Not sure if there is already a thread on this? My son is hoping to apply to Cambridge for Computer Science for October 2023 start.

Well school FINALLY got her reference sorted and they pressed the button yesterday. <Lots of her friends have offers already
SAQ to complete now and NSAA next week. She thinks she is going to do biology and maths on section 1 and chemistry on section 2 (if that's allowed) as she's better at chemistry even though she is applying for biology route

Cambridge (st Catharines)
Edinburgh
Durham
Bath
Newcastle

Edinburgh is her favourite at teh moment

Good luck user29. That is one milestone out of the way at least.

Offer from York in for my DD this evening.

Heavens above thank goodness. They work so hard and is so stressful.

Reassuring grades asked for - I'm so relieved. It is a scary process for young ones and us older ones! (I'm over fifty!)

FriendlyLaundryMonster · 12/10/2022 18:24

School have not yet submitted DS's application! I'd really like them to hit the button instead of probably pfaffing around waiting for everyone else's :)
He is applying for:
Cambridge
Imperial
St Andrews
Birmingham (sponsored degree)
Edinburgh.

juicy0 · 12/10/2022 18:45

Those of your DC who have had offers, did they get email notification from UCAS or is it just a case of checking UCAS track every day?

OnePlusOneEquals · 12/10/2022 18:47

Exciting hearing about the early offers…….still waiting for 6th form to press the button too! Some of his year group have had theirs submitted this week and he’s heard of 2 offers already

UCAS sends an email and asks them to check their application for an "important update"...

juicy0 · 12/10/2022 19:15

Thank you @hampsteadmum

Note sure where you are with this but oxbridge cutting it a bit fine but still okay

FriendlyLaundryMonster · 12/10/2022 20:14

Yep, I feel that it’s a bit fine! The deadline is 6pm on the 15th I believe. I really hope school doesn’t leave it until the very last minute. DS has done everything he can.

First offer received - Liverpool
Form was sent by school yesterday and offer received today, one very happy Dd Smile

That's great news.

Ds submitted his form today and is under the impression he won't get any offers from elsewhere until Oxford have decided. I'll tell him he's mistaken.

bettbburg · 12/10/2022 20:19

@balzamico what subject did your DD apply for and was it Oxford ?

DeadDonkey · 12/10/2022 20:51

DS didn’t submit today - no idea why, but the plan is now to do it tomorrow. I’d rather just have this bit out of the way.

HewasH20 · 12/10/2022 21:05

Oxford - not till after results of TSA?
Edinburgh - not until March according to posters here
York - dont' know when offers come through?
Warwick - don't know when offers come through but it says on website offer issued and then interview after that?

DD had pretty much the same list in 2019 for 2020 entry for PPE. (I keep a diary, hence I know the dates).

Oxford makes all offers on the same day in January, with people dropping out along the way before interview.

Edinburgh rejected DD in Feb on her 18th birthday
York offered on 17 Oct
Warwick offered on 16 Oct. No interview
Durham offered on 21 Oct. Many heard in March.

bettbburg · 12/10/2022 21:10

Offer day for 2023 is January 10th

balzamico · 12/10/2022 23:33

@bettbburg yes, she's applied to do History at Oxford. She was notified by Bristol today that due to number of applicants they would wait until they were all in before making offers, next spring presumably?

Fingers crossed for her. At least they have told her so she's not on tenterhooks.

FINALLY DS’s application to Oxford has been submitted. His final choices (in order of preference) were:

  1. Oxford
  2. Warwick
  3. UCL
  4. Kings College London
  5. Durham

I’ve already counselled him that he’s unlikely to get any early offers from those universities and that he should remain happy for his peers who do receive early offers and not get too despondent.

All in all he is very upbeat and relaxed, which sim really pleased about. Now on to the Admissions Tests!

Aurea · 13/10/2022 06:37

Congrats to those who've applied so far.

My DS is yet to decide on a fifth choice for comp sci. He's Scottish so different admission quotas apply to his applications for Scottish unis.

His choices are:
Cambridge
St As
Edinburgh
Glasgow.

My question is, looking at last year's unexpected tales of 3 A Star candidates with no offers having applied to all top rankings unis, should he put a lower ranking uni for his fifth choice? He will probably choose a Scottish one due to the absence of tuition fees. If this is not necessary, he would be minded to pick Durham.

For context, he already has the Scottish equivalent of an A Star at maths A level and is taking four more this year with A Stars predicted.

Well done it really is a hurdle isn't it. I was a bit annoyed at the college that they wanted all the choices out of the way so early but get it now really as it is done then. And as you say onto the next thing...

Amazing how they appear so upbeat and relaxed sometimes - perhaps it is because we do a lot of the legwork. School trip yesterday, was up at five - making sure she got the coach on time - she didn't get back till 11.30 from London I was shattered.

Feel like a swan constantly gliding on the surface and doing that paddling thing underneath. Well done Firefox 1066 it has saved the remnants of my sanity so far posting on this thread...so thanks

Offer day for 2023 is January 10th

Thanks bettbburg
Just to confirm info that is Oxford isn't it? January 10th so that must be after interviews if they are called?

Also anyone know if those are in person or online this year?

perseverence · 13/10/2022 07:01

the answer to that one according to my DD's college would be YES.

They call it an 'insurance' choice.

With added bonus of no tuition fees in bonnie Scotland - where the government has much more sense in education than ours - (personal view) - I would definitely choose Scottish one for fifth choice.

perseverence · 13/10/2022 07:03

In the unlikely event that they are (heaven forbid) ill on exam day/have some family crisis and don't perform as they might usually do - which would be human...

...the insurance choice means they have a fall back position...with a lower offer hopefully.

Azure · 13/10/2022 07:04

Oxford definitely online interviews; professors at open day weren't happy with that decision.

DS has received an offer from Nottingham, so is very happy to have one "in the bag". Several of his friends have received offers from Warwick already for maths or engineering subjects.
