Thought I would start a new thread as its likely to fill up quick now.

So here we are after many months of applications, assessments and interviews. The wait is finally over for those with DC who have applied to Oxford. Those with Cambridge applicants have another 2 weeks to wait until the 25th Jan (bummer!!)

You have all been a lovely bunch to share this journey with and I wish your dc nothing but the BEST OF LUCK for tomorrow (and the 25th). Flowers

Congratulations @ladygrinningsoul DS and @cosmiccat DD!
Sorry @Valleyofthedollymix

Letsgoforaskip · 25/01/2022 10:52

@Valleyofthedollymix wishing your DS a fantastic time at St Andrews. It sounds as if he has a brilliant outlook which will take him far in life.

Juja · 25/01/2022 10:54

@ealingwestmum sorry to hear you daughter didn’t hear the news she was hoping for. My DN (who from what you’ve said may be at the same school as your DD) also has an offer for Montreal (McGil)l. Not sure she’s going to take it but good to explore all options and Montreal is such a lovely city and she’ll be fluent in French in no time.

Piggywaspushed · 25/01/2022 10:54

All HSPS hopes now pinned on a few still standing!

ProggyMat · 25/01/2022 10:55

Sorry to read your update @Eightytwenty

cosmiccat · 25/01/2022 10:56

@Genegenieee hoping you get some good maths news very soon.

Valleyofthedollymix · 25/01/2022 10:59

Just had an update - almost all his peers didn't get in (while all four of his friends applying to O did). Like the slam-dunk cleverest boy in the year, the one who got almost full marks in the ELAT etc. I'm really sorry for them all but I can't say it's not a bit of comfort in terms of DS. I was slightly worried he'd be the only one.

Panicmode1 · 25/01/2022 11:07

I'm so sorry to hear of all of these disappointed teens. If I'd been in charge, they would all have got in, purely based on the dedication of the parents 😉

@valleyofthedollymix That's what I'm worrying about. He's in such a strong friendship group, all incredibly talented boys. The head talked of a 'golden group' at a school event on Sat...just worried DS will be left out, and that's going to hurt him more than not getting in I think.....

goodbyestranger · 25/01/2022 11:07

That's the nature of the Cambridge beast Valleyofthedollymix, given that Oxford culls heavily before interview. Sorry to hear of the noes. I think being the only one of a group of friends who doesn't get in is especially tough - there's definitely comfort in numbers.

ealingwestmum · 25/01/2022 11:07

@Eightytwenty

No for us too. He was pooled but didn’t get chosen from there. Sounds pragmatic but gutted.
So close Eightytwenty.
Valleyofthedollymix · 25/01/2022 11:08

@Panicmode1it's awful feeling that way isn't it? I didn't want to wish rejection on any of these lovely kids, but at the same time I didn't want him to be the only one. Genuinely think that would have bothered him more than not getting in, now he can shrug it off.

goodbyestranger · 25/01/2022 11:11

The one boy who didn't get in in DS's friendship group remained very firm friends with those who did get in - went travelling together in subsequent summers etc. Still good friends now, six years later.

Letsgoforaskip · 25/01/2022 11:15

So sorry @Eightytwenty.

TangoWhiskyAlphaTango · 25/01/2022 11:16

@Valleyofthedollymix @Piggywaspushed @ealingwestmum @Eightytwenty

Gah I am very sorry to hear of the news Sad its bloody brutal. I hope you and your DC are all holding up ok Wine for later xxx

ACloseMatch · 25/01/2022 11:19

It's a no for DD.

I'm more disappointed than I thought I would be. I stupidly checked my phone in class and was too distracted in my lesson.

PermanentTemporary · 25/01/2022 11:26

Ds got an offer. I'm thrown. But ecstatic.

A friend of his did tell me he got a science award this year that he'd never told me about. He is a bit of a dark horse.

God is it too early for 🍷

doubleshotcappuccino · 25/01/2022 11:26

A no for us too - good luck all xx

Panicmode1 · 25/01/2022 11:27

@goodbyestranger That is good to hear. They are all walking the Mont Blanc trail this summer and have been great friends since Y7 so I'm sure they will stay good friends...but it won't be quite the same nonetheless....

4 mins til he is out of his exam....I'm feeling so nervous, it is ridiculous.

ealingwestmum · 25/01/2022 11:33

PT well done to your DS! we need the wins.

Doubleshot, ACloseMatch, the kick in the teeth wears off. I'm sorry it's a no for them.

Balls2it · 25/01/2022 11:45

It’s a no here too. Pooled but didn’t get picked out. DD is being very pragmatic about it but I suspect a few tears later. Fingers crossed for Durham now!
Congratulations to all those who were successful x

Panicmode1 · 25/01/2022 11:50

Yay for some good news @PermanentTemporary!! Congratulations.....

Still waiting....

Storminamu · 25/01/2022 11:52

There seem to be a lot of noes. Far more than for Oxford. And no doubt the yeses come with tough grades.
No word from DC and they weren't sure whether they'd want to send the news when it's received at school, so I may have to wait till tonight.

badasscafe1 · 25/01/2022 11:53

good thoughts to everyone regardless of outcome -- those still waiting sending good juju

ealingwestmum · 25/01/2022 11:58

Thank you Juja. You may need to PM me later on your DN!

I think like most of us applying non-UK, we just need to do some homework now as it was all understandably on hold until today. Even DD's offer from Bristol has now changed its core language courses so that was another blow this week.

OnTheBenchOfDoom · 25/01/2022 12:00

Congratulations to those with a yes, and heartfelt sympathies to those with a no.

This was us last year with Cambridge and it was a no. Ds is now at Durham having the best time in a lovely college. Good luck to anyone waiting on a Durham offer.
