Following on from the Oxbridge rejects thread but I've got rid of those two words. I for one am interested to know where they all end up and when Durham might finally deign to reject/offer DS...

Yaay @doubleshotcappuccino I'm so very pleased to hear that!! Huge congratulations to your DD. Maybe we are all inching towards the finishing line of this horrible admissions round.

kitnkaboodle · 29/03/2022 14:48

Oh - I just turned my back for a moment! Brilliant news 🙂

Eightytwenty · 29/03/2022 15:48

Brilliant news @doubleshotcappuccino is Ucl now the favourite? Which course is it?

doubleshotcappuccino · 29/03/2022 16:25

Thank you so much to you all ! The support here is amazing and I am always thankful for it. Offer is three As . Course is Pol & IR BSC xx

ACloseMatch · 29/03/2022 16:38

@kitnkaboodle It's 2 at UCL and one at LSE. She's part of the HSPS at C gang. She was supposed to get her C feedback last week. However the head of sixth form was off with Covid and so she still hasn't had it. If it is as harsh as @Piggywaspushed DS got I'm glad it will eventually be face to face because it must be hard to read and not have a teacher there to talk you through it.

sammyjoanne · 29/03/2022 17:11

My eldest applied for Oxford for 2020 and she got to interview stage. Shes at Lancaster now in second year, and every time shes does well in coursework or tests it just a testament as to how capable she is and how she can excel without Oxford uni, and im very sure that this will be the case for your DC too :)

SayYouDontMind · 29/03/2022 17:15

Congrats double shot! Great news!

Igglepigglesblankie · 29/03/2022 17:39

DS just got his rejection from St Andrews….apparently his application wasn’t strong enough (despite twelve 9s at GCSE and four A* predictions). He is honestly not in the slightest bit fussed as he had more or less decided on Durham or Warwick…and it’s hard to get upset when it feels like a lottery. All in all I think he is glad that he has all his responses and he can now focus on revision. Good luck to those still waiting - I think the uncertainty is the real killer. Remember you only need one good offer!!!

Wordlewobble · 29/03/2022 18:01

I’m in. Still waiting for St Andrews here but given the offer holders open day is this Saturday I am fed up waiting and expecting a rejection.
Looks like Durham will be his fave and unsure about his insurance.
I have nothing to compare this with but think maybe a lot to be said for taking a year out and applying with the grades in hand.

Eightytwenty · 29/03/2022 18:22

@Igglepigglesblankie sorry to hear that. But at least sounds like you have a great option.

@Wordlewobble understand. We were the same with Durham which we are still waiting for despite a number of offers and rejections on TSR. It’s so infuriating. But again great that you have good options.

Stockpot · 29/03/2022 18:30

Wonderful news @doubleshotcappuccino! It sounds like a very good offer, despite the long wait.

Commiserations @Igglepigglesblankie, but with two great offers I’m sure your DS will let it roll off him.

Darbs76 · 29/03/2022 19:27

@doubleshotcappuccino - yay congrats to your son

Darbs76 · 29/03/2022 19:29

Or daughter! Sorry!

TangoWhiskyAlphaTango · 29/03/2022 22:03

@doubleshotcappuccino What bloody marvellous news!!! At last the offers trickle in, we thought the C wait was bad but this must be pure torture 😭 you can celebrate tonight. 💃💃

doubleshotcappuccino · 30/03/2022 05:20

Thank you so much ! I know I'm in good company for knowing how exhausting this whole process is for them and therefore for us as A levels loom too . Xx

doubleshotcappuccino · 30/03/2022 05:23

@Igglepigglesblankie I'm really sorry to hear that when he has such a Sterling set of predicteds. Hurts to see them work so hard and get rejected. @Wordlewobble Durham would be wonderful I'm sure, we wait for that and LSE but I have a feeling the latter will be fashionably late to the offer party.

Igglepigglesblankie · 30/03/2022 07:25

I think it’s been really tough at the “top” universities this year. I have so many friends with older kids who tell me that perfect predictions would have bagged you an offer at everywhere apart from Oxbridge and they are astounded at some of the rejections and how long we are having to wait. I am just praying that it gets back to normal for when my other DCs apply (who won’t have perfect predictions!) it is going to be very interesting to see what happens with exams. Some of DS’ friends (who also have great predictions) have been very disappointed with their offers and are planning to reapply with grades in hand if they get too scores….this could run for a while….

OnePlusOneEquals · 30/03/2022 07:47

I’ve been a lurker in this thread and previous ones, DS is in year 12 and as my eldest will be going through all this shortly. Reading all your comments has been really interesting and helpful, though it has been a harsh process for many of you. I never realised how long unis could keep you hanging on for a rejection or acceptance and how many students with stellar grades could be so easily passed over. It’s hard to know what the unis want and what info they use to accept/reject - the personal statement must be a lot more important than I thought. But with covid restricting interactions over the past couple of years even that is harder to fill with experiences. DS and I have had a few good chats recently about what he can use/do to bolster his statement. In some ways university set tests and interviews seem fairer, but not everyone shines well in interviews - I know I’m like a deer in headlights! So good luck for all still waiting to hear and thank you for the information and experiences you have shared.

Xanum · 30/03/2022 07:57

Congrats @doubleshotcappuccino!

Sorry to hear about St As @Igglepigglesblankie but a super set of offers no less!

MarchingFrogs · 30/03/2022 09:04

@OnePlusOneEquals if you havent exploered the UCAS website already, the Key Dates for the 2023 admissions cycle are already up there in the 'Undergraduate' section, along with a lot of other useful information about the whole process. Intending applicants will be able to set up their account in early May (the search tool goes live on April 19th); hopefully the school will already have started discussing post-18 options with them.

OnePlusOneEquals · 30/03/2022 09:35

Thanks @MarchingFrogs will take a look, it’s been a month or two since I last had a gander on their website. His 6th form are really good and have already got some open day trips planned for them should they wish to see some unis. Some day trips and some over nighters. The official info is good, but peoples own experiences are just as helpful - if it wasn’t for online forums I wouldn’t have known about the lack of accommodation at St Andrew’s and the very likely possibility that if he applied there (and even had the slightest chance of being accepted) he could spend a lot of time commuting to uni - he’s annoyed enough about a train journey and walk/car to 6th form as it is……so it’s definitely a campus uni he’s after! St Andrew’s is no longer one of the options he’ll be putting down sadly.

fishingeagle · 30/03/2022 11:46

Brilliant offer @doubleshotcappuccino - hope she's excited.

@Igglepigglesblankie Many of DS friends with perfect grades got nowhere with St As too.I think accommodation is always an issue at St As and a brake on offers but this year doubly so with deferrals - Fife council apparently restrict numbers of HMOs and a friend who taught there told me a serious limiting factor on expansion is apparently the capacity of the drains and sewers! Who knew? But utterly fantastic to have Durham and Warwick.

Eightytwenty · 30/03/2022 12:14

Cambridge feedback received. One offer made by the college for His/Pol (6% acceptance rate!). Overall feedback was that he had a solid performance but just not up to the levels of the best (1!). Nice enough and he’s happy to put it to bed.

1 offer?!! Bloody hell they never really stood a chance did they? At least the feedback was positive.
Igglepigglesblankie · 30/03/2022 12:34

Thanks guys - DS is already over the St Andrews rejection - he had a look at the St Andrews spreadsheet on the student room and was comforted to see he was in good company as all the RUK physics rejects has great grades. It’s good learning for the future and I will be encouraging DS2 to avoid Scottish universities!! DS recognises he’s in a very good position - at his school most people have only achieved a couple of offers and mostly their 4th/5th choices….some of his friends who attend independent schools have had 5 rejections! Funnily enough the kids who aimed for more medium ranking universities (but still very good and in the RG) have fared much better. The bottlenecks all seem to be at the more competitive end of the spectrum. But there is also a lot of angst around waiting on offers and university accommodation on first come first served basis filling up….
