Following on from the Oxbridge rejects thread but I've got rid of those two words. I for one am interested to know where they all end up and when Durham might finally deign to reject/offer DS...

@Tiggertigerpants @fishingeagle Good luck to your Dc. They will have a wonderful time at Durham I’m sure. Dd was oxbridge reject last year and has just completed first year in bailey college at Durham.
I second @fishingeagle‘s comment- Dd (stem course) has been worked very hard. The first term was a bit of a shock to the system for her tbh. Once she got into the rhythm of the workload she was fine and from Xmas onwards she had got to grips with it .
She’s had a brilliant year and has thrived both academically and socially (she’s a quiet person generally) . She can’t wait to go back. The last 5 weeks of term after exams finished sounded utterly fantastic (balls, formals , regattas, seaside trips, picnics by the river, college days etc). Oh to be young again!

fishingeagle · 21/07/2022 17:22

@Eightytwenty exciting times!

Eightytwenty · 22/07/2022 10:09

Thanks @Puffalicious and @fishingeagle. Hope all the kids are enjoying their summer. Just under 3 weeks till results here. I’m heading off on holiday (bad parenting). DS1 should be fine. DS2 - not so certain hopefully DH won’t have to deal with appeals.

Stockpot · 22/07/2022 12:52

DD is having nightmares about results. Now she has decided that she won’t have got the A she needs in history.

Roll on results day.

That’s tough @Stockpot they don’t have the experience of waiting for exam results to know that this is a process generations have gone through. What are the appeal rules with A levels? In Scotland there is an automatic right to appeal if you get less than the teachers predicted. (I think).

Stockpot · 22/07/2022 19:45

I don’t know. I’m just hoping that she is a bad judge of her own performance.

doubleshotcappuccino · 23/07/2022 19:25

@Stockpot can totally relate and empathise ...worry is building for DD here too .. still a fair bit of waiting so I'm trying not to worry about her worrying ( failing obviously) .... on another note she's had a quick look on clearing and it's clear whilst they said there wouldn't be adjustment this year there are some fantastic unis available... it helps for Dd to have a plan B ( and C sometimes D) so it's proving to be a useful exercise to have a quick look ..

Stockpot · 23/07/2022 21:38

That’s good advice @doubleshotcappuccino ! A constructive distraction.

Anyone know anything about AQA potentially going on strike?

MarchingFrogs · 28/07/2022 07:04

www.aqa.org.uk/news/delivering-results-on-time-an-update

AQA are saying that it won't affect the notification of results:

Published: Friday 15 Jul 2022

Our response to Unison’s announcement of industrial action

We’d like to reassure you that Unison’s decision to go on strike later this month will not affect schools and students getting their results this summer – we have robust plans in place to make sure it doesn’t.

We’re disappointed that Unison is claiming otherwise, as this is wrong and only serves to cause needless alarm for students and teachers at what’s already a challenging time.

For context, only about 5% of our staff have voted for industrial action, and nearly 90% have already agreed to our pay offer, which is an average increase of 5.6%.

fishingeagle · 28/07/2022 13:17

@MarchingFrogs thanks for this.

'Robust plans in place' makes me nervous. I note they're not committing to the 18th, just 'this summer'. I hope I'm being unduly pessimistic.

TangoWhiskyAlphaTango · 08/08/2022 19:11

Helllloooooooooo! Hope you are your lovely DC are all having the most fabulous summer - boy its been a hot one hasnt it?! Just wanted to pop on and say good luck to those in Scotland, I believe it is results day tomorrow. Hope you are all ready for it, I know DD wants to just know now. It seems to have dragged on and I think she cannot fully relax without 100% knowing where she is going.

We had to obligatory trip to Ikea today to stock up on student essentials which was quite exciting, christ though they need a lot of stuff god knows how I will get it all in the back of my mini come September 🤔

@Geamhradh DD told me the good news and bloody brilliant I just hope Mini Tango will be joining her too and they can meet up in real life - DD so wants to get in and will be pretty gutted if she misses her grades.

My summer has been pretty shit to be fair, split up with my stbxh and was supposed to be going on holiday to Greece so that got cancelled then I caught Covid for the first time which knocked me about (being a nurse and in the thick of it god knows how I havent had it sooner). Anyway onwards and upwards (at least that is what I telling myself). Enough about my woes....GOOD LUCK lovely Scottish DC let us know how it all goes. Gin<<<< for the parents 😁

doubleshotcappuccino · 08/08/2022 19:16

@TangoWhiskyAlphaTango good to see you back on but sorry you've had a crap summer. Joining your good wishes for those in Scotland tomorrow. It seems like an age ago we all began .. because it has been ! Also eyes shifting through of DD's lost what to buy and really no clue how to get it all there... wherever " there" may be. So glad you're sparked this back up though @TangoWhiskyAlphaTango ... I'm going to need it !

doubleshotcappuccino · 08/08/2022 19:17

*list

Eightytwenty · 08/08/2022 19:18

@TangoWhiskyAlphaTango thanks for remembering. Was just coming back to say the same! I don’t remember if anyone needs any specific grades or if we’re all in the same lucky unconditional boat.

I’m sorry to hear your news. That sounds really rough. How has your DD taken it?

@Geamhradh did I miss something? Sounds like good news.

26 days till the start of term for St A. Must be a massive bun fight to get organised. I keep being far too invested and keep sharing infor gained from the parents Fb group. Am sure I am very annoying.

Allicando · 08/08/2022 19:33

Ah thanks both. DD has taken it fine, luckily for me we had not moved in together, that was in the planning for after both DC were at Uni so the physical aspect of splitting is easy - the emotional side is another matter. I am planning to move back to my home town next summer after DS has finished his A-levels. I relocated here last year and whilst it is a beautiful part of the country with both DC gone I know i will very lonely and isolated, work is back home too so makes sense.

It has been a loooong road hasnt it from applying to Oxbridge then will they won't they get an interview, then interviews, then rejections then A-levels. I have aged years 😂DD is having major wobbles about her results and has convinced herself she won't make the grades especially in History but who really knows until the day. I have booked the day off so come what may I will be here to celebrate or wipe her tears!! Hope your DC are holding up too xx

TangoWhiskyAlphaTango · 08/08/2022 19:47

Sorry that was me in another name!! 😬

Eightytwenty · 08/08/2022 20:16

@TangoWhiskyAlphaTango sounds like a very positive plan. Will be keeping fingers crossed that it works out smoothly for results and the life!

doubleshotcappuccino · 09/08/2022 04:19

@TangoWhiskyAlphaTango similar wobbles here too .. and about History ! So hard for them to gauge how they've done. Really sorry to hear it's been so tough .. sounds like you have a plan moving forward.. and also hopefully after results that's one more thing that is less of an unknown. @Eightytwenty exciting times and yes we are a long way from those early pre O and C application days! Good luck to you with the prep. Dd offers are grade dependent/ conditional so they drum roll continues for a little longer....

SayYouDontMind · 09/08/2022 08:20

Eighty twenty I for one am very happy you're sharing lots of info from the St A FB - i find it really helpful.

Tango thanks for your support for the Scottish contingent and really sorry that you've had a tough time these past months. Hope life settles down soon and that you're able to celebrate come results day and get a well deserved break at some point. Keeping everything crossed.

UPDATE - thought I'd posted the above but hadn't. Have now got results.... (Shameless bragging alert!)

3 X A grades at Advanced Higher and another Higher at A. Get it up yer Oxford!!! So, so proud. He's going to St A with a clean sweep of Grade As. After all the shittiness of Covid and less than stellar home learning at his school he's gone and done it 🙂

TangoWhiskyAlphaTango · 09/08/2022 09:48

@SayYouDontMind WOOHOOOOO!!! Amazing results!!! How utterly wonderful and congrats to your DS! Were they around what he expected / was predicted? Lots of celebrating today then 💃

Thanks for the well wishes, I'll be ok.....one day! 😱😭😂

Eightytwenty · 09/08/2022 09:49

Congratulations @SayYouDontMind that is brilliant news. I don’t think I realised there was a higher in the mix too. @Puffalicious good news with you too I hope?

3 A’s at AH plus 1 in an extra inter-disciplinary thing which I think is like an EPQ.

DS has also done brilliantly at N5’s despite adhd and Dyslexia so feeling very happy and relieved there too.

SayYouDontMind · 09/08/2022 10:35

Thanks Tango and well done to both your DC EightyTwenty. Yours must be a happy house today 🙂 The postal results have arrived and my DS is trying to take in the sheet of paper that has all his Nat 5s, Highers and Advanced Higher results and Grades on it.

So that's both of ours off to St As with their 3 A grade Advanced Highers EightyTwenty. Not long now!

fishingeagle · 09/08/2022 10:37

Congratulations to your DC @SayYouDontMind and @Eightytwenty! Brilliant news and I so hope that DS gets to join your brilliant offspring in Scotland! Hope all went well for @Puffalicious DS too.

I'm sorry to hear that things have been so tough of late @TangoWhiskyAlphaTango - I so hope your DD gets good news on the18th.

History seems to be the one causing most concern here too...but am endeavouring to project reassuring and temperature-lowering vibes.

Eightytwenty · 09/08/2022 11:55

Now counting down and keeping fingers crossed for the rest of you (& hoping the St A crew will be joining mini 80:20 & @SayYouDontMind DS.
