Place at Portsmouth confirmed. So pleased. Off to college soon to get the actual results.
Well done everyone

mumsneedwine · 10/08/2021 09:17

@boys3 needs to be 🥂 this morning. Well done everyone.

I'm at school hugging everyone (with a mask I promise). I've cried too much already.

NewYearNewTwatName · 10/08/2021 09:19

He's rang! got his predicted grades 🍾
but hasn't check ucas yet, fingers crossed that should be fine as the grades needed were below his predicted.

hope all works out for everyones DC

LeiatheSchnauzer · 10/08/2021 09:27

Email from school with results and track confirmed that she is into Durham. Massive joy and relief here today. Just waiting to hear some of her friend's results still.

ShaunaTheSheep · 10/08/2021 09:59

All good here, firm confirmed Smile

minesawine · 10/08/2021 11:23

Well done everyone.

@Zorinindustries your DC will be joining my DD. What are they studying and where are they staying?

Zorinindustries · 10/08/2021 12:14

@minesawine. She is doing early childhood studies. But will be living at home, we are in Portsmouth.

minesawine · 10/08/2021 13:00

@Zorinindustries My DD will be staying in Catherine House. Its huge and looks like a real party house. She is very happy

Zorinindustries · 10/08/2021 13:18

Oh, that's the new huge black building. Hope she likes it.

minesawine · 10/08/2021 13:33

Yes it is huge. I think she is more interested in the partying than study. She will have an amazing time, Portsmouth is lovely

minesawine · 30/08/2021 08:55

Is anyone getting nervous or excited about their DC's going off to uni. I have 4 weeks to go and feel sick when I think of my DD leaving.

chopc · 30/08/2021 09:13

I am more excited for him than sad at the moment. I think the reality will hit after we drop him off

MarchingFrogs · 30/08/2021 09:36

DS2 goes to UEA on the 19th, arrival time either not yet confirmed or merely not communicated to the chauffeuse. Ho hum. Only 100 miles, though (closer than his siblings, who will be in Birmingham and - hopefully - Aix-en-Provence, respectively). He is very excited about the course, university and city, so I hope they all live up to his expectations.

vjg13 · 30/08/2021 10:42

I'm excited for my daughter too and hope she enjoys it and makes the most from it. The reality of her not being here will hit me after I'm sure but want to work on my fitness/wellbeing and generally become version 2.0 after a pretty shit year.

fayebebaby · 30/08/2021 11:12

My daughter is off to Sheffield in the 19th arrival time is booked !!! Been very impressed with Sheffield so far especially as she ended up in clearing

boys3 · 30/08/2021 18:14

excited about getting the space back - two of them heading off, finalist back to UEA, whilst DS3 is heading to Aber which is quite a trek. Although not so far as Aix; which if I remember rightly from spending a couple of summers in Marseille is quite delightful. Or at least that was the (post) impression I had at the time.

Quick question about what size duvet to send DS off to halls with...

He only has a single bed in his halls although it maybe 190cm or 200cm long. We won't know until he gets there.

He has a king-sized bed at home so that's going to be a bit of a change for him ! He'll be fine obviously but I wondered whether it might it be worth sending a double duvet even though it's a single bed just so there's a bit more duvet to go round... or would it be a total pain to have one that size?

What size duvets are you all sending your DC's with?

Stillcrikey · 05/09/2021 17:54

DS has a single in halls and is taking a double duvet. I figure it gives better ‘coverage’ and if it’s cold, he can double up. If it’s a pain, he can always swap for a single at some point but hopefully in 2nd year he will have a double, so save us buying again. We have no single beds at home.

doistayordoigo · 05/09/2021 20:48

DS will have a single bed at uni, and will be going with a single duvet. We tried a double duvet on his single bed at home, and it was forever trailing across the floor causing a trip hazard in a small room, and we ended up swapping back.

vjg13 · 09/09/2021 09:30

My daughter is taking a single for her single bed. The hall of residence bed is also weirdly long 6 ft 9 inches but did find somewhere for fitted sheets, mattress topper and protector.

NewYearNewTwatName · 17/09/2021 09:46

hows everyones DC getting on? I know a few have moved into halls already, how you feeling?

We are taking DS tomorrow, I'm now getting a bit wobbly about it. It just mainly worry about how he'll get on and manage situations.

He's suffered from A&D in the past, and has been through CAMHs and was on AD until recently, he's also undiagnosed but suspected by CAMHS as autistic.

He's looking forward to it but at the same time has been putting off thinking too much about it.

He has no idea who his flat mates will be, but is on a WhatsApp group with 30 others on his course.

We seem to be taking a lot of stuff tomorrow 😬

doistayordoigo · 17/09/2021 10:06

We're off tomorrow too, echo having loads of stuff! I think DS is starting to feel the nerves a bit, as he kept me up until 1am last night chatting. He's in group chat with his flatmates and some from his course, so hopefully as well prepared as he can be. I just keep reminding him that everyone is in the same boat, nobody knows anyone yet and to get out and join societies etc to widen the net for potential friends as mush as possible.

minesawine · 17/09/2021 10:22

This time next week she will be gone. My DS went on Monday to his uni so its been lovely spending time with just my DD. I think next Saturday I will wake up and either think this is the life, no children - Yay! or its too quiet and I want my babies back Smile

NewYearNewTwatName · 17/09/2021 10:32

doistayordoigo
yeah I keep reiterating, everyone will be feeling the same even if they don't show it.

minesawine oh two gone in 2 weeks, that will be an adjustment for you. I take your DS is settling in fine then Smile

DS time table came through and much to his relief it almost all face to face with the odd online every couple of weeks.

minesawine · 17/09/2021 10:48

@NewYearNewTwatName it has been strange. My DS is going into his final year in NTU so I am used to one not being around, but not two. I keep getting told that its only for a year as he finishes in June so I must take the time for myself and to have some child-free fun!
