Anyone's DC not heard from all their choices? Is this normal?

DS applied in November. Got 4x offers v quickly but still waiting for offer/rejection from his no.1 choice. They emailed him in November asking him about his choice of subjects which he replied to. Then they emailed again asking if he was a "private" student (standard email to everyone apparently). Again he replied. I know they have until May to send out offers but seems a long time especially when it is holding up his firm/insurance choices.

Just wondered if this is the case for others?

Any news, OP?

DS still waiting for Imperial (engineering) but has had news from all other Unis he applied to.

Only heard from Bristol last Friday btw

NotSorry · 30/03/2021 21:34

DS got a no from Imperial today (maths) they said he met the criteria but they had a lot of applicants 🤷‍♀️

KittyMcKitty · 31/03/2021 09:36

@NotSorry so sorry for your ds hope he has other offers he’s happy with.

No news from Bristol here although did see on TSR that an offer had been given out for Phil & Pol although she had very slightly higher GCSEs and was predicted A*AA whereas ds is just AAA - still crossing fingers!

NotSorry · 31/03/2021 10:33

@KittyMcKitty

Thanks, he is fine - his MAT didn’t go as well as he hoped so it was inevitable really

He has an offer from Bristol and Birmingham and waiting on Bath

PrintempsAhoy · 31/03/2021 21:53

DS did not get Imperial either, aero is very competitive anyway, it was always the “long shot”

He has offers from other Unis he likes though, so all good

pepperaunt · 31/03/2021 23:56

DD’s BFF got rejected by Imperial last week for BioChem

Grapefruity · 01/04/2021 05:12

That's a very helpful spreadsheet! Do you know how to find them for other universities...specifically in Scotland?

fiveoldteddies · 01/04/2021 06:53

Grapefruit, The Student Room has a undergraduate application thread for most universities. In there is in some at least a google form as well as link to the spreadsheet.

Bonariensis · 01/04/2021 08:50

Waiting on Bath here too. We heard back from other universities months ago. It does not speak well of Bath university's admin!

NotSorry · 01/04/2021 09:28

Bath have contacted us a couple of times for extra info, but still no news

Antiqueanniesmagiclanternshow · 01/04/2021 09:31

Ds's friend is still waiting to hear from Edinburgh

QGMum · 01/04/2021 09:40

Also waiting for Bath here. Heard from all the rest months ago.

Edinburgh have said offers should be through by end of April. (There is a separate Edinburgh thread).

If you mean Edinburgh they have said offers should be through by end of April. St Andrew's still have a large number pending too.

There was an announcement made on 24 March by Scottish Funding which affected the number of places Scottish unis could make which Edinburgh specifically stated they were awaiting so I suspect other Scottish unis were doing the same.

Antiqueanniesmagiclanternshow · 01/04/2021 12:45

Thank you for that. Will pass it on. It has been causing a lot of stress.

kitnkaboodle · 01/04/2021 17:46

DS heard from Bath today with an offer : ) To be honest, I get the impression that they considered his application very carefully - back and forth with a few queries, etc.

Bristol have been the same (DS has quite complicated circumstances) but still waiting for them ... they are the last now.

NotSorry · 01/04/2021 19:34

Ds finally got his Bath offer, so we’ve got some deciding to do

Dontwanttobeyourmonkeywench · 01/04/2021 19:39

DS is waiting to hear from QUB but it's holding up him being able to accept his first choice. He's applying with known grades as he finished a foundation degree before taking a year out, so he's finding it frustrating 🙄

MrsIsobelCrawley · 01/04/2021 20:07

Hopefully, universities who have delayed making offers will treat students more fairly.

Many universities who made early offers seemed to end the process rather badly by rejecting students across the board. I suspect these universities were concerned that they had offered too many places too early in the process as more students are now likely to achieve their predicted grades.

KittyMcKitty · 01/04/2021 20:10

Ds was rejected from 1 of the 2 Bristol courses he’s applied for today - been on hold since Nov.

Surprisingly it was Social Policy and Politics which rejected him (still on hold for Philosophy and Politics).

Phil & Pol is the one he really wants and his PS was geared towards it (his other 3 offers are Phil & Pol) so don’t know if that was a contributing factor. Not holding out much hope for Phil & Pol though as it has a higher standard offer them Soc Pol & Pol (he exceeds both) but we will keep fingers crossed!

Most of the ones on this thread that are still outstanding are at competitive unis.

University admissions offices have faced huge challenges this year.
Increased applications, massive uncertainty about grades, many staff working from home and home schooling their own children, later equal consideration deadline and a big increase in the number of applications in January and so on.
For those course that are regulated like medicine or nursing they have strict limits on numbers, equally for other courses such as computer science, chemistry, art, there may be numbers limits due to space.
And then Scottish universities have a whole different set of challenges as well.
All that means they are being cautious about the offers they make. I heard recently an admissions director describing the logic behind reducing the number of offers per place for one of his course from over 5 to around 3.
Those universities that are taking the longest to make offers, are the ones that are taking the job of choosing who to offer a place to most seriously and may need up until the deadline of 20th May to complete the process.

Vierty · 01/04/2021 21:04

I know that Bristol politics is a real challenge this year. Lots of people who applied for politics and IR were asked to apply for politics and social policy and this week have had rejections for that despite AAA predictions

KittyMcKitty · 01/04/2021 21:12

verity yes it’s really tough this year. Social Policy and Politics was his “back up” application at Bristol (there wasn’t a 5th Uni he fancied). I’m guessing Phil & Pol hasn’t much hope which is gutting but I guess at least he hasn’t been rejected yet - at least his PS is very strong for this 😞
