Following on from the Oxbridge rejects thread but I've got rid of those two words. I for one am interested to know where they all end up and when Durham might finally deign to reject/offer DS...

Haven’t posted very often on this thread but have popped in from time to time. My DS was pooled by Cambridge and another with an Unconditional for St Andrews. Feeling quite relieved that he will be a good deal closer now that Orientation Week is looming!

He achieved 3 Grade A’s in his AHs and another A Grade for a crash Higher this year. Fabulous results all round. Well done our smart offspring!

Volterra · 09/08/2022 15:32

I had forgotten the Scottish results are out - huge congratulations to them all!!! So lovely to hear good news.

@TangoWhiskyAlphaTango so sorry to hear you are having a rough time 💐

ACloseMatch · 09/08/2022 17:07

I have completely lost track of my name on here, and of pretty much everything else in life. Anyway. Popped back today to see how the Scottish contingent got on, and delighted to see some nice news!

Sorry you've had a tough time @TangoWhiskyAlphaTango .

Two weeks to go, and DD is completely in denial. She wants to go to school herself to get her results (parents there are expected to attend too if possible) and won't talk about clearing despite really not wanting to go to her only choice. I'm slightly at a loss, and hoping it will all just fall in to place.

No trips to Ikea for us until we know where she is going. I do love an Ikea trip.

Eightytwenty · 09/08/2022 22:12

thanks for the good wishes.

@fishingeagle 🤞🤞🤞
@AmeliaShepherd congratulations
@ACloseMatch sounds a tricky situation for you to manage. Really hope things come good.

Letsgoforaskip · 10/08/2022 09:22

Massive CONGRATULATIONS to all those who have their results already!

@TangoWhiskyAlphaTango I’m so sorry you’re having a rubbish time. I hope you feel better very soon.

Stockpot · 10/08/2022 19:21

Well done to all the Scottish students sounds like all did very well!

It sounds like a hellish summer @TangoWhiskyAlphaTango , here’s hoping that the Autumn is a turning point.

I appreciate all the St Andrew’s tips @Eightytwenty . DD won’t know till the 18th whether she is going or not. She doesn’t know whether to buy a ticket to the freshers stuff or not. She is worried they will sell out. (Surely that is not possible.). I worry about halls, computer ID, and getting signed up for the advisory meeting in choosing courses that first week.

DD has been on the Instagram St As page. It’s mostly Americans introducing themselves. I think she is a little intimidated. I’ve told her not to be a snob or a reverse snob. Try to be open and curious and recognise no one got to choose or earn their background.

Eightytwenty · 10/08/2022 21:36

@Stockpot really feel for your situation. While they Moyer manage the situation year after year, when it’s your first time it all feels overwhelming. I guess we’ve had all the things somewhat spread out, whereas you’ll have to have a crazy week or so to get it all sorted. If I can help with anything (finding some of the stuff is quite tricky) let me know. Can send screen grabs or talk you through.

fifelife · 11/08/2022 08:53

Most Freshers Events have tickets on the day, resist the pressure to buy the pass, there will be plenty of non union events going on that will clash with pass events, they are often more fun ,ie society or hall events.
The Americans are fine,-most of them will be doing IR and living in ABH and they tend to stick together unless they are on the hunt for someone who knows someone that knows someone who once met Prince William...Everyone finds the St Andrews that works for them.

Puffalicious · 11/08/2022 19:45

Hey all!

I'm late to the party as was in Greece and my 2 stooges didn't sign up for text results ☹️, so just home today for the paper results.

DS1 2xA at Advanced Higher and 3 XA at additional Highers. He's keen to confirm if they're band 1s with the school (not on the certificate which is bonkers!). So, yes, in yer face Oxford!

Thankfully no more chat of S America 😱: he's having a great summer - travel/ festivals/ work- and quite up for uni now. Phew!

DS2 has BIG shoes to fill and feels the pressure despite always being told he's his own man. He did well in Nat 5s (4X As' 2XBs and 2 XCs) but he's disappointed with the 2 Cs (predicted an A and a high B) so will appeal those. He's had a load on with a recent dyslexia diagnosis and an ongoing adhd investigation, so I'm bigging him up massive style before school starts on Wed.

HUGE congrats to my fellow Scots. Looks like they all smashed it and deserve their unconditional places.

Some fabulous news for DS1s close friend who got the grades for Architecture at Glasgow School of Art (he was super nervous) and my close friend's daughter who despite narrowly missing the conditions for Pharmacy has been offered a place anyway 😀.

I'm so sorry to hear about your shitty summer Tango. Time will help, and it sounds like you have a solid plan and great support. 💐

Eightytwenty · 11/08/2022 20:54

@Puffalicious brilliant news. Hope your class are also celebrating! Fingers crossed you get somewhere with the ADHD diagnosis. DS2 has just achieved 7A’s and 1B at N5. We would not have thought that would be possible (nor anywhere close) pre diagnosis/ starting on meds. He has missed out on so much learning due to his dyslexia and adhd.

Eightytwenty · 11/08/2022 20:57

@fifelife thanks that’s helpful. Will pass it on to DS.

Stockpot · 12/08/2022 00:30

Thanks @Eightytwenty !

Stockpot · 12/08/2022 00:33

Youngest DD just diagnosed with dyslexia @Puffalicious It’s a relief to understand, and to have extra time on tests. Great news about DS1!

Puffalicious · 12/08/2022 00:54

Thanks Stockpot, we're just beginning to understand his processing due to the dyslexia. The extra time came just in the nick of time for exams.

Phenomenal results for DS2 eightytwenty .That's so heartening to hear since we're just at the beginning of the adhd journey.

TangoWhiskyAlphaTango · 15/08/2022 07:39

Thanks for all the well wishes. My heart is taking longer than my head to catch up with my situation and it hurts like hell...one day I'll be ok I think 😭😭

@Puffalicious Fantastic results for your Ds and and so well deserved 💃💃 I can't believe you had the torture of waiting until you got home!! 😱😱

With all the doom-mongering news about A-level results DD is getting very tetchy now and is so nervous. Her student finance updated to say it was ready to be paid so she's read a million things into it hoping it means she's got Bath as it's stating payment due the day her course starts. Of course she can't be sure but it's like a carrot on a stick 😂 Ah well only 3 more sleeps now.....I'll have no nails left and more grey hairs by then. Good luck to all English parents 💪🏻

doubleshotcappuccino · 15/08/2022 10:34

Beautifully put @TangoWhiskyAlphaTango but I'm sorry that you've had all this to deal with.. similar DD here..and to be honest me .. Good Luck All ❤️

My DD was recently officially diagnosed with dyslexia too. She had the extra time for exams like your DS which has really made a difference. She's now got DSA sorted as well which is useful.

TangoWhiskyAlphaTango · 15/08/2022 12:55

Thanks 😔DD has just a had a phone call from call from her college, they want to photograph her for the local paper ahead of results day, bless she's well chuffed. College are crap though as emailing results not able to collect in person.

Xanum · 15/08/2022 13:28

Wow. Here we are. 3 days to go. Good Luck to England/Wales Cohort. Well Done to the Scots.

Puffalicious · 15/08/2022 17:27

Thanks Tango. Angie it's good to hear other DC are getting the extra time too- it made a big difference to DS2 for sure.

Keeping all my fingers and toes crossed for the English/ Welsh results. Are N Ireland the same day?

SayYouDontMind · 15/08/2022 18:36

Keeping everything crossed for all those getting their results on Thursday. I'm full of admiration for those of you with DC that have had to navigate all this with issues of dyslexia, ADHD, ASD. Our DC are incredible 🙂

Puffalicious · 15/08/2022 22:00

They ARE incredible sayyoudontmind

Volterra · 16/08/2022 05:22

What lovely news on here, so pleased to read it 😊
DS has extra time. He didn’t really need it before A level but found it really handy in A levels. He was originally a bit doubtful he needed it but agrees now that he did.

Eightytwenty · 16/08/2022 07:55

@angieloumc i didn’t know about DSA so have bookmarked that for DS2 who will be going through this in a year. Thanks.

I didn’t realise that schools handle results so differently in England. Back in the day we all went to school. In Scotland kids can sign up to a text service (& possibly emails too) so they know their results from 8am. It works brilliantly (except when DS1 failed to enter his phone number correctly in 2020).

TangoWhiskyAlphaTango · 16/08/2022 08:45

@Eightytwenty Yes it's crap here they have always been able to go to college to collect results which seems part of the big day. All on proportal now which will no doubt crash on the day! Can't wait now to get it over a celebrate (I hope!!) Grin
