chopc
Ds1 was impressed with Leicester because they sent lots of letters/info leaflets/postcards and e mails and "kept in touch" more than his other choices
I pointed out to him that that's just good PR and advertising!

MarchingFrogs · 04/03/2021 22:05

Is there a time limit on how long he can wait before accepting the other offers? dose he only accept 2? as in firm and back up? or accept all of them then make firm and back up?

To save you digging:

  • applicants have to wait until they have no replies outstanding before they can indicate their Firm and (if required) Insurance choices. So either wait for every university to respond or, if they already know what they want from what they have to date, withdraw their application. But !!! only the application to the individual university/ies, not their whole UCAS application.
  • the deadline for your DS to decide on Firm / Insurance will be 10th June, if he has had all his responses by 20th May, but a bit later if not - his personal response deadline will show on Track iirc.
  • once he sets his Firm / Insurance, any other offers 'disappear', but there is a short cooling-off period.

MarchingFrogs Thank you Smile

I'm girding my loins to apply for student finance today 😬

MarchingFrogs · 05/03/2021 09:22

Fortunately or unfortunately (depending on how you look at it), DS2 will only qualify for the non-means tested portion of the maintenance loan, so no need for DH and I to rummage for our own financial stuff. @Bee0808, your DS must have been very quick off the mark with his application, if you've already had a request for your details. I suspect DS2 will need a fair bit of prompting...

Bee0808 · 06/03/2021 11:44

Census and student finance application done ✔
The census took longer tbh
Thats all the life admin I can cope with this weekend 😬
Hope more offers are pouring in x

Bee0808 · 06/03/2021 11:44

frogs yes ds is "only" getting the basic loan so it was pretty quick

LeiatheSchnauzer · 06/03/2021 14:08

@Bee0808, that does sound incredibly exhausting, he must be relieved the end is in sight.
Might start looking at student finance too this weekend...

Bee0808 · 06/03/2021 15:04

He's having the weekend "off"
leia 😁
His coursework is all done now thank god and his finance application too....phew.

@SeasonFinale or anyone else that happens to know - will there be autumn resits again this year for anyone not happy with their TAG?

I wasn’t sure if I’d read that there was or not! DD is hoping everything will be fine but I just wondered!

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 07/03/2021 10:12

DS1 is thinking of withdrawing from the last uni he is waiting for (Warwick) as he is has picked his firm and insurance from his current offers and doesn’t think he will change. It is unlikely that Warwick will make him a lower offer than his current choices and he isn’t that fussed about going there.

He had an offer holders presentation at the uni he wants as insurance yesterday (Sheffield) and liked it. His first choice (Exeter) has always been the same so it was just the insurance that was the issue.

There doesn’t seem to be any value hanging on for Warwick. He is going to speak to the school on Monday.

LeiatheSchnauzer · 07/03/2021 11:13

@ChazsBrilliantAttitude, ds did that a few years ago with Nottingham. I think at the time he had to contact the uni to say he was withdrawing then once it was confirmed on track he could firm and insure. It took a day or so.

Yes there will be resits in autumn 2021 which will work the same way as autumn 2020 and will not count as resits for the purposes of courses that require exam results to be achieved in one sitting and a replacement certificate can be requested to reflect the higher grades.

As usual they can also resit in summer 2022 but this would be classed as a resit. There would be no replacement certficate for any exam "retaken" then.

He doesn't even need to do that anymore. He can merely withdraw his application himself on track, then select his firm and insurance. We have had a few do this because they are certain about their choices.

DahliaMacNamara · 07/03/2021 11:54

DD has now withdrawn from the one she was waiting for, on the same grounds as Chaz's DS, but without speaking to the school.
I'm not sure I'm ready to grapple with student finance yet.

BrideofBideford · 07/03/2021 12:10

Anyone heard from Imperial yet? Or Bristol?

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 07/03/2021 12:56

Thanks. It’s good to know others have done this. I think he just wants it all finalised and to put his accommodation application in. Then he can just focus on work.

pepperaunt · 07/03/2021 12:59

D’s got an Imperial offer in early January but it was for 3A* (Physics) so essentially too shockingly high to be considered good news!Shock

BrideofBideford · 07/03/2021 17:49

Wow @pepperaunt Shock

DS is waiting for Aeronautical Engineering

pepperaunt · 08/03/2021 14:00

Good luck to your DS @BrideofBideford!

TheStirrer · 08/03/2021 17:19

Hmm - daughter just messaged re her Sheffield application for structural engineering with architecture. She has been asked to provide a portfolio by 3 May - surely this can’t be right? I thought they needed to offer by the 20th May and students need to firm by the 10th so seems very tight....
She has also applied to us unis and will hear on the 6th April and they want acceptances by 5th May so all getting a bit stressful.
I feel so sorry for our kids - IB are limiting grades unlike A levels and then there is the worry waiting for offers Shock

TheStirrer · 08/03/2021 17:21

Missed our the “June” for accepting offer.....

Bee0808 · 08/03/2021 17:23

That does seem tight thestirrer

MarchingFrogs · 08/03/2021 17:51

@TheStirrer, would it be worth your DD asking whether the portfolios are to be looked at as a 'gathered field', or looked at individually as received (that is, if she submits her portfolio by the end of this month, say, would she be likely to have a response sooner than early May)?

TheStirrer · 08/03/2021 19:09

@MarchingFrogs - that’s a really good suggestion - I will get her to email. I am hoping that this is semi good news in that she might have jumped the engineering hurdle and it did say they would consider for architectural engineering if portfolio not good enough....
