Oxbridge Aspirants 2022...Part 2...applications submitted now the tense wait!

Thought I would start a new thread as part one is nearly full and found thread one to be of great support.

So its deadline week this week for our applicants then the nervous wait begins to find out of they have made it to interview. DD applying for HSPS at Cambridge. We know it is a long shot but got to be in it to win it and she is very keen to try. Looking at the admissions info it does not look as though she will need to sit a test prior but all the best to those who will have to.

DS's application also sitting in a queue at school. I am torn between grateful that they're checking it, and paranoia that they will fail to press send before the deadline.

Glad its not just us then! I believe the cut off is the 15th so they have until Friday to press the magic button. DD onto her personal tutor this morning about it. Imagine if they forgot and missed it...Shock

Thanks for new thread Tango. Another in the queue here, not panicking yet...

It's up to the student to press send. That has to be done before the deadline, then the school is asked to attach a reference. If for any reason the school hasn't returned the form by end of school on Friday (incredibly unlikely!), the student should press send anyway.

Cut off HOUR is 6pm.on Friday. Grin
I've just been on phone to UCAS as DD didn't "send"yesterday because she doesn't fit in any of the 548 (seems like) residency boxes. Spent last week being told by UCAS to contact universities and by universities to contact UCAS but finally reached a lovely woman who clarified that, oh! Yes, it does indeed seem the platform hasn't got a box for "British Citizen in EU". Cheers Brexit!

Anyway, that's sorted. She's "other" for now. Hmm

Our final choices, after last minute panicking and re-reading:
Cambridge- history and politics
St. Andrews IR
Lancaster Pol and IR
Bath Pol and IR
Exeter Pol and IR.

I can see distant glimpses of cats in hell for two of those, but hey ho. Maybe being an "interesting" no known category student might get her an interview

@VikingNorthUtsire it's me SOL in university disguise Grin

Thanks for the heads up on that we thought college sent it off 🙈

Thanks Goodbye, I haven't even so much as seen the UCAS platform, so assum between DD and school they will have it covered. I did give her a heads up on the possible photo challenge for the SAQ (e.g. plain background, I think) but ignored, so Plan B concepts not quite grasped by her just yet.

Thanks for the new thread. As a reminder, DD is applying to Oxford for Medicine. Very long shot!

Also meant to say that DD had a big wobble last night. BMAT scary. Wrong college choice. Aiming too high etc

Hi everyone. Replied on the other thread, saying hi here. My son’s applying to Worcester college for maths. We had a look around outside on Saturday, he knows it’s a long shot, but got to be in it to win it. He loved Warwick, think that’s his 3rd choice currently but not visited them all yet

My thoughts are that somebody has to get in so why not our dc. Just hoping she at least gets a shot at an interview, if she does it will be interesting to see how it pans out for her.

DDs application acknowledged by Oxford for Classics 1A.
Other choices: UCL, Exeter, Edinburgh and Bristol.

@TangoWhiskyAlphaTango I hope DD gets an interview, she'd be really disappointed not to. Anything after that would be a bonus.

In normal years her FCSE results would put her her in a strong position but this year I skydiver they'll count for less. Hence the BMAT anxiety last night...

I'm still watching this thread, DD also applying for HSPS at Cambridge so we're in this together Tango! Also applied to Warwick, Durham, Exeter and Bristol. Very keen on Warwick so that's the most likely option but you never know 🤞

Is everyone asked for SAQ? As application not even gone in yet (like many of you, it's sitting on Head of Years desk in a pile!) and I saw on WIWIKAU that for SAQ deadline is 22/10 which is very tight. What even is it? It is just an extra PS?

That isn't correct. Student presses submit. It goes to school (UCAS does that ). Student doesn't get it back unless changes are made. School submits...

The SAQ needs to be done by 22Oct, so anyone whose school doesn't send til 15th has a tight turnaround. Cambridge sends SAQ within 48 hours of receiving UCAS form.

It's an extra form and v annoying and fiddly (they admit this in their own film!). If you are a standard English student there is very little of relevance. You can do an extra PS here but no need except for under certain circumstances (eg applying to Anglo Saxon) where the generic PS doesn't cover the subject you have applied for (wish they would be clearer about this at UCAS: our PS is very much tailored to HSPS and might make other unis scratch their heads a bit!)

@Piggywaspushed

DD is applying for Politics and IR at her other choices. She is really really hoping for Bath as you know but beyond that maybe Nottingham which looks lovely too and they can also do a year in industry. I am really keen for her to have an opportunity to experience work alongside her degree as I hate the thought of her spending all of that money and having no job at the end of it. Was speaking to a graduate when we visited Bath who also did Politics and IR with a year working at Airbus who has been offered a permanent role with them. I am a nurse so came out of training with a job for life and find it scary that my dc may not have the same opportunity. I may be overthinking that though as I have no clue what the graduate job market is like!

Ah good luck to your DD too lets hope they get interviews and we can share experiences! DD applying for Bath (top choice after Cam), Nottingham, Liverpool and Cardiff all Politics and IR. If she did get into Cam her focus would just be Politics. Initially she was applying for History & Politics but the head of her college looked at her PS and steered her to HSPS instead which seems like a much better fit.

Thanks for info Piggy and Tango. Politics and sociology here for other unis, or social sciences at Durham. Looking forward to comparing notes, best of luck to all the DCs on the thread
