Previous thread. Possibly a little precipitous but for some of our DC their university start date is only just over a fortnight away. Yikes!

I got this clothes horse which slides wide and narrow so packs up small. I bought it in Sainsbury’s but here it is in Wilkos

Might also get a radiator one like this and DD can choose. She is doing engineering but is also stressed about going. Bless her.

Obviously you do need a radiator for that one. I can see one in the photo on the uni website.

MrKlaw · 05/09/2019 08:33

I avoided both Radiator and door hanging ones after checking 360 photos of rooms. Doors seem to all have the big metal hinge to auto close the door and well sealed (fire doors), plus coat hooks which would get in the way. Radiators seemed so tiny I'm not sure a hanger would fit.

Went with a tall pole style as there looked to be so little floor space available. And don't forget one of those flip out things with tons of pegs on for hanging socks etc

ProfessorLayton1 · 05/09/2019 08:59

Probably better to check the room before buying anything...

The reality of moving away had not sunk in yet... I am usually calm but starting to fret a bit now as it is barely three weeks to go!

She wanted to go to IKEA as everyone goes there apparently. When asked what she wanted to buy there - she said some furniture for my room and some sweets 😂

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 05/09/2019 09:02

@ProfessorLayton1 I get your DD's drift!!! DS got ridiculously excited when we brought back 'Bilal' (little cars in different pastel colours) sweets from our last trip to IKEA, earlier on this summer. Good to know that they can still derive such pleasure from the simple things of life!

@Newmodel
That's exactly the sweet she likes and she bought 5 of them!!

ProfessorLayton1 · 05/09/2019 09:07

That's really true... she has not bought any new clothes either as she reckons that what she has is enough!

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 05/09/2019 10:26

@ProfessorLayton1 Grin. Maybe the thing to do is buy loads of packets to put in a big bowl for all flatmates to share on arrival at university!!!

@ProfessorLayton1 moving in day is two weeks this weekend for us (and we still don't know his accommodation!). So two weekends to get what needs to be got, maybe a nice meal etc.

justasking111 · 05/09/2019 13:20

ggrrr. DS off work today, asked nicely twice if he would like to come down and cook his lunch. Third time shouted up junior get your arse down here and fix your lunch. He has been spending 12 hours in bed getting headaches aka dehydration imo.

blametheparents · 05/09/2019 13:36

@justasking111 - I am starting to feel like it’s time they all headed to uni! DS is exactly the same! It’s been a looooonnngggg summer!
He did manage to clean his car yesterday, but only after a lot of nagging!
On the plus side - he worked 49 hours last week and earnt kids!

justasking111 · 05/09/2019 14:03

he does not know it yet, but is cooking a full roast tonight hee hee

MrKlaw · 05/09/2019 14:22

Feels like a lot of us are getting stir crazy.

ProfessorLayton1 · 05/09/2019 14:36

Went swimming and asked her to fix lunch for me before I came back as I thought that is the only way to make her do anything related to cooking!
Came back to toasted panini with mozzarella / tomato and Greek salad... awww, they can be good when they want to be.

justasking111 · 05/09/2019 14:37

Just shouted again, DS has oodles of money in his current account suggested politely for days that he sets up a deposit account so if his current account gets hacked he is not left broke. I would not leave 3k in a current account. Bloody idiot. I then want to set up a standing order for his santander account so that he can eat whilst at uni.

Is this too much to ask?? (bangs head)

Mustbetimeforachange · 05/09/2019 15:09

Mine isn't out of bed yet (3pm). I wonder how he will ever get to lectures. On the positive side DS1 who was an untamed as DS2 2 years ago made me a delicious Caesar salad with crispy bacon & chicken & crunchy home made croutons for lunch. There's hope, my friends, there's hope.

justasking111 · 05/09/2019 15:16

Well he made his own lunch. I left ingredients on side. He has set up a savings account instant transfer. I have set up a standing order to Santander for him. weekly, every Tuesday, beer money is his problem as long as he has food money. It means if he needs extra books equipment I can transfer the money to him.

Benjispruce · 05/09/2019 15:36

Just had a phone call from DD in Berlin to say she’d had an email from school-AQQ Biology upgraded from B to A!!! This is the second upgrade out of 3 subjects. She is over the moon. Gone from AAB to A*AA and the last A is awaiting a remark but 2 marks under not 1 like the others. Can’t believe 2 out of 3 have upgraded.

Manontry · 05/09/2019 15:40

Wow!! Amazing. Well done your dd!

ZandathePanda · 05/09/2019 16:13

Benji congratulations to your Dd!!

SoupDragon · 05/09/2019 16:14

I have dithered over the clothes airer as I read that some unis don't allow them?

DS2 isn't allowed one in his halls at Bristol. Nor is he allowed fireworks or fairy lights 🤔

Benjispruce · 05/09/2019 16:15

Thanks. So proud of her achievement. But Hmm at marking though!

SoupDragon · 05/09/2019 16:16

Everyone has a clothes horse

DS1 didn't and DS2 won't.

JennyWreny · 05/09/2019 16:16

Benji That's great news! Fingers crossed for the hat trick Smile

DD can have fairy lights but only if they are battery ones.

Piggywaspushed · 05/09/2019 16:19

Wow benji, that's great! It dies rather make you wonder what all these examiners couldn't see! What's her presentation like, out of interest?
