Previous thread. Possibly a little precipitous but for some of our DC their university start date is only just over a fortnight away. Yikes!

Placemarking!

Lots of admin to do here, particularly choosing course modules which makes it all feel v real and focussing DD’s attention on the fact that it’s not just about booking exciting Freshers events - there is a bit of studying involved too!

Madhairday · 27/08/2019 10:10

Thanks for the thread! Love the stories, reminds me of DHs hall where one student insisted on playing Seal's 'Kiss from a rose' on repeat, on full volume, in the early hours every night for a week. We were not amused.

In limbo here as we wait for accomodation to be confirmed, then we can plan finances properly. DD has sent in registration forms and they seem happy with the selfie she sent (she had to spend an hour on hair and makeup first Hmm )

while we're here - is there any way to set up mumsnet forums so when I click on a thread it goes to the most recently viewed post rather than just the first page?

JennyWreny · 27/08/2019 10:45

@MrKlaw are you using the “I’m on” button? If so, click on the text of the post rather than the thread title.

Ingles2 · 27/08/2019 10:50

yes @MrsKlaw click on the 3 dots... on a laptop its bottom right of the post and click bookmark,.. it'll take you to that saved point.. :)

Ingles2 · 27/08/2019 10:51

apologies... I remembered it was @MrKlaw as it was posting...

icanbewhatiwant · 27/08/2019 12:45

I am on iPhone on the app. If I slide the message across to the left the option comes up to bookmark the last post I read.

RedHelenB · 27/08/2019 16:45

Done the IKEA shop and almost 100 quid lighter we ve got most of what she want, including rug for her floor..

Decorhate · 27/08/2019 16:46

Ds has had his review of marking back for one of his Biology papers. (He was one mark off a B). Unfortunately it went down by one mark so not sure if it’s worth risking getting the other papers marked now. Hey ho. His school had actually suggested dropping Biology & concentrating on the other 3 but all along Biology was his strongest subject.

Benjispruce · 27/08/2019 17:00

Dec that’s a shame. Which exam board? AQA?

Decorhate · 27/08/2019 17:09

No, OCR

Benjispruce · 27/08/2019 17:25

DD is waiting to hear from AQA as her biology was 1 mark off an A.

boys3 · 27/08/2019 17:26

@redhelen got a small IKEA rug for DS2 a while back - discovered at the weekend though that at UEA rugs are banned in halls. ???? seriously Shock If fact UEA have a major downer on soft furnishings in general. This came as a bit of a surprise - no issue for DS1 when he was at Uni, albeit not UEA. Might be worth a double check at the Uni your DC heading to.

The more amusing hall Ts&Cs at UEA is

Ensure that the shower is run no less frequently than every 7 days in their shower pod/shower room/en suite in the Room, house or flat as appropriate now I think this is to reduce any risk of legionella, however I'd hope any DC would wash on a rather more frequent basis. Grin

Benjispruce · 27/08/2019 17:28

Anyone know how long it takes to hear from AQA? We heard from Edexcl last Wednesday.

captainoftheshipwreck · 27/08/2019 17:40

Just wondering if Andrea is still there- Piggy did you ever actually witness her emerging from the wardrobe?

errorofjudgement · 27/08/2019 18:34

I haven’t posted on this latest thread as to be honest I feel a bit homeless as DD is taking a gap year,
But, DD has just had her OCR English Lit remarked and has gone up to an A.
I’m so pleased for her, Ive burst into tears!! She was so disappointed to have missed her grade but now she’s totally buzzing Smile

Piggywaspushed · 27/08/2019 18:37

That's great news with those tight grade boundaries!

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 27/08/2019 18:38

That's a great outcome for your DD @errorofjudgement. How many marks off was she? When did you put in for the revie wo fmarking? You must all be thrilled. (Asking because DS put in for his History (Warfare) to be remarked last Tuesday and still not heard back)

Piggywaspushed · 27/08/2019 18:39

Andrea did emerge. She went to live in a rented house in second year. We did a different course and I am not sure I ever saw her again! I did bump into someone else from my block in Tescos a few years ago, though, which was weird!

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 27/08/2019 18:42

Is your DD still after going to drama school @errorofjudgement?

OP posts:
Piggywaspushed · 27/08/2019 18:42

Scrolling backwards. Sorry about your remark news decor. I still await Spanish with the opposite
of baited breath.

Is it baited or bated? I only learnt recently that it is bale out, not bail. According to Kate Atkinson.

juicy0 · 27/08/2019 18:44

@errorofjudgement congrats that's fabulous news 👏🏻🥂

errorofjudgement · 27/08/2019 18:44

Thank you x😁
@NewModelArmyMayhem18 - Re-mark put in on Thursday, and result back today

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 27/08/2019 18:47

@Piggywaspushed I only recently discovered it was genning up on something rather than gemming up on... You learn something new every day!!!

I reckon it's bated breath?

Sorry to hear that your remark news wasn't positive @Decorhate. Have to say that after DS's terrible luck (or lack of it) with GCSE remarks and the fortune we spent, clearly unwisely I am not holding out much hope. BUT he is only four marks off an A and one of his school friends went up eight marks on the same paper. We live in hope.

Good luck for your DS too @Piggy.
