Previous thread - Obvs the end of term is looming sooner for some than for others? I guess the Oxbridge posse will finish by the end of November or just into December?

Mines doing ok with the laundry - does and 40min wash bunging it all in together the. @40mins to dry . It can get crowded and some forget to pick up their washing - she’s taken the lead on occasion and taken others stuff out at times .
Took some food goodies up for her in a wheely bag which she was all :) . Her friends laughed when she told them I was bringing broccoli , carrots and fruit ! We did nip into Tesco on she way back from a welcome pub Sunday roast to her college - pizza express pizza £2 ! ( special offer but still way cheaper than my local )

Alicatz66 · 05/11/2019 12:15

Good idea @WaxOnFeckOff !!!! No more white will be purchased !!! ... I think he must be making a bit of an effort to cook as he's asked for a rice cooker for Xmas !!!
Does anyone have one ? I'm thinking of getting one myself to stop me being a lazy cow and microwaving pouches !

WaxOnFeckOff · 05/11/2019 12:45

To be fair, ds mostly wears band t shirts which are generally dark anyway. He has a few lighter coloured things that I insisted he have for abroad holidays, but we kept those at home.

bigTillyMint · 05/11/2019 13:02

@simbobs, glad my DS isn't the only one who failed to pick up his GCSE certificates!

WaxOnFeckOff · 05/11/2019 13:21

I didn't realise you guys didn't get results/certificates sent out to your homes on results day. I've obviously seen the news things where pupils go into school to get their results but I thought that was just a media stunt thing.

justasking111 · 05/11/2019 13:27

Mine is doing fine with the laundry even separating colours from whites. What he is fed up with is cooking, so quite a few takeaways or simple throw together meals.

blametheparents · 05/11/2019 13:53

@WaxOnFeckOff - When students go in to school to collect their results they are just picking up a list of the results from the school. The certificates themselves come later - after remarks etc.

simbobs · 05/11/2019 14:00

In our are they have to go in and get their results or leave a stamped addressed envelope. @bigTillyMint officially the school is supposed to send the certificates back to the exam board and the student then has to pay to get them.

WaxOnFeckOff · 05/11/2019 14:12

Ah okay, ours get their results and certificates sent out on results day. Very few results get changed, if they do, a fresh certificate is issued. The newest ones list all exams passed regardless of which year they were passed in.

Benjispruce · 05/11/2019 15:30

DD’s certificates are available to collect from school in December over a few days, luckily after her term ends at uni.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 05/11/2019 17:13

I was under the impression that certificates were available from November (but it might be in a week's time, if memory serves me correctly). DS could have signed a letter authorising me to collect them on his behalf, but as he's got to take something in (a task that should have been done when he picked up his results) anyway, he might as well pick them up himself.

@juicy0, @Sluj, @CointreaVersial (and any other parents on the UEA specific thread). I am getting some type of weird error message for the thread - anyone else not able to access it?

OP posts:
juicy0 · 05/11/2019 17:31

@NewModelArmyMayhem18 I can access it via the app on my phone 🤔

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 05/11/2019 18:00

Thanks for answering my query @juicy0 - I'm on my PC so maybe that's the issue. Sighs.

A number of universities are going on strike, lecturers and support staff from November 25th to December 4th. I found a list in the press.

www.birminghammail.co.uk/news/midlands-news/staff-strike-60-uk-universities-17205167

Ginfordinner · 05/11/2019 19:47

Oh dear Newcastle is on the list.

minesawine · 05/11/2019 19:51

Anyones DC started house hunting for year 2 yet? Mine has not started yet and I'm worried that all the good properties will go quickly. He hasn't got a really close group of mates and doesn't know who to ask. I don't know how to help him. Any advice please

Decorhate · 05/11/2019 20:05

Both my kids unis are on that list. I think last time dd wasn’t affected though as her lecturers were in a different union.

WaxOnFeckOff · 05/11/2019 20:48

both DSs unis on the list too.

Alicatz66 · 05/11/2019 20:54

@minesawine .. my DS is in Nottingham and hasn't even thought about where to live next year ... he gets on well with the flatmates he has now ... but I don't think any of them have thought about it !!! ...

blametheparents · 06/11/2019 07:17

DS is in Nottingham too - they are looking at their first property today. Seems to be quite a lot available in Nottingham - we've given him a max budget and there seems to be a lot in that price range. Any problems with finances, and he knows he can discuss it with us. Lenton appears to be the area of choice for Nottingham undergrads.

bigTillyMint · 06/11/2019 07:24

Re strikes, both DC unis on that list Sad DD was very badly hit by the strikes the last time and was very upset to both lose (the paltry amount Arts students get) teaching time and not get any compensation for it. But at least it was her first year - she's final year now....

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 06/11/2019 10:26

UEA doesn't seem to be involved in the strikes, thankfully.

OP posts:
ifonly4 · 06/11/2019 11:19

minesawine DD hasn't started looking, although, they're have been talks from the start about one group sharing and recently her flatmate has mentioned her going in with them and another girl. I'd be surprised if anything was sorted out before Christmas.

DD's uni on list.

Itscoldouthere · 06/11/2019 11:29

@NewModelArmyMayhem18 UEA seemed to be at the bottom in a separate list of just 3 unis related to pension strikes, but I don’t know what that means ?
