A new, friendly thread.

Thank goodness!

HewasH20 · 02/11/2022 22:10

Just in case Wildehorses migrates here before seeing my post:

Wildehorses DD is taught by someone who champions that niche degree. I have the greatest admiration for anyone whose brain works in such a way to actively want to study advanced logic after logic. The fresher's reading list for phil actually tells them that they should try to read a few chapters of the Logic Manual before they start but the almost certainly won't understand any of it.

HewasH20 · 02/11/2022 22:12

(Although is it possible for MN HQ to move this to Higher Ed before you get a flurry of people asking for advice on which prep school your DC went to to give them the best chance of applying to Oxbridge?)

I'll ask

Same as HewasH20: Wildehorses two of my DC have a friend each who read Physics and Philosophy, both were off the scale in terms of intelligence.

DD4 has dabbled in logic for her Classics Mods but I'm not sure how much further she'd have liked to push it....

Wildehorses · 02/11/2022 22:31

I just replied to your very kind posts in the other thread 🙏🏻 which we will speak about no more 🤣

Azure · 02/11/2022 22:39

Checking in to new thread, thank-you. DS said CAT today wasn't his best but wasn't his worst. Am relieved another stage is completed, whatever the result. His friends found MAT pretty tough.

princesdando · 02/11/2022 22:49

@HewasH20 thanks for the response on the PPE interview on the other thread.

Karwomannghia · 02/11/2022 22:49

Sounds like the exam today was harder than before!

Letitgoagain · 02/11/2022 22:58

Apparently DS's friends said the same too- MAT paper this year was pretty hard.

PettsWoodParadise · 02/11/2022 22:58

Thanks for starting the new thread.

DD submitted her essay pieces today. 24 hours before deadline but for her that is cutting it fine, she is usually a plan ahead type of girl but needed to wait to return to school after half term. Next step…find out if she is invited for an interview.

good luck all!

ForeverbyJudyBlume · 02/11/2022 23:07

Glad to have moved threads. Dad said ELAT today was ok but not her best effort. What can you do? She’s got offers for other great places, I’m proud if it all ends here. Do we hear about interviews at the end of the month? Good luck to all

beachcitygirl · 02/11/2022 23:07

THank you so much for this nice new thread. Dd sending her two essays into Cambridge first thing tomorrow. 🥰

multivac · 03/11/2022 00:35

Thanks for the new thread x

AintNoPartyLikeANumber10Party · 03/11/2022 00:48

De-lurking to say thanks for new thread. And it’s comforting to hear my DC was not alone in finding today’s MAT unexpectedly tough.
solidarity with all you other supportive mums - we rock!

opoponax · 03/11/2022 01:37

Just de-lurking here this evening as DD's BF sat the MAT today. He is extremely bright but thought today was quite tough. Glad he wasn't alone. Gosh, can't believe the turn that previous thread took. Our medicine thread is so friendly and supportive. Not what you all need on a test day especially. Wishing all your DC all the best.

OxbridgeHopeful · 03/11/2022 01:52

MAT feedback here was "ok but could have been better". Consistent with it being a tough paper if I read between the lines!

HoneyMobster · 03/11/2022 05:49

Thanks for the new thread 😊

HoneyMobster · 03/11/2022 05:49

Thanks for the new thread 😊

You're welcome. I was disappointed by the way the other one went Confused

Ds reports that the TSA was 'as expected', whatever that means!

Firefox1066 · 03/11/2022 07:14

Thanks for the new thread! DS was a bit despondent yesterday given how hard he found the admissions test yesterday but perked up when I told him how proud I was of him for putting in the hard work and trying his absolute best. He’s now putting his efforts into getting his two pieces of written work together to submit and then we will see if he is lucky enough to be called for interview.

Good luck to all DC’s and Mums over the
next few weeks as we all anxiously wait for news!

DeliberatelyObtuse · 03/11/2022 07:18

Thanks for the new thread Smile

Our approach has been similar to pp. DS has amazing predicted grades so he wanted to give it a go. Nothing ventured, nothing gained and all that.

balzamico · 03/11/2022 07:38

Dd similar to @DeliberatelyObtuse and others, feels she should give it a try so she doesn't wonder "what if" but not at all sure it's for her ultimately.
HAT yesterday went ok, gave it her best shot, happy with what she did and so feels it will be an accurate measure of whether she's Oxford material or not.
