New thread for us, lots of lovely support whilst we wait. Some of our lovely DC now have interview dates whilst the rest of us hold our breath and try not to hassle our teens into checking their SPAM folders at least several times per day Grin.

Second chasing that, if only for clarification.

mustardpot13 · 23/11/2021 16:25

Definitely email them. You should be told one way or the other before assessment date.

fishingeagle · 23/11/2021 16:39

@CurlyhairedAssassin Congrats to your DS on the Imperial interview - yes I think these test results can be deceptive without any context. DD a few years back got in the low 70s for the TSA which she thought was 'rubbish' because she was used to 80s and 90s at school but actually turned out to be pretty good.

I didn't mean to freak you wrt to the Engaa - the amount of data O and C have on candidates is enormous and growing by the year. I know O use contextualisation in assessing admissions test results, so there's no one cut-off mark across the cohort for eg the TSA or the HAT that secures an interview - can't see C not using the data likewise.

@TomelettewithGreggs

I have a friend whose daughter-admittedly a genius- is aiming for only Trinity at Cambridge. Nothing else will do. Otherwise the Ivy league. She refuses to accept any other college at Cambridge, or indeed any other uni in the UK..

I do think that level of pressure is hard on DC and makes life hard for everybody. DS gets mad if I even ask him to check his mail ( tho am not stopping).

Bonkers, really, since the undergraduate education and experience is better at O & C. I fear that even a gifted teen may be susceptible to the movie-like glamour of going to uni overseas, and the concept of the 'Ivy League'... Wink

(Not knocking the Ivies, which are also excellent, but it shows very limited and superficial understanding of academia to reach the conclusion this child has.)

Genegenieee · 23/11/2021 16:55

Sorry for those who have heard they have not gotten an interview. With those grades it just shows how competitive this is, I hope your DC are ok.

Still waiting to hear from DD to see if she has heard today, and how a mock interview for Manchester went at school.

I've seen on the Student room spreadsheet that three people have had interview invites from her college today. I wish I had not looked...So feel a bit frazzled now at not having heard anything from her today....daren't ask her as don't want to stress her

Well done to all who have received interview invites and offers!

Panicmode1 · 23/11/2021 17:12

@curlyhairedassassin - well done to your DS on his Imperial interview - my DS really enjoyed his (Design Engineering - no test), although he said they won't offer until Jan or something, so that's another wait which will kill me....!

Still waiting.....I can't work out if it's no news is good news, or it's just putting off the inevitable as he was really sure he'd totally underperformed on the ENGAA.

ACloseMatch · 23/11/2021 18:47

DD has tested positive for Covid, and is quite under the weather with it. She slept all day yesterday, but today made use of the time she was awake reading more of the books she referred to in her PS. She's off school till Monday and they are not falling over themselves to get her working remotely yet. Hopefully they will be decent about catch up when she is well.

mich101 · 23/11/2021 19:17

@CurlyhairedAssassin fantastic news on the interview!!! Will keep everything tightly crossed!!!

@Panicmode1 really hope you hear soon! It’s so hard to tell re Engaa as ds was confident that although hard… he felt he had done more than needed. You hear of those that think they did bad though that actually did well and visa versa. I’m almost positive it must be the Engaa that let DS down.. as with his PS , academic results , predictions and references he really should have got interview even if he only got mediocre Engaa results… so thinking it must have gone very wrong!!

Wishing all the luck in the world to everyone’s DC with interviews and offers!

We are praying for an offer from Durham now 🙏

Thanks.

Yes, that's exactly the words that DS used earlier! He actually said earlier that if he doesn't even get a chance to interview then "something has gone wrong". Grin He is looking at it from a probability point of view. Knowing him, he has literally sat down and worked out his odds. The only thing I can think is that they are overwhelmed with engineer applicants this year. DS certainly said there are loads of them even in just his school. He's heard of 2 rejections amongst them at school already. One he wasn't that surprised about, but the other person he was surprised got rejected at this point. Perhaps the competition is just really really strong this year.

Fingers crossed for an offer from Durham for you. We really liked the city when we visited at half term.

TerrifiedandWorried · 23/11/2021 21:06

DD has just discovered the spreadsheet on TSR and plummeted into a rabbit hole of self doubt, poor lass.

SandyBayley · 23/11/2021 21:20

Those spreadsheets are serious rabbit holes. I'd say don't go there but I already have 😂

DD is reporting a number of Oxford interviews for her friends tonight. First Chemistry one I've heard of. Her BF is waiting to hear about Geography at Oxford.

TangoWhiskyAlphaTango · 23/11/2021 21:22

No news from Cambridge but DD just had an offer from Bath for Politics & IR, she's sooooo chuffed especially as we thought they didn't offer until after deadline.

Excellent news @TangoWhiskyAlphaTango - lovely to have a confidence boost.

fishingeagle · 23/11/2021 21:28

@CurlhairedAssassin @mich101 DD2 went to Durham and absolutely loved it. She also received an exceptional education and is flying in her chosen career. Were DS lucky enough to get a Durham offer I would be utterly overjoyed, but much more importantly so would he. Long wait though...I must try to arm myself with patience. But I really wish C would just get on with it now. @TerrifiedandWorried I found that spreadsheet too! DS's college seem to be proceeding at a glacial pace. I daren't even ask him if he's doing any interview prep just in case he were to get an interview as he resolutely resists handling of any kind. Ah well...much appreciate having a safe space to vent!

PhiRhoSigma · 23/11/2021 21:34

@TangoWhiskyAlphaTango
Bath must be doing their offers this evening - DC just now got one for Maths.

SandyBayley · 23/11/2021 21:35

@PhiRhoSigma - excellent. I've heard such good things about Bath.

fishingeagle · 23/11/2021 21:36

Ooh @TangoWhiskyAlphaTango how fantastic! So pleased for your DD - sounds like she's made a really strong application. Bravo her!

DS said to me last night that he would like just one offer 'so at least I would know my application isn't total c**p'. Now would be a really good time for one to manifest itself.

TangoWhiskyAlphaTango · 23/11/2021 21:37

It's strange because we were advised they won't be offering until after the January deadline. Tbh it couldn't have come at a better time as it's first choice after C so to have the offer ahead of an interview decision will ease the pain if she's rejected.

Congratulations to your son too...how exciting!

fishingeagle · 23/11/2021 21:37

Congrats to your DC @PhiRhoSigma!

TerrifiedandWorried · 23/11/2021 21:40

So pleased for all DC getting happy news!

@fishingeagle DD said exactly the same. She's wandering round muttering.

heinztomatosoup · 23/11/2021 21:41

Great news Tango your DD must be so pleased Smile

Oh that's fab OP. My DS not heard from Bath yet.

I think Clare is being very slow. Some chat about it on TSR.

PermanentTemporary · 23/11/2021 21:56

Really god news from Bath, fantastic 👏
