Following on from the Oxbridge rejects thread but I've got rid of those two words. I for one am interested to know where they all end up and when Durham might finally deign to reject/offer DS...

Lurking again as DC have all disappeared in their own rooms ..(why bother coming home ..).
Anyway DC was like this last year. Well actually she was quite chilled about it. But anyway still waiting for LSE. Got her offer, got her first choice accommodation and loving it. So sit tight and don't give up, may still happen

Hopetogouni · 10/04/2022 22:17

Hi all
Long term lurker. Got great advice from mumsnet while preparing for 11+ and now as well 7 years later! Name changed since then..my son is at a London independent school and was rejected from Cambridge but has received offers from UCL( 9th march) and Warwick ( 5th April) for economics.. awaiting LSE. No in person offer days at both of them.
A lot of his friends haven’t heard from any of these .. so fingers crossed for more offers.

Rejection tonight for DS1 from Imperial. God alone knows why he had to wait this long. His brother (with Cambridge offer) was interviewed by Imperial back in February and rejected about three weeks ago- again on a Sunday evening Confused DS1 never got invited to interview, so I've no idea why his rejection came after DS2's. Frankly, though, nobody was expecting him to get good news at this stage in the game. He doesn't seem to mind - it was a long shot.
Come on, Bath and Bristol... 🤞

doubleshotcappuccino · 11/04/2022 03:46

@kitnkaboodle ahh no I'm really sorry to hear that at this late stage . Also sorry to know the delicate balancing act for you all along in this process. Just inconceivable why they would make him wait.

Good advice @Notagardener .. fingers crossed for you @Hopetogouni .

Eightytwenty · 11/04/2022 08:10

That is rubbish @kitnkaboodle. And just doesn’t make sense. Will keep fingers crossed & send positive vibes for b&b.

TangoWhiskyAlphaTango · 11/04/2022 08:18

@kitnkaboodle What a tough position to be in, forgive me but I can't remember, does DS1 have any offers yet? I so so hope Bristol and Bath come in for him, what a torturous time Sad

Stockpot · 11/04/2022 08:22

I’m crossing my fingers for your DS1 @kitnkaboodle. It’s so tough.

kitnkaboodle · 11/04/2022 08:35

Thanks everyone. He's not upset really, as nobody expected him to get an offer at this point, and there's some consolation to be had in that his brother got a rejection from them too! It didn't do DS2 any harm to get that one rejection!
So DS1 is rejected from Ox and Imp, but has an unconditional Exeter offer. Still waiting on Bath and Bristol. I think if he's rejected from those, then that will really sting.

Valleyofthedollymix · 11/04/2022 09:10

Oh FFS kitnka, it's so ridiculous that it took so long, utterly enraging. They must have known earlier, how difficult can it be?

I know this year is difficult because of the Covid effects, but this admissions departments need to get their acts together. Or we need a wholesale reform of the system.

PS ditto about Bristol and Bath. He'll be an asset wherever he goes I'm sure.

So very glad to see posters just missing each other at open day!
Sorry for posters with rejections and who still have to hear. This year is enough to drive anyone mad!

Anyone who has firmed an Economics offer at UCL? DS has Economics offers from UCL, Warwick and Notts. Rejections from LSE- sob!- and Cambridge. He has firmed UCL and insured Notts because the Warwick offer is higher than the UCL one, oddly! Plus he prefers to be in London.

Piggywaspushed · 11/04/2022 09:31

Those are the very places DSs friend is waiting for offers from. I do wonder why they send offers out in waves like this. It makes the ones waiting feel even more frustrated.

Puffalicious · 11/04/2022 09:34

Rubbish kitnka but B&B will be great offers if they come through and Exeter is great to have in hand.

Please ask your DS' friend not to feel bad. My DS is an international student ( we are expats in London). Hence his early offer. Some of his far more brilliant friends are still waiting.
Hopetogouni · 11/04/2022 10:53

DS is waiting to hear from LSE. otherwise is going to firm UCL and put Warwick as insurance for economics. He has heard from both of these in the last month but so many of his friends are waiting to hear from these uni’s and kings too. He was probably lucky to hear from them earlier!

Oh a lot of people have been asking DS why he would firm UCL over Warwick. Do you have a lower Warwick offer? DS offer from Warwick is AAAA and his offer from UCL is quite a bit lower at AAAA.
Hopetogouni · 11/04/2022 11:19

His offer at UCL is AAA and Warwick is AA*A.. however he got rejected from Leeds which was going to be his insurance! So he has no other choice.

CaliforniaDrumming · 11/04/2022 11:21

Being rejected from Leeds is so odd when he got into the others! DS did not like Coventry; found it a bit depressing after the buzz of London, so much as I did like Warwick myself he is picking UCL over Warwick.

Hopetogouni · 11/04/2022 11:21

Those are extremely high offers! 3A*A wow.. my DS has standard offers even though he does 4 A levels.

No one from his school has got an offer from Leeds- all with 3A/4A predictions
Hopetogouni · 11/04/2022 11:24

That was meant to be 3A and 4A

DS's friend who hasn't heard from W or UCL was also rejected from Leeds! I think he thought the same about Leeds.

Sorry, I am a complete ass. The UCL offer is AAA and the Warwick offer is AA*A. I am not British and find the uni offers for only 3 A levels hard to grasp! He is doing 4 though.

No one in his school has got offers from LSE.

Piggywaspushed · 11/04/2022 13:03

I know very little about the world of economics but did look at a few degrees with DS a while back. I know of the stellar reputation of Warwick / LSE/UCL/Bath in this field but am a bit bamboozled by all these Leeds rejections! Is there anything in particular that sets Leeds economics degrees apart from eg Birmingham, Manchester, York? Or is it just a sign of the rising popularity of Leeds Uni in general? It can't just be deferrals, can it?

nativityplayreject · 11/04/2022 13:55

dc did get a Leeds offer (well place I suppose, given that they applied grades in hand). Hopefully this will be some consolation, given the apparent number of Leeds rejections based on this thread alone, assuming Warwick is ultimately a rejection.
