Following on from the Oxbridge rejects thread but I've got rid of those two words. I for one am interested to know where they all end up and when Durham might finally deign to reject/offer DS...

Also, could be entirely coincidental, but suspicious this thread was started after DS’ feedback this week. Does that make me an influencer Grin

@Eightytwenty I daren't even look. I can feel a nose bleed coming on.

doubleshotcappuccino · 01/04/2022 03:22

@TangoWhiskyAlphaTango these first cuts are the deepest .. hard to know what to say to them to make them feel better .. @ACloseMatch I'm sorry to hear that and it's hard again to know how to help them process rejection at such a young age when they should be celebrating how much they have achieved .. all process seems too drawn out and too close to the exams

doubleshotcappuccino · 01/04/2022 03:24

@Eightytwenty I saw that ! Started to read it but was a bit confused by some of the posts and it seems to be getting a little testy .. not like this lovely supportive thread !

doubleshotcappuccino · 01/04/2022 03:26

@Xanum that's great LSE have a holders day coming up .. will be Dd's last decision in .. as they have till May 21st it might noses pressed up against the window for now !!

Threads like that always are! Best avoided...

Xanum · 01/04/2022 08:02

May? @doubleshotcappuccino. LSE’s so rude. Well, as I say to DS, no news is good news. Till it was a no. And then he (me) could move on.

Eightytwenty · 01/04/2022 08:10

Agree best avoid bun flights! Meantime pranked DS that Durham had announced that there would be no further offers till 7 May. Told him it was a prank before he’d posted it all over TSR - whew there is enough mania on there as it is.

fishingeagle · 01/04/2022 08:30

@ACloseMatch I'm so sorry to hear that your DD was upset at the UCL/Po rejection. I so hope she hears from the other two with good news really soon - DS still to hear from LSE and Durham.

@Darbs76 fabulous set of offers to have whatever he decides. I guess the only thing the Scottish system might offer him is flexibility maybe to do a language module? I only mention it as DD has a chum who did Maths and then Erasmus in Germany and the banks were practically elbowing each other out of the way in their eagerness to get at him.

@TangoWhiskyAlphaTango your poor DS - hope he's feeling a bit better soon, and feel for you as you navigate that. I wish I had something to offer other than 'plenty more fish' and all that.

@MillicentFaucet what a great day - lovely for you to see that.

Xanum · 01/04/2022 08:51

@fishingeagle & @doubleshotcappuccino radio silence at this point from LSE (and other top tier unis) has to be prob better news than not? Lots of rejections are happening. Makes no sense for them to keep your DCs hanging about…

TangoWhiskyAlphaTango · 01/04/2022 08:56

Thanks folks, DS is gutted. First time I have had to navigate a child with a broken heart and isnt nice, he is a lovely lovely lad too very kind and caring I wish he would toughen up slightly (ie not be a door mat). Not made any better by the knowledge I relocated them last year away from their old school and friendships groups 40 miles away (DD was very up for the move and DS far more reluctant). Of course i feel massively guilty, DS has thrived and really come out of his shell but his exgf was back in our old home town. These things will come to pass as we know but at the moment he doesnt see that Sad poor baby!

Xanum · 01/04/2022 09:50

Sorry Tango. But things will pan out. They always do.

doubleshotcappuccino · 01/04/2022 10:13

@TangoWhiskyAlphaTango that's sounds really tough. Guilt as a mum seems ti come with the territory for all our decisions.

@Xanum yes let's hope! @fishingeagle has kept me amused over the months of waiting with her observations as to what could have been done in the time waiting and why it has taken so long!

MillicentFaucet · 01/04/2022 12:50

@TangoWhiskyAlphaTango

Yay *@MillicentFaucet* another Bath firmer! So glad he liked it and that the offers day was positive, we are off next Saturday for the Politics day. Very much hoping she loves it still as. she has already firmed!!

@Darbs76 Fantastic news!

I hope you have an equally enjoyable day Tango, let me know what you think afterwards. We didn't get to see inside any accommodation but I had a wander around the outside of the buildings & it seemed fine; everything walkable, onsite dentist & doctors etc.
ACloseMatch · 01/04/2022 16:53

I'm afraid it is another no for DD, this time from LSE. "as a consequence of the exceptional standard of the personal statements of other applicants this year".

It actually reads like it was a genuinely tough decision for them. It is very complimentary, but ultimately of course, still a no.

Stockpot · 01/04/2022 16:56

I’m sorry to hear it @ACloseMatch.

Valleyofthedollymix · 01/04/2022 17:23

@ACloseMatch whereas my friend the professor at UCL says they bin the personal statements without looking at them. Gah who knows. I can't remember where your DD is with decisions but I really hope that she's got something she's happy with and her confidence isn't too dented.

A friend has let it be known that she has recognised me on here, which is really ruining this lovely supportive thread for me. Worse she's a lurky mclurkface who never posts (you know who you are).

Just heard of an insanely high Edinburgh history offer (AAA). I think there's going to be carnage at clearing this year.

@Stockpot are you in St A?

OP posts:
Stockpot · 01/04/2022 17:30

I’m on the train headed there! @Valleyofthedollymix

doubleshotcappuccino · 01/04/2022 18:30

@ACloseMatch that's so hard .. at this late stage and to know they were so close. A slow shake of the head to understand why they have to wait so long ..

Eightytwenty · 01/04/2022 18:31

@ACloseMatch 2 in a week is super rough. Big hugs to you both. Hard to be the child but also hard to be the parent in that situation.

@Valleyofthedollymix - I was recognised too. I guess I normally lurk on the whole whereas clearly have been pretty active on this thread. Thought about a name change but instead opted for post deletions. Figured it would be too confusing for you lot!

@Valleyofthedollymix @Stockpot hope you have a great day tomorrow. I am excited -

Will either of you be at any of the following?

0930 intro lecture / 1030 Uni hall / 1130 IR/ 1230 History /230 Macintosh hall

doubleshotcappuccino · 01/04/2022 18:33

@Valleyofthedollymix "lurky mclurkface" is making me chuckle ! Pretty sure I'm easily outable now the amount I've shared but not worried.. We're just supporting lard working DCs so let them grab their popcorn and enjoy

doubleshotcappuccino · 01/04/2022 18:35

@Eightytwenty so glad you didn't name change ! I'm overly invested in everyone's DCs but also trying to keep track of where they are all with offers and what's left .. I need a Tom Cruise style Minority Report screen to keep up so name changes would totally throw me !!

doubleshotcappuccino · 01/04/2022 18:35

Hard working not Lard Working **

Forfar4 · 01/04/2022 18:41

Can I rejoin? I was on the Oxbridge applicants thread (under a different name) - DC didn't get offered a place. Anyway, other offers came through, but confusingly this week DC has been offered a place at St Andrews but not for the course applied for. It is related but a diff UCAS code.

Has this happened to anyone else? We have tried to contact admissions but no reply yet. And will be going to offer holders day tomorrow, but still a bit confused.

Puffalicious · 01/04/2022 18:41

I'm really feeling it for you A Close Match. How upsetting. You know this time next year it'll all be a distant memory and DC will be settled and happy.

All St As attendees, have a great day. It's a great town.

Lurky McLurkface 👅. That's me sticking my tongue outGrin
