Thought I would start a new thread as part one is nearly full and found thread one to be of great support.

So its deadline week this week for our applicants then the nervous wait begins to find out of they have made it to interview. DD applying for HSPS at Cambridge. We know it is a long shot but got to be in it to win it and she is very keen to try. Looking at the admissions info it does not look as though she will need to sit a test prior but all the best to those who will have to.

DD seems to have gone from zero to 100mph in the blink of an eye. Having only recently decided she wanted a pop at Cambs, she has chosen a college, completed her personal statement, got a school reference she is delighted with, and should be good to go this afternoon. Bless her, she is now quite giddy with excitement!

I think it's subject dependent but my friend's DC got an offer from Bath in April! (First choice so a very long anxious wait). I hope your DC hear sooner but it's not automatically bad news if it's later.[/quote]
Blimey a long wait may ahead of us then?! DD had her SAQ from Cam today so all completed and sent off. Bath also emailed her an account to track any update on her application so now just the wait to see if she makes it to interview. Have to confess I will be disappointed if she isnt shortlisted but then I guess they have to whittle it down some how.

Thats good for her, what is she applying for?

Like many on here I think, she's going for HSPS at Cambs, and a mix of politics and IR or political science elsewhere (2 x UCL, LSE and Leeds). Fingers crossed!

Probably subject specific but DD got an offer from Bath about 2 weeks after she applied (so late October/early November - Physics). It was such a relief as it was the first by a great deal.

Puffalicious · 13/10/2021 17:10

Aclosematch good for your DD- shows her motivation!

Anyone else's DC doing the MAT? DS working on past papers this week as it's half term. We're off on hols tomorrow, though, to give him a break!

Nootall · 13/10/2021 17:17

We're still waiting on the school, who were supposed to enter the application on Monday and are not responding...

Thats good to hear so it may sooner. DD just had an offer from Liverpool to study Politics (stand alone) offer was BBB which is good as their website states usual offer is AAB. She is very relieved as it gives her back up if it goes tits up when she does her exams.

Oooh another one then, my DD has also applied for HSPS and wants to do Politics. Good luck to her!

Can you all hear that frustrated screaming? That's me that is. Bloody UCAS site won't save dd's PS. Computer says no. Have abandoned further attempts. She copied in her PS from a doc, it saved that but in weird formatting, so has just typed it all in, going onto 48 lines. Squashed bits up but now it won't save change. So still stuck on 48. Gah. Will have a look in the morning.
She's also now in total panic and wants to take St. Andrews off as she says she'll never get in, but she doesn't know what she'd put in its place so I've locked her in the cupboard under the stairs (LIGHT-HEARTEDGrin)

heinztomatosoup · 13/10/2021 18:24

Congrats Tango's DD on the Liverpool offer, that's must be a good feeling to have a lovely low offer fall back in, takes the pressure off 😄 We are frustratingly still waiting for school to press the button despite submitting last Thursday 😡

Piggywaspushed · 13/10/2021 18:31

Oh no geamradh. How vexing!

Well done on the Liverpool offer. Can't remember if I mentioned it on here but DS has offers from York (SPS ABB with C in EPQ) and Birmingham for policy, politics and economics - again ABB but an A in EPQ. He hasn't even had any lessons/ supervision on his EPQ yet...

Gizmo98765 · 13/10/2021 18:39

@heinztomatosoup I would maybe ask your son or daughter to follow this up with school again.

TBF my DS who isn’t usually the most organised or reliable has really stepped up to the plate with this. He did his personal statement himself we read through it and made suggestions as did some of his teachers then he added it to the UCAS site and spent a few frustrating minutes getting it to load then submitted it to school. He has discussed his choices with us and his school contacts sound like she has been helpful and on the ball but we haven’t even had site of his UCAS form. I have reminded him twice (last night and tonight and said I wouldn’t remind him anymore) to get his SAQ form in this week if he still wants to apply and his form is relevant for his course. He is on with that tonight, so fair play to him after a long day at school and still having some homework to get through.

Yep, DS is doing the MAT, applying for Maths and Computer Science at Oxford and Imperial. He's been working on past papers but says it's hard to work out how you score in the longer questions.

His UCAS form went off today - woohoo

In my self-indulgent whinging I missed @TangoWhiskyAlphaTango (the acronym of which I've only just sussed Grin) 's dd's offer. Congratulations! Love Liverpool, lived there for 3 years and had such good times.

😂😂😂😂😂 Thank you! Its my favourite word 🤫 Lovely to hear you like Liverpool I've never been but it was dd first choice a few months ago so not a shabby back up. Exh is taking her to have a look around soon - it's all getting real now!

Viking DS says the Oxford online MAT lessons were good- still available recorded- but he says exactly the same thing about the scoring.

Good stuff that the application is in!

OP I too love Liverpool. It's one of my favourite cities to go with my teens- they adore it. It's so easy to walk around and has such a great, young vibe.

Geamhradh · 13/10/2021 21:00

My Italian dp says the only town in England he could possibly think of moving to if we ever came to live in the UK is Liverpool. It's just got a vibe somehow. I think it was Stuart Maconie who said Liverpool is the most eastern American city. Smile

Piggywaspushed · 13/10/2021 21:05

Hmmm...has he not been to Glasgow?

Exactly! I love Liverpool but it doesn't trump my hometown. Was in City centre today for lunch and sometimes I forget just how cool it is. When you've had years of kids/ work/ being exhausted Grinyou sort of don't see it properly . My DS is 17 and I'm re-discovering it through his new eyes. A big reason why if he doesn't get into Oxford he's pretty set on staying here in Glasgow- he knows how lucky he is to live here!
Stockpot · 13/10/2021 21:20

DD got an off we from Newcastle for Geography, AAB. This is a bit higher than their standard offer on their website, ABB. Maybe they are pricing in a bit of grade inflation?

She still doesn’t have her SAQ from Cambridge.

Geamhradh · 13/10/2021 21:25

I've never been to Glasgow never mind him!
I shall put it on my list. Grin

Piggywaspushed · 13/10/2021 21:36

I meant Stuart Maconie, but you should go too!

ealingwestmum · 13/10/2021 21:37

I just LOVE Glasgow. My dream’s always been to spend next phase of life in Scotland (if the politics weren’t so off putting), ahead of the climate that is not convincing the husband!
