Thought I would start a new thread as part one is nearly full and found thread one to be of great support.

So its deadline week this week for our applicants then the nervous wait begins to find out of they have made it to interview. DD applying for HSPS at Cambridge. We know it is a long shot but got to be in it to win it and she is very keen to try. Looking at the admissions info it does not look as though she will need to sit a test prior but all the best to those who will have to.

Joining the thread... ds has applied for computer science at Cambs (emmanuel). In the throes of preparing for TMUA on 4 November.

Does everyone get a copy of their school reference??

@ealingwestmum

I just LOVE Glasgow. My dream’s always been to spend next phase of life in Scotland (if the politics weren’t so off putting), ahead of the climate that is not convincing the husband!

Uch, as Billy Connolly said ' There's no such thing as bad weather, just the wrong clothing. So get yourself a sexy raincoat and live a little.'Grin

Not at our school. Each student gets shown it by their referee but they don't get to keep it/bring it home. I think at some schools they do get a copy.

Much to be preferred, the politics up here ealingwestmum. My lovely neighbours in Devon (retired academics) waved me off saying how much they'd rather be in scotland because of the political landscape rather than down in the cold hearted south.

ealingwestmum if you ever progress well let us know and we'll sort out a Scottish welcome!

Puffalicious please could you tell me ten (or more) cool places to go in Galsgow?

(New in town - well, an island nearby - although mother's family were Glaswegians).

goodbyestranger · 13/10/2021 22:40

Apologies: not Galsgow!

Hill House in Helensburgh and House for an Art Lover in Glasgow itself are wonderful. I adore Kelvingrove Art Gallery.

Thank you very much Piggy.

David Shrigley swapped Glasgow for my Devon village a few years ago and his partner couldn't believe I was prepared to trade the weather.

To be precise he has a house in Brighton as well as in our village but much prefers our village it seems. As does his dog Inca.

Hmmm...has he not been to Glasgow?

Grin oh god I'm losing the plot, delusions of grandeur about him indoors now.
I will take him one day. Maybe we'll run into Stuart Grin

@Puffalicious , I so agree with Billy. As my (various) MN usernames attest, I don't do summer. Or, i do it, badly, locking myself up and coming out after dark to forage for food in manner of urban fox.

Woah, massive explosion of love for Glasgow overnight! Screenshot the wonderful recommendations, with thanks!

Politics is pretty rank tbf wherever in the UK right now Goodbye, but you’re right, it can get a bit weary in the South. After 30 years here (brummie), I am missing some people kindness right now, so always happy to keep an open mind!

I too am happy to see some offers coming through to the DC here. SAQ finally received here so we’re finally off the blocks too.
