Previous thread. Possibly a little precipitous but for some of our DC their university start date is only just over a fortnight away. Yikes!

Tilly just asked DD about time slots and she says she’s had nothing. I read on their website that it will be busy in the city and there are over 400 going to Collingwood in the same day. Probably queueing , drop off DD and stuff then park as a pp said. We are going to drive up the night before and stay over.

WaxOnFeckOff · 30/08/2019 15:53

Ours says they are expecting 2000 students moving in and the halls are in an area with no through road and no timeslots, we are driving up in the morning but staying overnight before coming home. Told DS we were all bunking in his room with him (DS1 is coming with us for the run and the free dinner/breakfast). Grin

heading out for an early dinner shortly and then we'll start getting the car packed but it's peeing down and windy so not the best Sad. Weather to be atrocious tomorrow so allowing a bit longer for the drive.

Benjispruce · 30/08/2019 15:58

wax good grief, tomorrow?? Scotland?

ElizabethBennetismybestfriend · 30/08/2019 16:21

Piggy it was The Time Machine. Unfortunately not Dd’s sort of book so that might be the conversation starter.

WaxOnFeckOff · 30/08/2019 16:26

Benji yes, Aberdeen. I honestly thought it would be another week yet but here we are. Not really ready yet though his new bank card has arrived and we popped in to pay a couple of birthday cheques in. he bought another LP and a few plain black t-shirts. think that's so he can keep his musical tastes to himself (all his other t-shirts are band t-shirts) until he gets to know people :o Slab of Irn bru ready to go in the car along with many many boxes of instant mocha.

justasking111 · 30/08/2019 16:34

DS has dentist on Monday GP for jab on Tuesday the week he goes. After that he is fancy free.

Anyone having a family get together before their student flies the nest?

Piggywaspushed · 30/08/2019 16:48

Oh dear...I am not a Wells fan either! Never mind, still a nice idea!

bigTillyMint · 30/08/2019 16:53

@Benjispruce, yes that's what we are planning to do - maybe it'll just be queuing round the block?! At least he won't have as much as DD had as catered and he has less clothes Grin

I have just bought him new bedding from Primarni as all ours is for doubles. Came in to him deliberating over his module choices!

Ginfordinner · 30/08/2019 18:00

Yes justasking. We are off for a week on a Greek Island. Hopefully it will help mend DD's broken heart. (I have had to name change BTW. I like small Spanish snacks Grin)

GoldenRuby · 30/08/2019 18:06

@justasking111 yes, we are, next Sunday. Then he is having a gathering for friends the following weekend. His girl friend isnt going to uni, and some of his friends are a year younger, so most of the people coming aren't off on their own adventures just yet, but he seems to be positive and looking forward.

RedHelenB · 30/08/2019 18:34

All dds student bank stuff has arrived so now she's notified student finance her loan should hopefully be on time Just had a nice email from her accommodation toi saying dont worry about paying on date it can wait until loan us received.

WaxOnFeckOff · 30/08/2019 18:40

We were hoping to hijack Dneices 21st birthday bash tomorrow as a farewell of sorts but now we are in Aberdeen a week earlier than anticipated so missing that now and as family are all scattered, there is no opportunity to do anything else.

We've had a nice (early) meal out so just letting that go down for a little bit and then we'll get cracking on with the last of the packing.

JennyWreny · 30/08/2019 18:48

Good luck to your DS tomorrow WaxOnFeckOff Hope it all goes well Smile

Piggywaspushed · 30/08/2019 19:02

DH and I are both back at work on Monday and will be knackered (and in his case extraordinarily grumpy) and we have no family really so it will all be quiet with me manically shopping when I can.

Piggywaspushed · 30/08/2019 19:02

Good Luck tomorrow wax !

DrMadelineMaxwell · 30/08/2019 19:03

WaxOnFeckOff are you winding him up about crashing at his place? I assume you are. DD is only allowed one adult guest to be in her room and occasionally to stay over.

We have booked the local travelodge as it was decent enough on the open day, with a handy restuarant/pub attached that sold nice and cheap breakfast and evening meals for us.

Piggywaspushed · 30/08/2019 19:03

I am beginning to learn a lot about your culinary tastes gin !

DrMadelineMaxwell · 30/08/2019 19:04

Good luck. :)

I think very little remains to be bought. DD wants to take a sandwich toaster (and get it PAT tested there and keep it in her room sade when nit using it) but I'm wondering if a small George Foreman type grill will be more flexible for her. We use one at home frequently.

Ingles2 · 30/08/2019 19:11

Hey everyone 😊 ooo it’s getting exciting isn’t it! We’re off to IKEA on Sunday (for meatballs and chips) which makes me happy ..
Neither of my boys are at all experienced.. neither have had a girlfriend, though ds2 did go to a mixed 6th form. After the bank, I took them to do a big boots shop and bought both a box of condoms despite their protestations 😁

WaxOnFeckOff · 30/08/2019 19:12

Thanks all :) Yes, we were winding him up. There was no accommodation with space near the Uni or halls so we are in the city centre. Not sure if he will be joining us for dinner or not, we'll leave it to him. I guess technically his brother could bunk in with him rather than us but he'll probably be happy to be left to it.

bigTillyMint · 30/08/2019 19:22

Hope it goes well tomorrow wax!

Witchend · 30/08/2019 19:41

Good luck Wax
Does he finish early for the summer then? Dd's got another month to wait!

RedHelenB · 30/08/2019 19:45

@Ingles2 We had to go back to IKEA today to return a rug ( we had an appointment for dd1 and parked in their carpark) and naturally had to avail.ourselves if their culinary delights again!

JennyWreny · 30/08/2019 19:55

RedHelenB We were vaguely thinking of getting a rug from Ikea but not sure if it will get in the way of desk chair (if it's a wheel one). Do they have nice ones?

Ginfordinner · 30/08/2019 19:57

Grin @Piggywaspushed
And I know your literary taste.
