Liverpool interview offers have in previous years been released in early January with interviews until mid February?

WhiteCarnation · 16/11/2022 15:16

I think Exeter weighs the GCSE grades quite heavily. So that may explain the difference in UCAT scores.

BungledBundle · 16/11/2022 15:36

DD has been contacted by one of her unis asking if she has a criminal record as apparently she ticked that box on her UCAS form <head desk>. I thought she should email UCAS but can they change that sort of thing now? At least the Admissions person said they were checking as it is often ticked in error but it doesn't look great for attention to detail does it?

worksleeprepeatwork · 16/11/2022 16:05

Dundee interviews out. Apparently coming out in drips and drabs.

No, just need a 4 in English. This year non contextual people needed 3 x A* (predicted or achieved) and UCAT in top 2 deciles.

Contextual - who knows what they are doing!!

italuo · 16/11/2022 16:36

It’s a free for all at Exeter it seems. Assuming their numbers are way down because the fact that they made do few offers last year freaked everyone out.

italuo · 16/11/2022 16:36

*so few

mumsneedwine · 16/11/2022 16:39

Still need 3 A star predictions and UCAT seems about 2660, so not too much of a change. It's hard to compare as they used to give preference to achieved grades. Contextual seems to be 2 A stars, and A and a UCAT if 2,600. From my v small sample of students !

opoponax · 16/11/2022 16:59

A big difference from two years ago when DC with predicted grades needed 3 A star predictions and 3040 UCAT for Exeter interview!

OP posts:
mumsneedwine · 16/11/2022 17:48

@opoponax but that's because they gave more weight to achieved grades. So the UCAT needed for year 13 had to be much higher.

opoponax · 16/11/2022 17:56

How could they not have seen that coming with the CAGs that year though. It didn't affect DS but I remember the shock waves from it.

Thank you to the lovely people who share all this useful info. I have been following for some time. DD has received an offer for her 5th choice and an interview for Exeter. She is now waiting to hear from Southampton, Cardiff and Anglia Ruskin. She is predicted 3 x A*, got 2830 UCAT and level 1 SJT. Good GCSEs (4 x 9s, 3 x 8s, a 7 and a level 2 distinction btech).

opoponax · 16/11/2022 20:10

Welcome to our thread @AsdaYellowTins. Congratulations to your DD on her Exeter interview and 5th choice offer. Hopefully more good news soon.

@AsdaYellowTins hello and congratulations on the Exeter interview. I am afraid it is unlikely that she will get an interview at Cardiff unless Welsh or contextual, but the others all look good. I hope I am wrong about Cardiff, but you have needed 27 points for GCSEs for the last few years and the current Y13s have the inflated GCSEs, so lots of top grades around - so be prepared for a frustrating wait and eventual disappointment on that one.

AsdaYellowTins · 17/11/2022 06:12

Thank you. We went to the cardiff open day and they advised about the GCSEs. Her school is a small rural school which doesnt run every gcse topic every year, so she got put on a btech with no option of a gcse alternative. We spoke to Cardiff admissions and explained the circumstances, they requested a letter from the school to confirm, and following receipt of the letter, Cardiff have advised they will pro rata up her GCSEs to 9/8 value, so I think that it works out ok.

Monkey2001 · 17/11/2022 10:20

Glad to hear that @AsdaYellowTins , so it just the general Cardiff randomness to worry about! Fingers crossed.

Cratos · 17/11/2022 14:27

We heard from Bristol and my DS s application has been put on hold. His Ucat is just under 3000 with A*AA predicted grades. Perhaps we should ask visibility of supplied predicted grades to Ucas from school.

Cardiff is her preferred uni but its a long way from home!
Hmm maybe that is why she wants to go there 😂
Can you advise what the Cardiff randomness is please?

opoponax · 17/11/2022 14:42

@Cratos I remember this happening with DC being put on hold when DS applied two years ago. It simply meant that someone has looked at their application and it was pending, nothing more than that, nothing negative. They worked through candidates by UCAT score and frequently released batches of interviews.

Africa2go · 17/11/2022 15:12

@Cratos there was a post on TSR this morning from someone who hadn't been invited for interview at Bristol despite having a higher score than those who had been offered and so they contacted admissions and (according to their post on TSR) Bristol had them down as having achieved a lower UCAT score than they actually did. It has apparently been sorted and promised an interview invitation. Might be worth getting in touch just to double check?

opoponax · 17/11/2022 15:25

Just had a look on TSR Bristol thread and there are a number of others on hold with UCATs around 3000-3100 so it doesn't look like anything very odd is going on.

coffeeandbiscuittime · 17/11/2022 15:52

My DD is on hold at 3060 , email just says she meets the requirements but they haven't finalised a decision. I am pretty sure they did this last year.
I presume they have offered all pre Christmas interview slots out and will review after Christmas for interviews in Jan/Feb. Due to interviewers commitments they may not have specified interview dates yet to offer - thus putting on hold. ( only my guess)

Thank you very much. Knowing this is a relief since I didn't interpret it positively.

Very interesting. Thank you for letting me know. We might check that.

That is Edinburgh handing out RUK invites now.
