Anyone's DC not heard from all their choices? Is this normal?

DS applied in November. Got 4x offers v quickly but still waiting for offer/rejection from his no.1 choice. They emailed him in November asking him about his choice of subjects which he replied to. Then they emailed again asking if he was a "private" student (standard email to everyone apparently). Again he replied. I know they have until May to send out offers but seems a long time especially when it is holding up his firm/insurance choices.

Just wondered if this is the case for others?

Well ds rejected finally from LSE, UCL and Warwick so has firmed Nottingham and insured Loughborough. Actually LSE sent a really good e mail saying although they loved his personal statement and he had over the predicted grades needed they were so oversubscribed this year for economics that they went on GCSE results and his just weren't strong enough. ( goes to a London comp and his GCSE'S were complete mixed bag from 9's and 8's for most down to 6 for both English and a 4 for French.) So at last we have a solid reason and know it's no good applying next year . Good luck for those still waiting for their final offers and huge congratulations to those with offers xx

@llytigrepden dd is a final year student at Glasgow and it's a great city but I have no knowledge of Liverpool
What subject ?

chopc · 27/04/2021 14:02

@nancypineapple - I am sorry for the rejection. I am pleased you were able to get a solid reason for them not choosing him. I do wish all universities would do this

KittyMcKitty · 27/04/2021 14:04

@nancypineapple so sorry it’s really tough! Ds was in same boat with Bristol- feedback great application exceeded requirements etc etc but others better.

Loughborough and Nottingham are great options though!

Ds has Manchester, QMUL and Liverpool and is probably going to apply to the alternative offer at Bristol.

llytigrepden · 27/04/2021 14:23

readsalotgirl63 thank you. It's to study Maths and a language. He probably prefers Glasgow over Liverpool but it's a 5 year course and he's already had to postpone university by a year because he was under-CAGd last year! If anyone has anything to say about Liverpool please share.

KittyMcKitty I would have thought the fact that they offered an alternative course means they will offer him a place on it.

nancypineapple great feedback from UCL and shows how tight it is this year!

nancypineapple sorry just re-read and seen it was LSE and not UCL that gave feedback. Good to have it from one and I assume their systems applies to many.

I was at Glasgow myself hundreds of years ago but read humanities and dd is also humanities. She has a couple of friends who studied maths/physics - is your ds looking at the MSci course ?

chopc · 27/04/2021 14:37

@llytigrepden I saw on WIWIKAU Facebook page that the lecturers are on strike in Liverpool. It's not the only place though.

nancypineapple · 27/04/2021 14:45

Thanks @choc, @KittyMcKitty and @llytigrepden best of luck to your dc .
Yes good to get a valid and rational reason for rejection.

Longtimenewsee · 27/04/2021 15:13

Sorry for those who had rejections @KittyMcKitty and @nancypineapple. Such a blinking long wait !! Kitty- I would have thought that he must have a shoe-in if they’ve asked him to consider a different course.

No not MSci but appears to be one extra year for overseas and another for not sure what!

Thanks for the good wishes - he’s asked to be considered for Philosophy so we shall 🤞🏻 - they say there’s no guarantee of an offer so who knows what will happen. Cant help thinking does it really have to take over 5 months to reject someone- it’s a bit cruel!

readsalotgirl63 · 27/04/2021 16:38

@llytigrepden all undergraduate courses at Scottish universities are 4 years so I would imagine the extra year is for the year abroad required for a languages degree.
I know some undergrad MSci courses are 5 years and some of those involve a year in industry. Friend of dd is doing one of these.

Notagardener · 27/04/2021 18:19

KittyMcKitty, I would have thought if the uni suggested another course he would have it as an offer if interested. dc1 was rejected from one uni but they offered another course instead. So, I think he just "got" the offer when they suggested it. He definitely put that one down as his insurance.
Dc2 has formed LSE and booked accommodation (it's called a provisional booking)

kitnkaboodle · 27/04/2021 21:22

Ah sorry to hear that @KittyMcKitty

As I said before, my DS was redirected by Bristol to a different course, applied for that (around early March) and is STILL waiting to hear about that, so I wouldn't say it was a done deal when they offer an alternative course. It's a pain about Bristol, but I get the impression they actually weigh up each application seriously

KittyMcKitty · 27/04/2021 21:47

@kitnkaboodle sorry they’ve made your ds wait so long! Hope he gets good news soon.

I don’t think they’ll offer to ds - I’ve lost all hope of that months ago but at least they’ve only got a few weeks left they can make him hang on!

llytigrepden · 28/04/2021 08:21

It's awful having to wait so long. It really has been a horrendous couple of years A level/HE aspirant-wise. I hope everyone who is still waiting gets some good news, soon!

Still nothing from Bristol and Cardiff for mech engineering. Not impressed as accommodation is being snapped up.

BramStoker · 28/04/2021 18:25

DD still waiting to hear from Edinburgh

She got a rejection from LSE a couple of weeks ago

Other 3 universities all made an offer way back in the Autumn when she first submitted her application

She really wants Edinburgh so can't make any decisions til she hears from them

kitnkaboodle · 28/04/2021 19:18

@wantmorenow 'we' are waiting for Bristol engineering too ... DS has mitigating circumstances (that predate covid if you can remember that far back ... ) so at the moment they are considering/sitting on his applications for both MechEng AND MechElec ...

wantmorenow · 02/05/2021 14:36

Update; Just had a refusal from Bristol.

Longtimenewsee · 02/05/2021 15:30

Sorry to hear that @wantmorenow. I hope your dc has offers they are happy with

KittyMcKitty · 02/05/2021 15:38

@wantmorenow sorry to hear that I hope he has other offers he’s happy with.

llytigrepden · 02/05/2021 16:38

Sorry to hear that wantmorenow. It's rubbish having to wait so long for a refusal.

NiamCinnOir · 02/05/2021 19:26

Sorry to hear this, @wantmorenow. Dd2 was also rejected from Bristol last week, having applied in October. Her final uni offered her a different course than the one she’d applied for a couple of days after Bristol rejected her, but she’s lucky enough to have offers from her other three. I hope your ds is happy with his other options too.
