New thread for us, lots of lovely support whilst we wait. Some of our lovely DC now have interview dates whilst the rest of us hold our breath and try not to hassle our teens into checking their SPAM folders at least several times per day Grin.

Hurrah! Brilliant news @TangoWhiskyAlphaTango That's a lovely looking course and was high on DDs list.

CurlyhairedAssassin · 23/11/2021 22:21

Well done for Bath, Tango! It's a real relief to have an offer in the bag and does take the pressure off slightly for them so fingers crossed offers start coming in thick and fast now.

ealingwestmum · 23/11/2021 22:26

Fabulous news on Bath offers Tango and Phi!

Thisisconfusing · 23/11/2021 23:32

Its been a busy here too for my twins - Offer in from Exeter ( Biology ) and a Biology interview ( Oxford); and Bath ( Chemistry ) . Wasn’t expecting Bath until Jan so a surprise . Imperial interview for chemistry tomorrow . Two colleges interview for Oxf Biology - heard from one ( not the one applied to) but not the other ( could be college applied to or something else??? ). Obviously very pleased got the interview but I’m a bit mystified about how this interview system works. Is that different to pooling ? Also foot in both camps because still waiting to hear on chemistry Oxford interview . No interviews on TSR from her college yet so I guess they are just slower.

fishingeagle · 23/11/2021 23:38

@Thisisconfusing Congratulations on your great news! It all sounds incredibly promising for your DTs. Hope all goes well at Imperial tomorrow.

Thisisconfusing · 24/11/2021 00:11

Thank you @fishingeagle . I see you also waiting on Durham - snap ( for Biology) . I think a long wait for that one . And yes we both have slow Oxford colleges too . It is all so different to my day . I don’t think I gave it much thought and I don’t think my parents did either ( I didn’t do Oxbridge ). I’m just thankful that both have good options already whatever the next few weeks bring .

doubleshotcappuccino · 24/11/2021 03:38

Thank you @TangoWhiskyAlphaTango @PhiRhoSigma.. woke up and saw this so suggested DD check her email .. another Bath offer here ! Very grateful for the timing as yesterday was a tough day of others getting Cambridge interviews and still waiting .. so pleased for DD .. Thinking of everyone else holding out for offers. We are having a break from the waiting for a Cambridge bench but sitting back on it tomorrow ..

TangoWhiskyAlphaTango · 24/11/2021 05:01

THANK YOU ALL - Isnt this just a lovely supportive thread? @doubleshotcappuccino so happy for your dd too. We visited Bath in September and she fell in love with the place but we do need to go and visit Nottingham and Liverpool too as she has lower offers from there and we have not visited yet. I must admit I like the look of Nottingham plus its an hour closer to home plus cheaper, they have an offers open day in Feb so if C is out we will visit before she firms anything. The relief is huge for DD as apart from C Bath was the only one she was waiting on and her fave, most definitely takes the pressure off C now with it in the bag.

Lets hope today brings some news re interviews, Clare are certainly one of the last to give out offers Sad

That sounds great @thisisconfusing though your username is a good comment... difficult to keep track...

doubleshotcappuccino · 24/11/2021 05:39

Thanks @TangoWhiskyAlphaTango and good luck all as we support our DCs through these tricky days. Must say I did feel in full Momager territory as I cross referenced mumsnet updates and gingerly suggested to a sleepy DD she should get her iPad under the pretence of checking it was charging .. felt good to have a cheery drop into sixth form today .. my goodness .. we even had a bit of Taylor Swift. Ahh the short breezy days before our gaze falls to Cambridge again but today we ride without a care ..

Shadedog · 24/11/2021 06:44

Congratulations to all the dc with offers. I’ve fallen down the Oxford 2021 spreadsheet rabbit hole and ds’s college sent out interviews/rejections for is subject last year on the 27th. Really hoping that translates to the 26th this year and I’m not waiting over the weekend. Ds hasn’t mentioned it and I’m refraining from asking him ever so casually if he’s checked his emails. He doesn’t know anyone else applying so he doesn’t have that sense that other people are getting news and he isn’t which is easier I think. It must be really hard when your friends have heard and you are still waiting. Ds has one offer but from his 5th choice. I would love him to get another before he hears back from Oxford so it’s not all doom and gloom but I don’t think it’s likely.

KaptainKaveman · 24/11/2021 07:51

@TomelettewithGreggs

I have a friend whose daughter-admittedly a genius- is aiming for only Trinity at Cambridge. Nothing else will do. Otherwise the Ivy league. She refuses to accept any other college at Cambridge, or indeed any other uni in the UK..

I do think that level of pressure is hard on DC and makes life hard for everybody. DS gets mad if I even ask him to check his mail ( tho am not stopping).

She is setting herself up for a fall in that case. What if she is interviewed at Trinity and then pooled? would she refuse a pooled offer? My dd is at a central C college and said over lockdown that Trinity was one of the most hostile colleges of all of them. Very hard on the students. In contrast my dd was allowed to mix freely in her accommodation and the Porters were really relaxed and even encouraged small group socialising - after all, they are in effect their own bubble. She loves her Porters!

Bath must be doing their offers this evening - DC just now got one for Maths.[/quote]
@PhiRhoSigma please can I ask has your DC done the TMUA. My DD is hoping for a Baths maths offer but hasn't had TMUA results yet or set it so that the results get sent to the unis.

ealingwestmum · 24/11/2021 08:41

Great news on your DCs’ offers Doubleshot and Thisisconfusing

Volterra · 24/11/2021 08:52

Unlurking for a moment. @cosmiccat don’t worry about Bath at the moment. A friend whose DC has just started at Oxford has just mentioned that her DC’s Bath offer last year wasn’t until May - they were pretty much last to offer (along with Bristol) to most of her DC’s cohort apparently.

BilberryBaggins · 24/11/2021 08:53

I was thinking about the genius girl aiming for Trinity Cambridge; TomelettewithGreggs - is she applying for maths by any chance? If she is, that makes more sense, as I understand that maths at Trinity is very different to maths at other colleges - they genuinely do a course that should be called ‘maths for geniuses’ - (genii?) - high drop out rate, but that is deliberate because they are overtly teaching for the Stephen Hawking types. I guess that might make some sense of the ‘Trinity or nothing’ approach, if you will genuinely learn differently to at other colleges.

Good luck to all still waiting - it’s the worst feeling in the world, only mirrored by the post-Christmas wait for offers and the final wait for A Level results!

Horace123 · 24/11/2021 09:17

Congratulations on the new offers! Especially Bath - I really wanted DS to apply and got quite cross when I saw his 5 choices and it wasn't included. Until he pointed out they don't do classics. Now hoping DD will apply in two years ...

ealingwestmum · 24/11/2021 09:25

I too liked Bath Horace, more so than Bristol, but it didn’t do DD’s language. Credit to them for doing their homework and placing course detail above institution!

doubleshotcappuccino · 24/11/2021 09:31

@BilberryBaggins good point ! We will be waiting till the summer ! I'm not sure the nerves can take this with the next DC !! Not easy waiting and lurking behind DD as she checks emails.

Geamhradh · 24/11/2021 09:35

Congratulations to all offers coming rolling in. I've just gone into dd's email Blush as she's another Bath Politics/IR and Exeter same but nothing. (not in Spam like Cambridge either Grin)

TupilaLilium · 24/11/2021 09:50

Hi All. Can I join?

DS applying for MEng. Has an offer from Bath and Bristol and waiting to hear from Cambridge and Imperial for Interviews. He has all A/A at GSCE and predicted 4 A. He says the engaa was a lot of educated guessing so could have gone either way. He sees Cambridge as a long shot but has his heart set on Imperial. He thinks the placement test went well, but didn't get a result as some others here seem to have had. We've heard last year they didn't offer interviews until after January.

It is killing me. I am super cool with him and delighted about Bath and Bristol.

Now, he also says he might take a year off because his girlfriend has decided not to apply this year.....so that in another issue. We are sitting on this now and hoping good uni just say "no". I've let him know he'll have to work full time and be expected to pay into the house. His brother is only two years behind and I want to reduce the years we're paying double uni top-ups. Even if he doesn't go to uni next year, any money we'd spend on him next year will go in a savings account.

TangoWhiskyAlphaTango · 24/11/2021 09:51

So our DD could be on the same course Grin What is your dd first choice after Oxbridge? DD has applied for the 4 year with placement year, she is so excited this morning bless her certainly take the strain off C now.

Welcome @TupiliaLilium. My DS is also a Cambridge MEng applicant, but had an Imperial interview 2 weeks ago (for Design Engineering) and also has an offer from Bristol...I think for the 5 Yr MEng in Design Engineering. He too really wants to go to Imperial I think, but has the grades for a shot at Cambridge, tho he found the ENGAA really tough.

I'm running out of nails and hair...he seems (superficially) to be just taking it all in his stride!

Panicmode1 · 24/11/2021 10:03

Congratulations to all of the other new offer holders too....exciting news for them all!

Geamhradh · 24/11/2021 10:24

Mine is the same- the 4 year with the placement. I'd love for someone she "knows" (even in a kind of way Grin)

Her other choices (in no particular order) are Bath, Exeter, St. Andrews and Lancaster. Sitting on offer from Lancaster. Her own personal second choice would probably be either Bath or St. A but I've a massive soft spot for Lancaster for being the first to spot how amazing she is. Grin
