattersteaparty · 10/11/2022 20:10

Thank you everyone for all your good wishes. He's excited for it! And his school is delighted for him, and helping him to prepare. Thanks also for the explanation about how the colleges work!

Karwomannghia · 10/11/2022 20:59

My ds has one too! He also didn’t have any of the pre tests either.
just came and told us! He has an assessment on 25th Nov and interview on 5th December (2 days after his 18th!)

Riverpebble · 10/11/2022 22:10

Excellent news 😀

New to the thread, but my DS has recieved an invitation to a zoom interview at Cambridge in December!

Oh how exciting! Fabulous news! Smile

Swissnotswiss · 11/11/2022 06:11

Excellent madcatter!

juicy0 · 11/11/2022 07:23

More lovely news to wake up to, well done to your DS @Karwomannghia
Which course/college?

DTJ · 11/11/2022 07:39

DD received on offer from St Andrew's for English yesterday. Not as exciting as a call to interview but as it's her 2nd or 3rd choice very nice to have in the bag if Oxford doesn't happen. She's just waiting on Durham now, which I think will be a late one?

Karwomannghia · 11/11/2022 07:41

Thanks juicy! It’s linguistics at selwyn college. Not one of the major competitive ones but so excited/nervous for him!

OnePlusOneEquals · 11/11/2022 08:27

Good to hear all these invites to interviews starting to come in! Fingers crossed for you all, we’ve still got at least two and a half weeks before we hear if DS has been successful or not.

juicy0 · 11/11/2022 08:34

I agree, hearing that the wheels are in motion is reassuring!
Congrats @DTJ on the St A offer

beachcitygirl · 11/11/2022 08:59

@DTJ woohoo! My dd is applying there for joint hons film &'English. So hopefully this means she should hear soon 🤞🏻 we're in scotland so if there is an offer it should be unconditional

HoneyMobster · 11/11/2022 09:51

DS has an offer at Princeton 😊

beachcitygirl · 11/11/2022 09:54

@HoneyMobster 🎉

goodbyestranger · 11/11/2022 10:02

Excellent news HoneyMobster! Will he bother with the Oxford application now? Congrats to DS!

HoneyMobster · 11/11/2022 10:18

He's in the system now so if he were offered an interview at Oxford I'm sure he'd do it. I'm not sure his heart is in it though. He's seen DS1 and DD at Oxford and thinks Princeton is what he'd prefer.

Juja · 11/11/2022 10:36

@HoneyMobster congratulations on the Princeton offer - a beautiful campus... my great great great grandfather was sent down from Princeton for duelling in the early 1800s.

Well done to all others with interviews and offers - exciting times but to those who haven't heard hold on in there as they all arrive at different times.

goodbyestranger · 11/11/2022 10:44

Yes I guess doing the interview is a might as well thing, even if he's set on Princeton. Presumably the Princeton place comes with all expenses met so that's got to be a bit of a pull anyhow surely?

goodbyestranger · 11/11/2022 10:45

Presumably he was sent down for killing his opponent rather duelling per se?

goodbyestranger · 11/11/2022 10:49

I guess he was lucky just to have been sent down though.

Riverpebble · 11/11/2022 10:54

Congrats on the offers. We're waiting for St Andrews too.

ACJane · 11/11/2022 11:26

@DTJ amazingly early on the St A offer - congrats to your dd!

Is it contextual or international as they tend to come earlier?
If neither, let's hope it is a sign that St A are going to get offers out a bit earlier this year (possibly wishful thinking!)

DTJ · 11/11/2022 13:35

@ACJane Neither. We are in England and no contextual flags. DD is at a non-selective state 6th form but don't think she ticks any other boxes. I had warned her that it would be a later decision so very shocked (but pleased) to get it already. Really hope it means they're quicker for everyone.

ACJane · 11/11/2022 13:40

@DTJ how fantastic!
Dc here is very keen on St A and would be delighted to get an offer but is expecting to have to wait for a decision...let's see.
