Rejection from Cambridge today. DD seems ok about it and admitted it was the lure of Cambridge rather than the course itself that made her apply there. Now just waiting to hear from BSMS which is her top choice. Am keeping my fingers tightly crossed!!

Thethingswedoforlove · 28/11/2022 19:44

@justjuggling fingers crossed for bsms too for your dd

GoldieRetrieversRule1 · 28/11/2022 20:30

@justjuggling wishing your DD the best of luck in getting an interview for BSMS!

opoponax · 28/11/2022 20:37

Good news on the interviews coming through. Sorry to hear about the Cambridge one @justjuggling but hope the BSMS one comes through soon.

Has anyone got any insight into flashcard apps please? DD was keen to use one for her interview prep and has signed up to Anki but it seems very complicated for what she wants which is just to store the questions and her notes on answers on flashcards and run through them all herself.

mumsneedwine · 28/11/2022 21:22

@opoponax Kahoot works for this. She can make her own in small sets and run through them.

opoponax · 28/11/2022 21:30

Thanks so much @mumsneedwine. She says Anki looks great for general consolidation and revision but that for this it seems a bit complex.

Congratulations on the Cambridge interviews, sorry to hear your DD did not get one @justjuggling . Re BSMS they give quite a lot of points for section 3 (which Cambridge ignore) so fingers crossed!

A warning to all Cambridge interviewees - try not to be too emotionally caught up in it, they have a terrible offer to interview rate (~25%), so whilst I hope there will be a lot of success on this thread, I know from bitter experience that it can hit like a sledgehammer if they are rejected post interview.

@Africa2go I don't remember where I saw that BMAT entries were down this year, maybe it was in feedback to applicants at one of the BMAT universities.

GoldieRetrieversRule1 · 29/11/2022 10:21

DD got invitation for interview from Oxford. Now fingers crossed, eyes crossed, everything crossed 😀

Thethingswedoforlove · 29/11/2022 10:27

Congrats @GoldieRetrieversRule1 ’s dd. All best for that!

NirvanaMum · 29/11/2022 12:05

@GoldieRetrieversRule1 Well done for your mini Goldie! All the best for her interview!

GoldieRetrieversRule1 · 29/11/2022 12:55

Thank you @Thethingswedoforlove and @NirvanaMum ! Wishing success to your DC!

buckleten · 29/11/2022 14:57

My DD has an interview at Oxford! She's over the moon..

coffeeandbiscuittime · 29/11/2022 15:31

Congratulations to all those getting interviews. It is so hard waiting for them to come through - then doing them- then waiting for offers/ rejections. It's an act of resilience just getting through all this!
DD has 3 lined up just waiting for HYMS.

Thethingswedoforlove · 29/11/2022 15:33

Dd hasn’t heard anything from any of her 4! But as far as I know no one has for any of them so it’s not as bad yet as it will be when the batches begin coming out…

Lottsbiffandsmudge · 29/11/2022 15:37

Well done on all the interviews!

GoldieRetrieversRule1 · 29/11/2022 16:29

The system for getting into medicine in the UK is rather tough: you have to apply to BMAT schools not just without knowing your result but before sitting the exam even. Something should be done about it.
And after that you need to meet the grade requirements from the uni in summer!

I just hope resilience and believing in oneself will help our DC to get through it all successfully.

Lottsbiffandsmudge · 29/11/2022 16:40

Its certainly an endurance waste. BMAT being scrapped soon! Not sure what is happening instead..

MidLifeCrisis007 · 29/11/2022 16:45

Congrats to the DC with Oxbridge interviews. That's a massive achievement....

This is so true. It's like a hurdle race.
We have one interview invite and waiting for the other 3. The other 3 are yet to start the invite process. So it is bit better for now.
It is indeed a very long journey. Even after offers and admission, it is a long learning path compared to other courses.

Peachy2005 · 29/11/2022 17:58

Guys, I’m so stressed already: I’ll be a quivering wreck by the end of this process. Feel bad for the DCs who have to navigate it all AND study AND do interview prep!

Just completed all the travel bookings for Sheffield and Manchester, spent 3 wasted days looking at hotels and reading all the bad reviews :-p It’s a relief to have a few interviews scheduled and any weather/travel/strike complications are out of my control.

Did anyone notice on TSR someone got an auto-reply from Newcastle which had some good info on dates of next batch of interviews? I’ll try to attach it in case anyone is awaiting an offer. Sorry if someone posted it already.

That’s Edinburgh sending out interviews for Scottish students….think I’ll be a wreck by the end of this process 😂

justjuggling · 29/11/2022 21:24

Congratulations @GoldieRetrieversRule1 and @buckleten on Oxford interviews! Wishing your DC lots of luck with them.

Cratos · 30/11/2022 14:26

Congratulations on Oxford interviews. What an amazing achievement 👏

Do you think Sheffield questions are confidential? A friend offered to do a mock interview with my DS but I am not sure if he can share the questions with her.

Monkey2001 · 30/11/2022 14:58

@Cratos nobody would know if he shared with a friend and I am sure the assumption is that you will practice with friends and family. I think they just want to avoid the questions being freely available on line, although I am not sure why when they always share them with the people who would benefit most from seeing them on line.

In case anyone is interested, UEA are doing sessions on interviews, we watched one last night and I thought it was good. It is aimed at any healthcare interview at any university. There is another next week. - www.channeltalent.co.uk/event/he-guidance-preparing-for-medicine-healthcare-university-interviews-with-dr-stephanie-jong-dr-charlie-williams-from-university-of-east-anglia-2/

Cratos · 30/11/2022 23:43

@Monkey2001 thank you very much for your advice. The email doesn't state they are confidential I don't think but I have not checked their website.

I will pass the link you sent to my DS. It sounds very helpful. Thanks for sharing with us.
