Anyone's DC not heard from all their choices? Is this normal?

DS applied in November. Got 4x offers v quickly but still waiting for offer/rejection from his no.1 choice. They emailed him in November asking him about his choice of subjects which he replied to. Then they emailed again asking if he was a "private" student (standard email to everyone apparently). Again he replied. I know they have until May to send out offers but seems a long time especially when it is holding up his firm/insurance choices.

Just wondered if this is the case for others?

Still waiting on Bath and Bristol. Bath have said decisions mid-April due to high number of applications Confused

fiveoldteddies · 24/03/2021 19:26

waiting to hear from 2 unis...

SeasonFinale · 24/03/2021 19:53

Yes, there are many still outstanding due to the deadline being extended and the unis having to consider rather more carefully who to make offers to because they will have more meet offers due to them being teacher assessed grades.

llytigrepden · 25/03/2021 08:51

Ok thanks. So it's not looking good for the one he hasn't received an offer from yet because he's probably bottom of the pile and will only be made an offer if there aren't any "better" candidates, which there will be as this one was a bit aspirational for DS, although it wouldn't have been in normal times.

It's off-putting when you are left wondering.

fiveoldteddies · 25/03/2021 09:14

Hm, not sure that is the case about being bottom of the pile, at least I hope not....
I think dc's first uni just hasn't made that many offers yet. If you search on The Studentroom (TSR), somewhere hidden might be an excel spreadsheet of offers/rejections of those that are on TSR and who have bother completing a form. The course that dc wants has not appeared at all on there. So we live in hope...

llytigrepden · 25/03/2021 09:28

I'm pretty sure DS's no1 choice has made lots of offers. I suspect it's because he got shafted last year (he is a year 14er) and his grades were too low and they are waiting to see how he did this year when he actually got a chance to sit the exams and now, of course, the exams have been cancelled again, so they are probably waiting to see if there is a space for someone like him! I told him the lack of an outright rejection so far should be seen positively but that is probably me trying to keep him motivated whilst also being totally deluded Confused It's horrible for them having to wait with no contact from the university.

My DS waiting for UCL and Lse however got a rejection from Warwick on Monday despite having higher predicted grades than the course required. Just feel really sorry for this yrs uni kids as normally they would have been offered a place

Howmercurialislife · 25/03/2021 20:35

My DD is waiting on UCL, had an interview in Feb and heard nothing since.

Had offers from Kings College, Queen Mary, Goldsmiths and Sussex months ago.

TheDrsDocMartens · 25/03/2021 20:49

Friends dc is waiting on Edinburgh.

CatherineCawood · 26/03/2021 21:49

DD still waiting for Edinburgh. Offers from Exeter, Kings College London, and Liverpool. Rejection from UCL.

SeasonFinale · 27/03/2021 07:09

Edinburgh were waiting for an announcement from Scottish Funding which would affect the number of places they could offer. This came out on Wednesday and Edinburgh have now said they hope ot have their offers out by the end of April

Dd had her final offer - Bath- at the weekend. But she had been told a few days previously that they were going to get offers out by Easter for her course. (She has her results as she took the exams in October after a disappointing teacher given grade)

Still waiting on 2 x Bristol (on hold for both) offers from Manchester, Liverpool and QMUL.
which subject(s)?
KittyMcKitty · 27/03/2021 09:43

@SeasonFinale the Bristol courses he’s waiting on are Philosophy & Politics and Social Policy & Politics. He exceeds the requirements and would ordinarily have expected to get offers but this year I’m losing hope Sad

daisypond · 27/03/2021 09:43

Waiting on UCL. Has offers from St Andrews, Durham, Nottingham and Bristol. (Already has A levels from three years ago)

SeasonFinale · 27/03/2021 09:51

On hold means that they waited until all other applications were in before giving equal consideration to the rest. Have you looked at Bristol admissions criteria for those courses (not entry requirements) it will say how they score the application and the weighting it gives to each area. No news is good news

Haha yes we’ve read all the Bristol information many times and know the admissions criteria like the back of our hands.

He applied mid Nov and has had 2 on hold emails (for both courses) the last being a couple of weeks ago (so a few weeks after extended deadline).

Both courses are 20% GCSEs / 80% A levels with PS as a tie breaker. He has a very good PS (if I say so myself Smile).

There’s been no mention on TSR regarding either course except a couple of people rejected from Pol & IR and given Social Pol & Pol to consider as alternative application.

You’re right no news is good news but I imagine they have / are sending out offers so the longer you wait the less likely an offer is presumably.

fiveoldteddies · 27/03/2021 10:15

KittyMcKitty, on the thread of my dc unis "somewhere" was a link to excel sppeadsheet. But at least you can get an idea from this:

www.thestudentroom.co.uk/showthread.php?t=6675690&page=118

KittyMcKitty · 27/03/2021 10:21

@fiveoldteddies thank you - yes have read that thread and no mention of any offers for his courses or indeed any applicants bar a couple of rejections from Pol & IR who were rejected and given Pol & Social Pol as alternative applications (not sure if they applied) - the whole Politics department appears clouded in mystery and secrecy 😂

He really wants Bristol but I can’t help but feel that if they wanted him they’d have offered by now 😞

fiveoldteddies · 27/03/2021 10:27

KittyMcKitty No, not many replies at all on Bristol from TSR but not

Do you have one of these for Exeter or can you point me in the direction of it?
