A new, friendly thread.

Thank you for your responses @OnePlusOneEquals @Riverpebble that's the line we have taken too but it's reassuring to hear that we're not the only ones. We are encouraging DS to attend offer holder days at his second and third choices as he hasn't previously visited one of them.
We are incredibly proud of him for embarking on the application process and have tried to remain lighthearted throughout, there will be hugs a plenty whatever the outcome and either way we will do our best to support him to make the best alternative choice.

DS has a fantastic offer from Warwick and so we are a little fortunate that Oxford would really be the icing on the cake.

Having said that, I know he’ll be very disappointed if it’s a rejection next week.

Karwomannghia · 03/01/2023 19:02

Yes DS is in the fortunate position of having an offer from Manchester, which has a course he loves the sound of and has several friends with offers from there. So it’ll soften the blow if there’s a rejection!
good luck everyone!

beachcitygirl · 03/01/2023 20:24

Good luck to all the Oxford mums, not long now! We Cambridge peeps have ages to go yet 😫
Been desperately avoiding talking about it over festive period.
My dd going straight into prelims this week so that's been stressful enough! X

Riverpebble · 03/01/2023 20:47

We have an offer from preferences 3 and 4, I really hope #2 comes up with an offer before the 10th

OP posts:
ACJane · 03/01/2023 20:49

Preferences 1= and 3 have better-suited courses for my dc if I am honest but they haven't got offers for those so it's not going to be a consolation unless they come in.
Hoping that one or both might offer before the C decision day, although not sure it is very likely as they both usually offer late.

23chat · 03/01/2023 21:16

The very best of luck to everyone. I remember this post Xmas wait, but trying not to mention unis - it's ingrained in my memory! DC did not get in first time, but got in the second time round. Many of them do. Even if the worst happens and they don't get any offers they are that excited about when all is said and done, they can always take a gap year and reapply with a stronger application, extra maturity and hopefully top grades in hand. Just wanted to mention this possibility - as this Oxbridge business does not need to be a one shot only. It's August by the time A-level results are out anyway - only a few months until Jan and then it's an unconditional offer if they are successful. Gap years are not ideal for Maths, but welcomed by other subjects (humanities and social sciences in particular). Hopefully this will not be an issue, but just mentioning gap years as an option!

Durham offer arrived yesterday (MML / MFL) which makes DS feel very fortunate - all 4 offers in now, so we just wait for 25 Jan!

That's fantastic. Congratulations to your DS and you

usedtobeboss3 · 05/01/2023 09:05

Thank you @princesdando - he's certainly very lucky to be in this position!

ACJane · 05/01/2023 10:50

Well done to him! Early for Durham judging by previous years.

Dc here is waiting for Durham too. Is your ds contextual or not?

usedtobeboss3 · 05/01/2023 11:07

No, not contextual at all.

Riverpebble · 05/01/2023 19:08

Excellent news from Durham well done.

I wish st Andrew's would hurry up

Durham offer arrived here too. Surprisingly early.

Cocopogo · 06/01/2023 00:59

@Karwomannghia we also have an offer for Manchester

Azure · 06/01/2023 07:35

Great news on the Durham and recent other offers. I wish Durham would hurry up for DS; he really likes the course there and it would be especially nice to have an offer before Oxford results in 4 days (yikes).

EmmaStone · 06/01/2023 09:15

Waiting on Durham (and Edinburgh) here too. Would be nice to hear from Durham before Tuesday, but seems unlikely - they've messaged saying they're not making offers until all applications are in, so guess that will be next month now (and GOK for Edinburgh - April?!?). Durham is DD's first choice excluding Oxford (in fact I'd say she really wanted Durham from the start and it's only because of the whole long Oxford process that now it's almost in reach she's more interested). Oh well, not much longer now...

multivac · 06/01/2023 09:42

Non-Oxbridge twin is still waiting to hear from Durham and Warwick (economics + year in business); they're his top 2 choices, so we're trying to be patient. Apart from Cambridge, his brother has only yet to hear back from UCL (about which he's really torn - he likes the course - computer science - but would really prefer a campus experience, I think; plus, cost of living....)

balzamico · 06/01/2023 11:35

Dd has offers from Bristol, Manchester and Liverpool. Waiting for Edinburgh and Oxford (😬)
Is excited to go to Bristol so hopefully it's win win whatever Tuesday brings.

DS is also v excited about Bristol if he doesn't get an Oxford place 😊

Scottishsummer · 06/01/2023 12:49

Is there anyone out there waiting for an Oxford decision with NO other offers yet? 😱

Aurea · 06/01/2023 12:51

Yes!

Although for comp sci Cambridge.

Three other options are Scottish (notoriously late) and one spot still undecided.

I'm starting to feel the stress......

Scottishsummer · 06/01/2023 13:22

Solidarity! And you have a longer wait. Courage to us all…

dishpatchnow · 06/01/2023 15:10

Yes! Only submitted other applications on Boxing Day though....

beachcitygirl · 06/01/2023 16:53

Only waiting for Cambridge.
Got unconditionals for

St Andrews
Glasgow
Edinburgh

So all done here. Still
Nerve wracking waiting until 25th
