All good here too - relief all round

Juja · 18/08/2022 09:08

All well here as well- a relieved DD and her parents

Congrats to all who have what they need and good luck to those who've just missed out and working out next steps...

PermanentTemporary · 18/08/2022 09:10

Ds is in 🥳. Very relieved to be over that moment. Insurance choice would have been so good too. Very best wishes to all x

ProggyMat · 18/08/2022 09:30

weighed in, weighed in!
Now she can start on the reading list…

Panicmode1 · 18/08/2022 09:33

I can't keep up because I am at work and will catch up properly later, but brilliantly well done to those who are in!!

ladygrinningsoul · 18/08/2022 09:33

DS aced the A-levels but missed out on the STEP, so off to insurance choice. Congrats to everyone who made it!

CurlyhairedAssassin · 18/08/2022 09:49

@ladygrinningsoul ah the STEP is a killer. DS is waiting to hear if a friend got his STEP for Cambridge Maths. A lot of maths students don’t get it and are disappointed which is why they make more offers than they have places - they know the STEP will be the decider. Really tough process.

i could throttle DS sometimes. He has no sense of urgency. Ive just had to nag him to email his Cambridge college to accept the place as he read an email about half an hour ago to say can you reply urgently to accept cos if anyone was turning it down they could offer the place to kids who narrowly missed their grade, like @SkygardenTower ‘s daughter.

He’s just come out to make a coffee so I asked if he’d emailed yet and he said he’ll do it soon, after his coffee. I said “do it NOW, it takes 2 mins, how would you feel if you’d narrowly missed the grade and were kept on tenterhooks cos someone was swanning around all smug at home with their confirmed place, just making a coffee and not bothering to confirm -they specifically said URGENTLY, don’t wait to do it, it’s not fair. They will be waiting for your response. It’s just a one line reply you need to do!”

honestly…..

CurlyhairedAssassin · 18/08/2022 09:50

How is your DS feeling about it, @ladygrinningsoul ?

cosmiccat · 18/08/2022 09:56

I've dipped in and out on this thread but my DD has got a place for maths at Cambridge. So incredibly proud. Amazing achievement for her as we knew nothing about the admissions process and she has attended very ordinary state schools but with some great support. She overcome the massive hurdle of STEP exams. Its been a long journey and I am already reminding her to no succumb to imposter syndrome.

CurlyhairedAssassin · 18/08/2022 10:10

Wow, @cosmiccat , that is a bloody good achievement. DS is doing engineering at Cambridge but at the college offer holder’s day, DH said there audible gasps when in the parents’ meeting they told them the ratios or percentages of maths offer holders who don’t get in, compared to other courses. It is really really difficult, she must be feeling so chuffed. Yes, keep reminding her that she very much deserves her place!

Eightytwenty · 18/08/2022 10:10

Just coming back to say congratulations all! @CurlyhairedAssassin what a good parent you are (& how frustrating!). I hope they all have a fabulous time wherever they are heading. 2 weeks and a few days till St A start date for us.

ladygrinningsoul · 18/08/2022 10:12

@cosmiccat he's OK. No regrets, he feels he did his best.

pantjog · 18/08/2022 11:14

DD got her offer... heading to Oxford to read Music with a choral scholarship. So happy for her!

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 18/08/2022 11:24

pantjog · 18/08/2022 11:14

DD got her offer... heading to Oxford to read Music with a choral scholarship. So happy for her!

DS2 also got his offer (only awaiting one A level done in his gap year). Music at Oxford with an organ scholarship.
Well done to your daughter @pantjog

CinnamonJellyBeans · 18/08/2022 11:58

Well done to all those DC who have a place. Get yourself over to the current students chat thread as well: That's you now!

Commiserations to those who did not get the grades they needed. Is anyone appealing borderline grades?

kitnkaboodle · 18/08/2022 12:01

DS2 is in! Congratulations to all successful applicants especially @Panicmode1 and @CurlyhairedAssassin - fellow Cambridge engineers! We have known plenty of exam disappointment over the last couple of years in this household too, so commiserations to those who are reading but too disappointed to post. I know what that is like too. But after more than one disappointment, DS1 is now happily off to Bristol too.

DadDadDad · 18/08/2022 12:06

Just dropping by to offer congratulations to those who got their place. I'm particularly pleased to hear about the Cambridge Maths - 30-odd years ago that was me waiting to hear if my STEP results had got me in (and they were delayed, so I was on tenterhooks until the Friday, and had to rely on a teacher opening an envelope and reading it down the phone from school to a callbox where I was on holiday Shock).

I see Cinnamon got here before me, but it would be great to have new blood on our Oxbridge students thread. We might even be able to answer any questions you have! www.mumsnet.com/talk/higher_education/4559396-oxford-cambridge-current-students-support-chat-thread-2022?page=1

Panicmode1 · 18/08/2022 12:23

Yay @kitkitnkaboodle - was hoping it was good news for you too!

HoneyMobster · 18/08/2022 12:29

Ha ha @DadDadDad - DD is into Oxford but I'm not fresh blood 😉

OP posts:
Decafcoffee · 18/08/2022 12:42

the wait continues for us.. We’re appealing a borderline grade!

MFLMum2022 · 18/08/2022 12:47

Well done to all those with offers. I’ve been following the thread but not posted much as have had a lot else going on. Very pleased to report that DD also made her offer, and is off to study Modern Languages at Oxford.

DD’s school actually released a full mark breakdown together with the results. DD got an astonishing full
marks in both the (external) oral exam and one of the other papers in her chosen language, so she’s feeling especially pleased with that.

DadDadDad · 18/08/2022 12:52

No problem, @HoneyMobster - recycled blood also very welcome!

Skerryberry · 18/08/2022 13:18

@kitnkaboodle Fantastic news! Glad both your DS's are now on their way to their chosen universities. Been waiting for an update!!

SkygardenTower · 18/08/2022 13:36

Congratulations all!

Anyone else is the summer pool?

heinztomatosoup · 18/08/2022 14:04

Congratulations to all your young people with Oxbridge places! My DD will be joining them, so thrilled for her for this next adventure!
