@Card1gan wow amazing news! Congrats and enjoy the celebrations.

bimkom · 20/06/2021 00:27

@Card1gan Congratulations! It must feel like such a relief to have some certainty (even if you were reasonably confident, and even more so if you weren't).

Monkey2001 · 05/07/2021 12:10

Hope IB students got good results today. In case any IB people don't have offers. SGUL is in Clearing for people with achieved grades.

fairisledog · 05/07/2021 14:31

How does that work @Monkey2001 given that the majority of no place hopefuls will have to wait until 10th August to be able to apply to SGUL when they finally have their grades ?

Does not getting actual grades until later disadvantage them as far as a chance to apply to SGUL is concerned ?

Monkey2001 · 05/07/2021 15:32

Graduates, gap year applicants, IB students all have results.

Yes, it is possible that A level candidates might not get much of an opportunity in Clearing. At least the Scottish candidates are the same day as RUK this year.

Monkey2001 · 26/07/2021 08:40

Do people who did not get offers all know that St George's London was in Clearing for grads, so looks possible that they might be in on results day. If your DC is interested and has a UCAT over 2620, with a minimum of 500 in each section, they should prepare to try to call as early as possible on results day. Historically a lot of their Clearing offers have been for deferred entry, which is great if SGUL is a favourite option, but possibly not if it was just an attempt to get in quickly. However, interview practice is good for anybody and SGUL appear to have an odd system where they send you the interview questions and you upload video answers.

chesirecat99 · 26/07/2021 14:53

I believe St George's always have places in clearing on results day. It's part of their strategy to keep places open to widen their recruitment net so they have the pick of all the excellent candidates who haven't secured a place elsewhere like @SATSmadness DD and @Iamsodonewith2020 DS.

In normal years, SGUL emphasise work experience and what the student has learned from it as one of their main criteria for making offers. The work experience requirement (usually they have a set minimum number of hours) has been dropped due to COVID but it is worth bearing in mind when preparing for interview as a pointer to what types of questions might come up and what SGUL look for in candidates, if anyone is considering applying through clearing.

LaLaFlottes · 03/08/2021 16:28

Hi All,
Hope everyone is holding up ok and enjoying the summer?
I was just wondering - on results day, will their offers update on UCAS Track even if their DBS and Health Checks are still being processed?

Obviously their offers depend on these things too - but will UCAS updates just be based on exam results?

Sorry if this is a silly question. I've reached the stage of over thinking everything Sad

mumsneedwine · 03/08/2021 16:52

@LaLaFlottes yes, UCAS just based on results (if you've not filled in a required form the Uni should have chased by now). Good luck !

LaLaFlottes · 03/08/2021 17:07

Thanks @mumsneedwine that's good to know it's just exam results that affect changes on track.

She's filled in her forms so I think she's all good. Some people have had confirmation back from the University apparently, and some have not - but I guess they have loads to process so it seems to be ongoing!

mumsneedwine · 03/08/2021 18:13

@LaLaFlottes can always email them if worried. They always seem to be v nice in admissions offices.

LaLaFlottes · 03/08/2021 18:20

@mumsneedwine thanks! I think they've said admissions are closed now until after results day so they can deal with the results!

To be fair, she does know that Occupational Health have sent her certificate to the University because she called and checked that they had received her form, so hopefully it's all in hand.

I just wanted to check that the fact the University might not have updated her file yet wouldn't affect track updating as that may well be the first place she can see if she's got the grades or not!

LaLaFlottes · 03/08/2021 18:31

Apparently she has an acknowledgment of her DBS too. So all she doesn’t have is an email from the University confirming her health clearance, but she knows occupational health have cleared her and told the Uni.

So I am definitely over thinking things - can you tell I’m starting to feel stressed?!

DD has gone away to see her boyfriend for a few days so at least I’m not stressing her out too!

Monkey2001 · 03/08/2021 20:00

@lalaflottes, nothing wrong with planning! I think the thing is not to panic if it still says "conditional" on UCAS as gap year applicants get conditional offers at some places. I assume that if she had not been accepted it would say something which made it obvious. So, I would say don't panic if the status doesn't change!

LaLaFlottes · 03/08/2021 20:40

Thanks @Monkey2001 Smile
That’s true - it would show her as unsuccessful as released into clearing I think if she doesn’t get the grades - so if it doesn’t change we won’t panic!!

Honestly - I’ve done quite well over the summer and managed to keep calm but I’m starting to feel all anxious again. DD luckily seems quite calm so I will try my best to stop getting all antsy Grin

GANFYD · 03/08/2021 21:01

My eldest son's UCAS Track still showed Conditional despite him exceeding his grades - when we called, it was indeed an issue with Occ Health, and I was a bit annoyed they had not contacted him to clear it up prior to results day, as it affected his accommodation
LaLaFlottes · 03/08/2021 21:33

Thanks @GANFYD that must have been very annoying if it affected his accommodation.
I do at least know occupational health have sent confirmation to the university that she’s cleared so hopefully it will be ok but we will try not to panic if it doesn’t change on Tuesday!

GANFYD · 03/08/2021 21:37

Then I am sure it will be OK, as this was the hassle - OH had not informed admissions there were no issues - took 3 minutes to sort, as we rang them and they called admissions, but accommodation preferences had already been allocated. #2 was a bit of an anti-climax, as Track updated whilst he was going to get his results, so already knew they must be OK. We are nervously waiting here, too!
LaLaFlottes · 03/08/2021 22:00

I think DD knows of someone who has had an email from Uni confirming that they have clearance from Occupational Health - whereas DD doesn’t have that email - she just knows from calling Occ Health directly to check they had her info. Hopefully it’s all ok and they’ve just not sent everyone’s email yet!

The odd thing is also with their DBS - they have started the application but take their documents with them in September to be verified - rather than it all being done in advance. So everyone’s offer will also be depending on DBS clearance and nobody will have that!!

I’m glad it was straightforward to sort out for you - phew! Shame about accommodation though, that is really annoying.

#2’s experience sounds nice and calm - I’d take that thank you!!

Hope you are ok and not getting too nervous? It’s just this final period of waiting that’s stressful!

NoNotHimTheOtherOne · 03/08/2021 23:32

Track doesn't update by itself. Someone at the university has to switch you from CF to UF. That's why we get the results 5 days before you do. Changes made to UCAS records in that period aren't visible to the student until the embargo ends. If there's something still to be resolved (DBS/OH form not submitted, certificates not provided when requested, etc.), they might delay switching to UF. As others have said, though, this shouldn't be a surprise as you should have been chased before results day. It can become a bit of a nightmare for your insurance choice, too, as they won't know why you haven't gone UF and will have to keep you UI until your status with your firm choice changes. This means they can't risk offering the place to someone else.

LaLaFlottes · 03/08/2021 23:38

Thanks @NoNotHimTheOtherOne that’s good to understand the process. It must be an incredibly busy time for the admissions teams.

Hopefully all will be well - that does sound like a potential nightmare for insurance choices though and a shame if it hold up last minute offers to others.

It sounds like you work in a University - if you do - good luck with the next few days and thanks for explaining Smile

bimkom · 04/08/2021 09:20

So can somebody clarify for me. If one (or one's DS) has applied for a deferred place, ie for September 2022 - and has (we assume for that reason) not been asked to do a DBS check or an Occupational Health check, does UCAS update in any way next Tuesday? Or will it not update even if the grades are achieved because the DBS/OH check won't be done until August 2022? Thanks

MaddieElla · 04/08/2021 17:51

Eek DD has sorted her DBS and health check so I'm not sure what's happening there.

I do know her DBS certificate came in the post weeks ago. No instructions about what to do with it, I assume she just takes it with her on Day One.

I'll ask her about her health check when she gets home.

Gosh, it's all getting a bit nerve wracking now. All those months (years!) to get to this point and one more horrendous hurdle to go.

Good luck for Tuesday everyone. We are going on holiday the day after come what may!

LaLaFlottes · 04/08/2021 17:58

Hi @MaddieElla that’s good the DBS has come Smile for DD they had to start the application and then take their documents with them to be verified during intro week apparently so the process won’t be finished until they are (hopefully) already there!

@bimkom I don’t know how it works when they have deferred- sorry - but hopefully someone will be along who knows!

Powergower · 04/08/2021 19:04

Lots of nerves here, mainly mine! Ds dbs has arrived, all clear and he's been invited to an open evening to discuss starting at uni a few days after results. He seems to think he will be ok in the basis of all the info from uni but I've told him they're just getting organised and if you don't get the grades they won't be able to make offers. I just want it all over with now, I have a dc doing gcses too so it's going to be a fraught week. Fingers crossed for everyone here, let's hope we get over this final hurdle in what's been a very unpredictable and challenging year for our dc.
