Will they make the grades? How will grades be awarded anyway? What the hell are Cambridge up to with that nasty little clause?

RunnersTipple · 10/08/2021 08:47

No results yet, but Tack has confirmed DS's place for Cambridge. So relieved.

pepperaunt · 10/08/2021 08:50

Cambridge confirmed DDs offer! Grades just now posted on school portal. I hope this means an end to the family stress dreams…

Chilldonaldchill · 10/08/2021 08:50

DD hasn't managed to get into track but the email from school has come and confirmed her grades. Very happy and excited for September.

DottyHarmer · 10/08/2021 08:52

Dd confirmed! Though she is grumping around saying that everyone will just go on about grade inflation. Some people are never satisfied….

DahliaMacNamara · 10/08/2021 09:07

DD got onto track at the exact right time to see her place confirmed.
What's next? Can I go to sleep now? (Unlikely)

pepperaunt · 10/08/2021 09:11

Just going to ask that. Now that it’s “official” on Track does she have to do anything else (clueless American)

Unescorted · 10/08/2021 09:14

Dahlia if you were anything like me you spent the next couple of weeks going out for spurious reasons in the hope of bumping into someone I had yet to mention it to in passing (casual like Wink) Grin.

We also drank a lot of champagne and went shopping for essentials (most of which were not used)

Hoghgyni · 10/08/2021 09:23

On the off change that anyone is disappointed with their grades today, but delighted with their confirmed place, please don't let imposter syndrome set in. DD's year were told that their A level grades were irrelevant once they were there. They had all been selected for their potential and were all capable of getting a first.

Nobledeedsandhotbaths · 10/08/2021 09:49

Hoghayni thank you, that is just what we needed to hear. Grades good but not perfect (just seen someone on Twitter who has got 5 A* and 1 A😮) and imposter syndrome setting in already. Congratulations to everyone, been lurking here for a couple of weeks but seemed like tempting fate to post!

Better get my nice frock on and maybe shave my legs. Maybe the dog would like another walk around the block for now.

Really pleased to read everyone's good news. This has been an incredibly difficult 18months, and our young people have done fantastically. I don't think I'd have managed in similar circumstances.

Jalfrezi · 10/08/2021 09:58

3 x A stars and place confirmed for DD here too. Now I really can start planning and imagining her there.
So pleased for everyone's news. They will all have the most amazing time.

Hoghgyni · 10/08/2021 10:05

Noble DD & I were discussing this yesterday. She was heartbroken on results day last year, despite having met her offer. Everyone there knows that everyone deserves there place.

Unescorted · 10/08/2021 10:14

Hog - too true.

Malbecfan · 10/08/2021 11:44

This was us 4 years ago. Congratulations to all successful DC and commiserations to those on another path. Enjoy the next few days. I think the DC will get emails from their colleges with more information, then hopefully their college parents will get in touch.

Strange to think that my DD may well be someone's supervisor from October Shock

NiamCinnOir · 10/08/2021 11:53

DD’s place at Oxford for MFL confirmed, happy and relieved. Having had approximately an hour’s sleep last night she’s headed back to bed! Huge congratulations to all your dc, what a crazy rollercoaster of a year it’s been.

whiteroseredrose · 10/08/2021 11:55

DD also has her Oxford place confirmed. Relief all round. Unfortunately her amazing friend didn't get Cambridge maths due to Step. Real dampener.

NiamCinnOir · 10/08/2021 11:59

Congratulations to your DD @whiteroseredrose! STEP sounds like the devil’s work to me Angry

I got into Oxford!

Although this is me, my EPQ grade wasn’t quite what I would have personally wanted but given that it was submitted incomplete due to illness I’ll take it. Just worried I’ll be judged seeing as it’s seen as both university style work and fairly easy - my question was my degree subject so the imposter syndrome is real here Blush

DeRigueurMortis · 10/08/2021 13:37

Well another household here that's fallen victim to STEP.

He got the A Level (4 x A star) and the grade 1 in STEP 3 but not STEP 2.

He's been pooled, so we've got a potential 3 day wait, but realistically the chances of getting "fished" are incredibly low, so he's almost certainly going to his insurance.

Congratulations to all of your children who met their offers. Genuinely pleased/thrilled for you.

4 AStars is the best result I've heard today. Wonderful news - and something to be proud of. Keeping my fingers crossed for you and yours.
DeRigueurMortis · 10/08/2021 14:20

Thank you.

Yes we are very proud, unfortunately he's quite disappointed ☹️.

TheFrendo · 10/08/2021 14:40

DD has place confirmed. So all good. Thankfully no STEP required for English.

DeRigueurMortis, what a roller-coaster for your DS. Properly brutal.

Chilldonaldchill · 10/08/2021 14:47

@DeRigueurMortis I'm so sorry to hear that. I really hope that he does get taken from the pool.

Jalfrezi · 10/08/2021 14:58

That's truly gutting for him @DeRigueurMortis especially after such stellar grades. I mean 4 x A stars is bloody exceptional. Will keep fingers crossed that he gets fished from the pool. Big hugs to you all, he really has done amazingly well and I'm sorry it not the news he hoped for this morning but it's not all lost yet. Where is his insurance?
