Oxford aspirants part 5......the wait is over the results are in!!

Thought I would start a new thread as its likely to fill up quick now.

So here we are after many months of applications, assessments and interviews. The wait is finally over for those with DC who have applied to Oxford. Those with Cambridge applicants have another 2 weeks to wait until the 25th Jan (bummer!!)

You have all been a lovely bunch to share this journey with and I wish your dc nothing but the BEST OF LUCK for tomorrow (and the 25th).

Just a thought, but should someone change the thread title so it's clear we're now posting about Cambridge results??

@kitnkaboodle oh god, many bittersweet congratulations. I'm afraid I got invested in your DS1 getting in...

@DottyHarmer re Oxford standard offer I think you are thinking of humanities. The standard offer for some other Eg STEM subjects is higher . DD offer is for A star / A star / A. And I think the lottery idea sounds a worse idea than the current system too .

Is anyone else still waiting to hear? Getting a rejection is one thing, but having to wait around for it all day is taking things a bit too far...

Yes he does. I thought he was fairly relaxed about C because of Imperial but he said he really wants Cambridge.

Just heard another friend of his has got a maths offer (not sure which college) so the news is still trickling in....!

I think like most of us applying non-UK, we just need to do some homework now as it was all understandably on hold until today. Even DD's offer from Bristol has now changed its core language courses so that was another blow this week.

@ealingwestmum I'll PM if I can work out how! A bit of a mumsnet newbie.

I hadn't seen that Bristol had changed their core languages courses - my DD is booked to go to their offer holders day in March.

DD still interested in TCD, we may head there at Easter, the lure of EU citizenship for her is high.

DD has an offer for Maths!

From the college she interviewed at, standard offer for A levels and 1,1 offer for STEP (think also standard).

Extremely pleased for her, she was so excited. STEP is the final hurdle though.

I can't quite keep track in the last few hours of all the news but sympathies and best wishes to all the DC who didn't get the news they hoped for. As happy as DD is, she is a little deflated as her friends, so far at least, didn't get offers.

DD1 has an offer! She had a mild panic attack when she saw her email, so we did not open it until she was ready.

Congratulations to all DC's who got offers and many virtual hugs to the ones who did not get the news they were waiting for.

I am unfortunately having to wait until my DD gets home from school. I know the email has arrived but she doesn't want to open it there and deal with the questions and brave face etc, so having to be patient. It's killing me, aargh!

She is beyond excited! Quite a few of her friends from school have also got C offers so there’s a lot of excitement..
I still can’t quite believe it!!

Hi everyone. Hope you don’t mind me jumping on. DS had today been offered an unconditional place at C for Geography!!!!

It’s been a long time coming as he was rejected last year. I was on the applicant thread last cycle. Last year was a nightmare year for offers (most of our DC were rejected on that thread as I seem to recall). But they all have gone on to brilliant unis as you can see from the ongoing thread.

I just wanted to say to anyone whose DC didn’t get the news they wanted today ... this is just a point in time. This whole C business is FAR from being an exact science. A lot of it is luck. Sometimes it just doesn’t go your way. But they have shown massive resilience in getting this far - they really have. It’s hard not to get to over-invested in Oxford / Cambridge as the application process is so demanding. But ultimately, it’s just two unis in the whole world. Your DC will no doubt go on and get their firsts elsewhere and this will all be meaningless in the long-run. But today, take care of yourselves xxx

DS got pooled and got an offer at Magdalene - he's thrilled, as are we. Don't know the details of the offer yet and I suspect it will be higher than Imperial but the pressure is now on to get the grades!

DS received a Cambridge offer 3 years ago only to lose it on results day so I understand the bittersweet emotions in this brutal process.

Well done to the amazing young people and their wonderfully supportive parents on this thread.
