Anyone's DC not heard from all their choices? Is this normal?

DS applied in November. Got 4x offers v quickly but still waiting for offer/rejection from his no.1 choice. They emailed him in November asking him about his choice of subjects which he replied to. Then they emailed again asking if he was a "private" student (standard email to everyone apparently). Again he replied. I know they have until May to send out offers but seems a long time especially when it is holding up his firm/insurance choices.

Just wondered if this is the case for others?

By all means wait for his first choice to make a decision. It’s very late for decisions this year but hang on if that’s the one he really wants. However when DD1 applied (years ago) offers came in October and late March. April was unusual then but this isn’t a normal year.

April certainly would have been unusual in previous years since universities normally have until the end of March (20th May this year) to make offers to those who applied before the equal consideration deadline, so should not have been making offers in April to most students in previous years.

DD is still waiting for Edinburgh

It is a very competitive year and she is not feeling hugely confident despite her predicted grades being better than the published requirement for her course

kitnkaboodle · 20/04/2021 08:02

DS is still waiting for Bristol. As others have said, I think this would not usually be considered 'normal', but deadlines etc have all shifted this year anyway.

KittyMcKitty · 20/04/2021 09:42

My ds is still waiting for a decision from Bristol for Philosophy & Politics. He also applied for Social Policy & Politics at Bristol but they rejected him a couple of weeks back. He has offers from his other 3. It’s been a long 5 months!

kitnkaboodle · 20/04/2021 10:59

Similar to my DS, @KittyMcKitty. Was asked to reconsider and switch from one branch of engineering to a different one.

KittyMcKitty · 20/04/2021 12:36

@kitnkaboodle hope he gets an answer (and good news) soon! Ds applied for the 2 courses back in Nov - Phil & Pol is the in he really wants (and the one his PS is geared towards) so we’re keeping everything crossed.

ShaunaTheSheep · 20/04/2021 17:59

Still waiting for LSE (although they did make contact last week to say they hadn't made all decisions yet) and UCL (radio silence).

RaspberryCoulis · 20/04/2021 18:03

We are in Scotland and in a stronger position in that children here apply through UCAS on the basis of grades they already have, rather than on the predicted grades expected this summer.

DS applied just after Christmas and by the end of February heard back quickly from Aberdeen, Edinburgh and Napier. Strathclyde offer came through in March. Still waiting for Glasgow.

Glasgow is being much slower than in previous years.

SeasonFinale · 20/04/2021 19:20

Some UCL ones are coming through this evening as I type!

ShaunaTheSheep · 21/04/2021 07:50

Sadly it's a no from UCL, so we expect same from LSE. Looks like they'll firm Bristol.

Needmoresleep · 21/04/2021 10:04

Shauna, don't give up hope completely. Your dc must be right on the margin. Ds had a laye rejection from UCL, but the LSEs scoring must have been different as they then made an offer.

Fingers crossed. It has been a marathon for you.

ShaunaTheSheep · 21/04/2021 14:33

Thanks Needmoresleep. DS is happy either way. We're going to visit Bristol and Exeter, both are excellent options.

llytigrepden · 21/04/2021 15:18

RaspberryCoulis there is no rhyme or reason to this offering malarkey - DS received an offer really early on from Glasgow (applied in November, heard in November) yet is still drumming his fingers waiting to hear from his number 1 choice.

ShaunaTheSheep sorry to hear that but it sounds like there are some great offers in the bag, and one still to come hopefully.

It got to 30 April one year for DD2. Foir Boighton. She gave up and rejected them! There have always been anomalies and oddities.

llytigrepden · 22/04/2021 14:06

DS finally got a rejection after 5 months of waiting!

Sorry to hear that @llytigrepden . Very frustrating I know

llytigrepden · 22/04/2021 14:14

DS is fine about it thankfully. Just pleased he can get on and firm/insure.

@llytigrepden sorry to hear that but glad he is ok.

Like you say the not knowing and being in limbo is in some ways worse.

PresentingPercy · 22/04/2021 18:32

Lots of DC have waited months after early applications. Juggling deferrals and more qualified applicants is a problem. At least decisions can now be made! Good luck to all.

RaspberryCoulis · 22/04/2021 18:35

DS has just now had his offer through from Glasgow.

Needmoresleep · 22/04/2021 18:48

Yay!

I wonder if Scottish Universities have also had to work with more uncertainty over EU numbers, given the relatively high number that used to take advantage of the home student status.

RaspberryCoulis · 22/04/2021 19:17

Definitely - there is a lot of juggling going on with Scottish students who don't pay fees, English/Welsh/N Irish who do and EU who do now I think?
Needmoresleep · 22/04/2021 20:56

Presumably EU students have gone from no fees to international fees. That's massive.

I assume demand for places in the ROI has gone through the roof. The Irish will be legally obliged to treat EU students the same as Irish students. Tertiary educaiton in English is popular.

Fiveoldteddies · 22/04/2021 21:42

DC got offer from LSE today. Very happy as first choice.
