If a school is so small it doesn’t have an exams officer then surely SOMEONE else amongst the staff would have the breakdown of scores? that’s if the students themselves aren’t given them, or are emailed them later. Have no idea how it will work this year. Whatever, I’m pretty sure that all universities are expecting calls tomorrow from students who narrowly missed a grade.

as to the idea of an exams officer being away on results day, I assume you don’t mean on holiday? Results days for exams officers and 6th form admin involved in uni applications would be ringfenced as days that those staff must be present in school.

Genegenieee · 18/08/2022 05:07

For any other sleepless souls - STEP results are out!

DD got a 1 and an S! Waiting for A level results but she's met her Cambridge Maths STEP requirements (1,1) which was the bit we were most worried about. Hoping hoping that all is ok on the A level results now 🤞🏻 🤞🏻🤞🏻

Decafcoffee · 18/08/2022 05:39

Feeling really sick to my stomach now. Dd is super nervous. She has Bristol as insurance but hasn’t even looked at accommodation or even registered yet. She seems to have her heart set on Cambridge.. aaargh!! She’s also not in the country at the moment but has assured me I’ll get a ring once she knows!
just a question if they miss the grade or narrowly miss the grade what are the options? Contacting the college? Remarking? Dd is my oldest so no frame of reference here.

PermanentTemporary · 18/08/2022 05:46

Not too sure Decaf but the post above about getting exact scores from the school and then ringing seems good. Ds has the Cambridge admissions office number, I assume that would be right rather than the college...?

PermanentTemporary · 18/08/2022 05:49

Think i might get up and clean the bathroom or something... 😬

PermanentTemporary · 18/08/2022 06:20

Just to say that R3 Through the Night is playing some gorgeous stuff for nervous pottering about...

goodbyestranger · 18/08/2022 06:23

PermanentTemporary no, it would definitely be the college.

Good luck all.

goodbyestranger · 18/08/2022 06:34

Luckything50 in every school there will be a team of senior people with the breakdown of marks.

All the colleges at Oxford (and presumably Cambridge does the same) will have already had their meetings to decide which near misses to take, if any. Our Ho6 has very occasionally been able to persuade a college to take an otherwise rejected stub but only where serious mitigation was presented. I’ve certainly known situations where colleges held places for the outcome of urgent re-marks, although the scope for those has narrowed.

Hopefully none of this will be relevant.

goodbyestranger · 18/08/2022 06:36

Student not stub!

But yes, you’re right, the decision will be made on all the evidence (aptitude test and interview as well as actual grades).

JulesJules · 18/08/2022 06:59

Best of luck everyone. Hope it's not too stressful this morning. Two years ago when D1 got her results, track just wouldn't load at all, she sprinted to school to get her grades and her college emailed her when she was en route.

Decafcoffee · 18/08/2022 07:22

Thanks for clarifying. Really hope it doesn’t come to that but trying to be realistic.
best of luck everyone!

SkygardenTower · 18/08/2022 07:35

Unis just get the grades, they don’t know the breakdown, so they don’t know who was just a few % out which is why they ask to see a breakdown.

All schools will have an exam officer, if is a condition of holding exams at the school. It might not be a dedicated job if the school is small but someone will have a breakdown. And every school I have worked with has said to be available on results day, preferable in person but at a minimum good phone and Wi-Fi contact.

Well done of the STEP result!

PermanentTemporary · 18/08/2022 07:52

Thanks goodbyestranger that's really helpful x

Luckything50 · 18/08/2022 08:01

Yes thanks for all the advice. I’m worried because ds actually missed two exams due to covid, so obviously has mitigating circumstances but… He also has Bristol but will reapply next year I think… but hopefully it won’t come to that

Panicmode1 · 18/08/2022 08:04

DS has just left...school is 5 mins walk away... feel sick...🙏

SkygardenTower · 18/08/2022 08:11

The school portal isn't working. Argghhh.

Panicmode1 · 18/08/2022 08:13

Letsgoforaskip · 18/08/2022 08:13

Good luck to you all!!!!!

PermanentTemporary · 18/08/2022 08:15

Congratulations @Panicmode1 and @Letsgoforaskip - it really does feel like congratulations are due to the parents too 😁

CurlyhairedAssassin · 18/08/2022 08:16

Oh congratulations those who have had good news! DS is in an online queue, going up to school in a min.

CurlyhairedAssassin · 18/08/2022 08:33

My DS is in too! Phew! Now the worry starts with how he’ll cope with it all! 😬

SkygardenTower · 18/08/2022 08:33

A* AA so missed her offer but on ucas it is waiting confirmation so she needs to send her transcript.

So hard to see her upset and I know (as do you all) how hard she worked!

Just need to wait now.

Malbecfan · 18/08/2022 08:37

Congratulations @Panicmode1 @Letsgoforaskip and @CurlyhairedAssassin . Fingers crossed @SkygardenTower - DD's college put out on social media that they would be in touch if people had missed by a small amount.

Good luck to everyone waiting. Don't forget, once the euphoria wears off, we're still here to answer questions...

petitebleu · 18/08/2022 08:37

He's in!! He's in!!!!

Panicmode1 · 18/08/2022 08:45
