Not sure if there is already a thread on this? My son is hoping to apply to Cambridge for Computer Science for October 2023 start.

AffronttoBS He's doing computer science.

AffronttoBS · 22/10/2022 10:47

@FriendlyLaundryMonster Dd is not going for computer science in Imperial, so different entry assessments I believe - she is waiting to hear whether sh3 gets invited for an interview.Hopefully someone will come along with A current application for CS at Imperial.

DownToTheSeaAgain · 22/10/2022 11:03

@FriendlyLaundryMonster my son has CS at Imperial on his list. The week before last he was invited to do an online test. I think he submitted his UCAS application a couple of weeks before this.

Karwomannghia · 22/10/2022 11:40

Ds has got his first offer - from warwick for linguistics. AAB. It’s happening!

FriendlyLaundryMonster · 22/10/2022 11:53

DownToTheSeaAgain That makes sense timing wise as DS only submitted on the 14th I think, so just getting things through now. Hope it went ok for your ds. Apparently you can't prepare for it!

hornetgirl · 22/10/2022 12:29

First offer in for DS. Southampton AAB for biology with marine biology.

Great to have a back up in the bag.

Karwomannghia · 22/10/2022 12:40

quite a few offers seem to be AAB

DeadDonkey · 22/10/2022 12:48

DS has the standard AAA offer from Manchester for his course. He’s hoping for lower offers from a couple of others that he’s applied for.

Karwomannghia · 22/10/2022 13:10

yeah depends on the course and uni but just noticed a few seemed to be AAB

OnePlusOneEquals · 22/10/2022 13:42

Do you think it takes longer for offers to come through for Master courses rather than Batchelor ones? DS has a friend pretty much applying to the same unis and courses as him except for one course at York where friend has received an offer and he hasn’t. No other offers anywhere else as yet for either of them.
He’s a little jittery as a few friends have offers now and he doesn’t - but I’ve told him not to be concerned.

babysteps22 · 22/10/2022 13:48

DS's one offer so far is Bristol AAB for MSci chemistry

Easy to be jittery I know I often am.

I should imagine it varies from department to department and also when the application was submitted.

Okay - there was a deadline for Oxbridge on 15th. October, but if you think about it there will be a person on the other end (hopefully!) working their way through a pile of applications (online or on paper? or both?) in date order.

So it is bound to vary when people get offers.

My DD got an offer for York about a week ago.

Not expecting to hear about Oxford yet of course as TSA not until 2nd November.

So that leaves Edinburgh, Warwick - I've forgotton the fifth one right now will need to check back.

That is how I imagine it will work anyway - anyone else out there with a different view of process and I am quite prepared to be corrected!

perseverence · 23/10/2022 10:25

Cardiff is the other one:

Grades unis ask for Psychology and Linguistics for Unis:

Warwick AAB (Psychology with linguistics)
Oxford A* AA (4 years BPS accredited - Psychology and Linguistics)
Cardiff A* AA to AAB (Psychology)
York AAA (Psychology subsid Linguistics)
Edinburgh A* AA to AAA (BPS accredited - Psychology and linguistics).

DD received York offer last week of ABB - good news

TSA for Oxford 2nd. Nov.

Nothing else so far - comms from Warwick, Cardiff, Edinburgh...

OnePlusOneEquals · 23/10/2022 11:17

Thanks @perseverence both sent applications off on the same day to exactly the same unis with only that difference in batchelors/masters at York. They both have 4 A* predicted grades with only one A level different. They only found out their similarities after the applications went in.

It is probably just that it is a different person dealing with the masters applications

Yes that makes sense

MajorityofThree · 23/10/2022 15:33

It all seems very random but am sure it's not. Just depends on subjects etc. and still so early in process. DS sitting on 3 now including Bristol which was very much favourite along with Oxford so he's happy.

OnePlusOneEquals · 23/10/2022 15:38

@perseverence the TSA is on the same day as the PAT. Have just had a browse whilst having a brew about what it entails and what subjects it is for. Surprised to see it’s for Geography as well as human sciences/psychology etc - it’s all quite interesting! DS is steady away with his PAT studying right now, has almost completed all the past papers and other strands of revision he thought he needed to do. I just hope he avoids all the horrible autumnal viruses flying around right now.

bettbburg · 23/10/2022 18:28

We're sitting on two offers ABB and AAB.

Yes, I hope all avoid the viruses.

However if anyone comes down with Covid etc they can hardly be disavantaged surely as it is not their fault! I have read through exam regs with TSA and it says if you are not well let the invigilator know!

Karwomannghia · 23/10/2022 21:28

Ds just told me the ucas website has been down and he didn’t actually find out what his offer was- he just assumed it was the grades they normally require! What he has was an email from the uni saying we are happy to tell you about your offer or something with a link to ucas which then didn’t work? Has anyone else’s dc not been able to access it today?

NiamCinnOir · 24/10/2022 07:34

Yes, @Karwomannghia, the UCAS website has been down for maintenance this weekend. Dd thought it might not be available again until Wednesday.

perseverence · 24/10/2022 09:45

Thanks so much for this info about UCAS website, I was wondering why there was no more news!

I have asked DD to speak to her tutor regarding getting to the exam on time.

Normally journey to college goes without a hitch, but with train drivers strike/postal strike etc you never know.

The most important thing would be to let the tutor know who could then let the invigilator know. It does say on the regulations don't attend if you are ill!

OnePlusOneEquals · 24/10/2022 13:33

first interview request through now, I’m happy and he’s happy!

juicy0 · 24/10/2022 14:17

Great news @OnePlusOneEquals
