Previous thread. Possibly a little precipitous but for some of our DC their university start date is only just over a fortnight away. Yikes!

The railcard photo, I had to take further away and then it cropped in on his face automatically.

Piggywaspushed · 26/08/2019 19:05

Things were actually so much easier before technology...

Benjispruce · 26/08/2019 19:11

Just asked DH which 3 words he’d use to describe DD and he said sociable, untidy, opinionated Grin

Propertyfaux · 26/08/2019 19:13

Oh I don’t know, live technology did DS passport on line 2 weeks ago and got a shiny new passport in 8 days.

bigTillyMint · 26/08/2019 19:17

I can't remember what we finally plumped for but sociable was one for DS. We discussed dozy, but didn't think it painted a good picture of a motivated student Grin

Piggywaspushed · 26/08/2019 19:19

Luckily mine hasn't been asked: ant-social, grumpy and lazy might not be very good adjectives...

Benjispruce · 26/08/2019 19:23
Grin

The mind boggles at how anyone in accommodation services can hope to match like minded people on a 3 word basis.
Glad its v random where dd is going!

bigTillyMint · 26/08/2019 19:27

I think it's pretty difficult to match students full stop. And some are easier-hoing than others... DD was very lucky to get matched with flatmates she got on well with and has continued to live with - I think they should make it as easy as possible to swap flats where necessary.

bigTillyMint · 26/08/2019 19:27

Easier-going, not hoing obvs BlushGrin

Piggywaspushed · 26/08/2019 19:46

Well, yours can be easier hoing while mine is being ant-social...

Witchend · 26/08/2019 19:48

I think it's very difficult to match even from longer amounts.

DD said her group was discussing whether to put down "quieter" flat. Most people were saying that they would prefer a quieter flat, as opposed to a partying all night one, but some people didn't want to put that down in case they ended up in a flat where no one came out and talked...

Piggywaspushed · 26/08/2019 19:49

Your thoughts about hot water bottles and boots reminds me of PP who said snow boots were a necessity at St Andrews. where it never snows Southerners,eh?! Grin

Benjispruce · 26/08/2019 19:55

DD is STILL asleep so I think that’s her until tomorrow. Might get some answers about what she’s done so far, then.

Benjispruce · 26/08/2019 19:59

DD likes to be sociable and will go out clubbing but not that often. She’s let her down a bit since exams finished but when she’s studying she’s quite disciplined. She wouldn’t want to be around non-stop party people but I guess that apart from freshers , Durham students would be quite studious. Am I being incredibly naive?

Witchend · 26/08/2019 19:59

Piggy dd is known for wearing 2 coats when everyone else in in shorts and t-shirts.

Benjispruce · 26/08/2019 19:59
  • Freshers week
ZandathePanda · 26/08/2019 20:14

Benji The party ones at Durham are very familiar with the last train times from Newcastle Wink

Piggywaspushed · 26/08/2019 20:15

Now, this was a long time ago but I played a hockey match against Durham and many of them spent the match subbing themselves off to go and puke in some bushes...

But , then, that's a hockey team for you!

Benjispruce · 26/08/2019 20:16

Ha ha ok, thanks.

Witchend · 26/08/2019 20:16

Benjispruce I suspect on average they'll be more studious.
However not everyone. Then you might get a different style of noisy. I was 2 doors down form someone who liked to play opera at about top volume in my first year. Luckily he didn't do it too often. Grin

Piggywaspushed · 26/08/2019 20:20

I am having flashbacks to shagging Andrea in the room next to me. We had 'split double' rooms : doubles that had been divided into singles by putting in a little corridor and then a wardrobe in the remaining room space to divide the rooms. Needless to say, this was not soundproof. What with shagging Andrea and the toilets next door, opera would have been preferable....

Benjispruce · 26/08/2019 20:22

Lol you poor thing!

Witchend · 26/08/2019 20:23

Grin Piggy You could have used opera to drown the noise. I'm sure no one would have guessed.

"What's that noise?"
"Sounds like music from Carman"
"Piggy must be shagging Andrea again" Grin

Dd2 back from Leeds fest too, her smoky stuff has all been washed and dried and she has looked at her emails. Santander account all set up online, her minor studies option has been acknowledged, she needs to scan her report for disability services and book a time slot for hall arrival
