Following on from thread 8 which filled up in just 72 hours.

I'm becoming only slightly concerned that ds has heard literally zero from his University.

Unconditional offer, accepted as first choice in January. Didn't expect him to get a track email on Thursday or even an email from his Uni (he's living at home so no accommodation booking to do).

But it's now Wednesday and even people who went through clearing have timetables and logins etc... Wondering how long he should expect to wait before he hears anything confirming anything?!

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 21/08/2019 07:21

You could probably book for lunch/afternoon tea at Betty's to save queueing?

RedHelenB · 21/08/2019 07:23

@danglingmod If everyone else at the uni has had timetables I'd ring this morning.

TapasForTwo · 21/08/2019 07:26

DD hasn't heard anything much from her university either. Just confirming her accommodation. That's all. She hasn't joined any Facebook groups yet either.

Danglingmod · 21/08/2019 07:28

Thanks, RedHelen, but I meant people on this thread, not anyone we know who's going to his Uni, though they did say back in January that he'd get a timetable in August. I guess it is still August!

Piggywaspushed · 21/08/2019 07:36

dangling, DS has not had much either and I discovered via a Facebook group that there were lots of dept sessions in Freshers' Week:I have no idea how tis parent knew this but there was a page on the website.

Danglingmod · 21/08/2019 07:39

When you say "not much," do you mean only accommodation stuff or anything else?

I just thought he'd have had a Hello or Well Done or something by now.

milesandmilesandmileandmiles · 21/08/2019 07:40

Although, DD's department and most of the lectures are at Kings Manor, which most folks tastes could accommodate 😁

Danglingmod · 21/08/2019 07:41

I mean, isn't it a bit weird: he's had emails from the places he rejected asking him to reconsider but nothing from the place he accepted (and is more than qualified to go to). You'd think they'd want to make them feel welcome!

Danglingmod · 21/08/2019 07:42

Nah, milesandmiles, I prefer the mid century aesthetic.

EleanorReally · 21/08/2019 07:43

Just joining this thread as my dd is off to university very soon
she has joined her accommodation facebook group. so happy for her that she has found them.
plenty of other things i am concerned about.

milesandmilesandmileandmiles · 21/08/2019 07:43

piggy you also mentioned that your DS isn't participating in any of the chats going on. My DS didn't at all last year and still found his ' Tribe'.

EleanorReally · 21/08/2019 07:44

she was asking me last night whether she should pay for a freshers week pass, as her friend didnt bother last year.

anyone any idea?

Piggywaspushed · 21/08/2019 07:44

dangling, he got a Welcome Pack on results day which was just full of admin, none of which has been done, and info about lots of Freshers' events. I was worried he'd be overwhelmed and bored but then I discovered there was an actual lecture timetable online.

I'd have a look at the website to see if there is a Welcome Week tab.

That said, it does seem odd that you have had no welcome pack!

VanCleefArpels · 21/08/2019 07:46

danglingmod for the sake of your sanity I’d thrust a phone in his hand and get him to call. We’ve been inundated with stuff to do like online enrolment, medical centre registration, choosing modules etc on top of freshers events booking

Clankboing · 21/08/2019 07:49

Danglingmod, that does sound strange. I would investigate it. Lancaster sent ds a congratulations email on the early morning of his results. In fact he saw it before he saw his results. Then when we got back home from picking up the results a pack had already arrived in the post. I'm sure all universities are different but I would have thought that it's basic diplomacy to keep their 'customers' informed.

TapasForTwo · 21/08/2019 08:01

DD has heard nothing apart from the accommodation. She did apply post A levels earlier this year. She has been too busy to get on to any FB groups yet, and is off to Leeds festival today as a volunteer so won't have time until next week.

Danglingmod · 21/08/2019 08:06

Thanks, all.

He did get a reading list from the course leader several weeks ago but nothing else since.

Just seems a little rude to be wooing people through clearing all over their social media and advertising for next year's recruits whilst sending nothing to this year's intake. Still, several weeks until start date but I'll get him to chase up anyway.

blametheparents · 21/08/2019 08:08

IKEA - done!
£150 approximately.
That included everything though - new duvet and pillows, extension cable, desk lamp, stationery (from Wilko), toiletries, crockery, bath mat etc etc.
DS has a 38 week let, so although he could have taken his own duvet and desk lamp etc it would then mean all that stuff would need transporting every time which would mean the 38 week let was kinda pointless.

Danglingmod · 21/08/2019 08:08

It's that, I think, Clankboing. I think he should still have had a Congratulations on his results communication of some sort, despite being uc.

juicy0 · 21/08/2019 08:09

@TapasForTwo @Danglingmod same for my DD. No confirmation email received yet with details of how to register, timetables, lists or anything. Hers was unconditional too.

blametheparents · 21/08/2019 08:16

@danglingmod - DS did IB and so UCAS was updated back in early July for his course and university.
He heard absolutely nothing from the university until after A level results when he got a generic 'Congrats on your results' email.
I did think that they could have sent that email out to IB students somewhat earlier! It wouldn't have been difficult. I kept asking DS if he had heard anything from them, and he hadn't.

Horsemad · 21/08/2019 08:18

@Danglingmod, has your DS checked his spam folder?

I'd get him to call, just to put your mind at rest.

Just think, this time last week you were all stressing about what results they'd get...! 🙂

Danglingmod · 21/08/2019 08:22

Yep, he has checked spam folder (at my insistence; he's not bothered!)

Danglingmod · 21/08/2019 08:23

Sounds like other uc offer holders from different institutions are in the same boat.
