Previous thread. Possibly a little precipitous but for some of our DC their university start date is only just over a fortnight away. Yikes!

OP posts:
Benjispruce · 26/08/2019 17:40

Yes got a mattress protector.

bigTillyMint · 26/08/2019 17:49

@Benjispruce, DS is Collingwood too!

DD said she wished she had dark sheets and duvet covers (mainly due to TMI periods!) So I will deffo do that for DS. Mattress is a definite must. Just waiting to find out for sure the size of bed!

bigTillyMint · 26/08/2019 17:51

@Benjispruce, DS has done his personality form. It was funny trying to describe him in 3 words!

Also DD has a student account with Nationwide. But there aren't many branches...

Benjispruce · 26/08/2019 17:52

Oh wow Tilly it sounds great doesn’t it? Did you visit last year? I thought it had a relaxed, fun feel.

Benjispruce · 26/08/2019 17:54

Hmm she does all her banking online so hopefully won’t be a problem. I’m thinking dark sheets as I’m sick of the Turin Shroud every time she applies fake tan! Then again I won’t be washing them.... or will I ?

bigTillyMint · 26/08/2019 18:08

Lol at Turin shroud - not a problem with DS!

I haven't visited at all but he has been there loads this last year as his ex gf was there, so he knows what it's like although different college.
I didn't visit Bristol before DD went either (same scenario Grin)

Witchend · 26/08/2019 18:11

I think dd would have preferred 3 words to describe herself. I think it was 2500characters. She managed 500 and was worried it wasn't enough. I said it wasn't the sort of test it mattered and better to keep it short with what's important to her than fill it up with other things and find they've used the random not very important bit at the end to match her.

Benjispruce · 26/08/2019 18:11

It’s a lovely city. I know we visited during the heatwave last year and it was cooler there but beautiful and sunny. Trying not to have rose-tinted glasses as I know winters up there can be pretty fierce for us softy southerners Grin

Witchend · 26/08/2019 18:12

Dd doesn't do the cold well. On her I list she has blankets, hit water bottles, warm boots...

Benjispruce · 26/08/2019 18:14

Have no idea how DD will choose 3 words. I’d say sociable, music-loving and hard working. Be interesting to see what she comes up with.

Piggywaspushed · 26/08/2019 18:14

I am really struggling with ID. Lincoln rejected DSs passport photo because it wasn't clear enough! And now the railcard wants us to upload a passport style photo. How the hell does one do this electronically??

strawberrieshortcake · 26/08/2019 18:14

DD has over 6 weeks till her university starts so we’ve done barely anything. Her uni makes them send the registrar forms through the post, I thought it was all digital now? What was everyone else’s experience with registration forms.

Benjispruce · 26/08/2019 18:15

Yes got hot water bottle, she has one anyway. Tried to get the highest tog duvet but she said the rooms are hot! Hope she’s right.

bigTillyMint · 26/08/2019 18:16

DS was moaning about how cold it was in June Shock but we are in London and it's always warmer here...

I'd say hardworking was a given for Durham Grin Is she sporty too?

Benjispruce · 26/08/2019 18:17

Piggy I just took a photo of DDs school headshot and uploaded it online for railcard a few years ago. Was accepted.

Witchend · 26/08/2019 18:17

Probably depends on the college as to temperature of rooms.
Another reason DD liked JB as it's modern so less likely to be draughty.

Piggywaspushed · 26/08/2019 18:17

I dud thag with passpirt photo and it was rejected!

Piggywaspushed · 26/08/2019 18:18

Did that even...

Benjispruce · 26/08/2019 18:18

She’s not super sporty but likes the social aspect so would play netball for fun and go to the gym, try yoga etc but hasn’t played for her school team since 6th form.

Benjispruce · 26/08/2019 18:19

Try a different photo piggy.

Benjispruce · 26/08/2019 18:20

Yes I guess you’re right about hardworking being a given.

Piggywaspushed · 26/08/2019 18:21

I don't have any ... But will have to pin him against a wall. But I don't see how that will be better than a passport photo!!

Witchend · 26/08/2019 18:23

Can't believe they rejected a passport photo as not being clear!
Mind you my friend had her 2 Yo's passport photo rejected because her eyes were too close together. When she wrote back and asked if they were suggesting plastic surgery to alter that they suddenly found it was acceptable!

Dd would not be putting sociable or sporty.
I just hope she gets on well with the others in the flat.

bringbacksideburns · 26/08/2019 18:27

It's funny looking back at my uni experience. Didn't get grades needed so head teacher rang up and got me a place elsewhere at the last minute. I packed one suitcase and that was about it. Had never even seen the place or where I was staying. Got a lift with a friend
Don't think I even had a mug but luckily it was all catered. Just used to bung all my clothes in the bath with a box of acdo, as did everyone else Grin

Mind you this was in the eighties when we were all lucky to have full grants. And we even used to hitch in groups during second year before a friend got a car, which fills me with horror now.

It will be very different for DS.
I just hope he enjoys it. He got higher grades than he thought he would. He tried to do the online Santander thing but was flummoxed by the detailed monthly amounts so he will have to see someone. He also needs his dyspraxia assessment finalised for uni.
There's so much to do I'm trying not to panic. I can't remember my mum and dad doing anything!

icanbewhatiwant · 26/08/2019 18:51

I just put this on our UEA thread too...Ds reluctantly filled out the online registration forms earlier, all sorts of questions to answer like where he wanted to work after his studies, it asked whether parents had degrees etc. etc. He was answering questions for about 10 minutes, then it came up with an error message, it said the records showed he was already a student studying at UEA then all questions disappeared. An email address did come up on screen for contact. So he emailed telling about his error message. He also had a different link to follow, so he started filling that one in, but the page just locked up when he clicked next. He tried refresh and going back...no luck. After about 15 mins the laptop lid got slammed down and off ds went 😩
So we aren't doing very well.
