Previous thread. Possibly a little precipitous but for some of our DC their university start date is only just over a fortnight away. Yikes!

Laniakea lol!

DD had to take a photo for her uni ID pass. Wouldn't use passport photos as her hair is now a different colour obvs. Cue 2 hours in hair and make-up but I went out and came home to it being done , uploaded and accepted. I dread to think how many were taken before the chosen image was deemed acceptable. To DD not uni!

Piggywaspushed · 28/08/2019 17:48

Aw, thanks just !

Witchend · 28/08/2019 17:52

@Benjispruce
Edexcel

They have the advantage that the teachers get copies of all the exams. She'd asked to see them, thinking she'd have a quick glance through to see if there was anything that got those two extra marks, but hadn't got round to it.
Then she got a call from her further maths teacher to say that they'd looked at 3 of the papers and one of them looked like it definitely should go up 2 marks, one of them looked like it should go up definitely 1 and possibly 2, and one of them might go down 1.

I'm not sure when she'd got it back. She put it in around a week ago, but has been away for a week until this morning. Wretched child didn't tell me until I asked her if she'd heard anything!

It's the first time I've been impressed with anything done at her college, so that's a good thing. And I think it's given her confidence back which she lost when her year 12 further maths teacher kept telling her that she wasn't any good.

So she put the first into remark.
Apparently she'd multiplied a bracket out earlier in the working than the mark scheme showed and had been docked for accuracy. Hmm I think I dock that marker 2 marks for accuracy too Grin
Thay hadn't looked at the other papers.

Flying lad has bimbled off to work on his birthday. He loves his lego set and has been happily building his London bus. Have now got his timetable but he has a session at 9.00 am on a Monday which means getting back from Sunday night work very difficult. He needs to go and see if he can move his hours so more adulting to be done with me pushing. This is all exhausting!

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 28/08/2019 18:17

Sounds as if you had a productive day sussing out Lincoln @Piggywaspushed.

Happy Birthday to your DS @Flyingarcher.

Sounds as if your DD's teachers have been super helpful @Witchend. Fingers crossed for her.

Piggy Lincoln scored against Everton within the first 20 secs!

Piggywaspushed · 28/08/2019 20:37

I know! Everton have now scored. We did wonder whether Everton tired themselves out by ill advisedly walking up Steep Hill and then having a Nandos, perhaps.

This is a boring question BUT can anyone advise on what type of clothes storage you’ve bought your dc for uni? Is it one those flat pack ones that need a vacuum to blow it up? Or something else.

I’ve also lost the link to the lovely lamp someone posted (before results came out), it had colours etc and I think it was from eitherJL or amazon.

Thank you.

Piggywaspushed · 28/08/2019 21:02

No point in getting anything for DS. he has a floordrobe...

Piggywaspushed · 28/08/2019 21:03

A minor annoyance... we cannot find out when term ends at Lincoln. The website says 23 December with a disclaimer about differing dates.

Surely no uni finishes on Dec 23rd??

Shimy · 28/08/2019 21:11

Can you see if there’s an end date on his uni accomodation? If it says 23rd then that’s it.

Piggywaspushed · 28/08/2019 21:13

That was a good idea but it just says July 31st...

Shimy · 28/08/2019 21:16

Hmm..that when the academic yr ends I presume. Ds’s Accomodation has 3 separate dates for each session.

Piggywaspushed · 28/08/2019 21:18

I don't know why DH wants to know so much but it seems to be annoying him.

Shimy · 28/08/2019 21:23

Have you seen this:
Lincoln term dates scroll to the bottom.

It seems 23rd is when the holidays start. Bit odd I agree, I’ll check when ours is. DS sleeping right now so can’t get anything.

ZandathePanda · 28/08/2019 21:27

Shimy this lamp?
www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B01AP9HRLA/ref=ppx_yo_mob_b_inactive_ship_o0_img?psc=1&tag=mumsnetforu03-21&ie=UTF8
Dd has it but I think there’s a newer version now.

Piggywaspushed · 28/08/2019 21:29

Yes, that's where I am getting 23rd from . I reckon those are office opening hours. I am sure I have seen some YouTube videos where they go for a last day at the Christmas Market which is about December 8th.
It's a Monday, too..

We have tickets for a lovely thing at The Globe and to look at Spurs' new stadium on the 23rd...

Mustbetimeforachange · 28/08/2019 21:41

In my experience they usually finish mid December, this year that would be 13th December, but I guess they won't all be the same (some will be early December as well).

Benjispruce · 28/08/2019 21:43

Don’t they get a wardrobe in their rooms???

DrMadelineMaxwell · 28/08/2019 22:10

Yorks finished for Christmas on 6th Dec and goes back 6th Jan.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 28/08/2019 22:12

DS finishes on the 13th methinks. If they didn't finish until the 23rd and went back on the 5th of January, they would have a shorter Christmas break than schools, wouldn't they? Am aware that some terms are shorter than others (Oxbridge ones being just eight weeks) but thought that term lengths were generally more standardised now than they used to be. When I was a student, many moons ago, the polys used to have 13 week terms, contrasted with university ones which were on average only 10 weeks..

OP posts:
bigTillyMint · 28/08/2019 22:13

DD finished 13th December I think - that sounds a likely bet for most unis?

So in terms of re-marks, do they actually re-mark or just check that every bit of each question has been marked and if they've been totalled up correctly? Friend says the latter only Hmm

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 28/08/2019 22:15

@bigTillyMint sure they don't remark but just review the marking.

OP posts:
wigglybeezer · 28/08/2019 22:16

DS starts on the 9th of September and doesn't finish 'til December the 21st but he is off for virtually the whole of January.
