There are no catered options at the UEA. Shopping and cooking on a budget will be a
steep learning curve but hopefully one they can enjoy.

DD is self catered. She is pretty good at cooking but decided she should practice some quick and easy meals at home before she goes. Impressive looking Philly Cheesesteak last night but not sure how sirloin will fit into her food budget

Sounds yum. DD just home from Reading festival and has lost most of the brain cells she had last week . 5 days camping in high heat, lack of sleep , drinking and no showers, toilets full of nasties. She had a great time. I’m obviously getting old because that sounds me hell.

That was one of the main reasons dd chose her college.
I don't know if they swap your college whether they try and keep you with catered/self-catered as per your option. It would make sense.

This thread is giving me palpitations.

DS got in Lancaster. He's ridiculously laid back and telling me not to worry. He has recently diagnosed dyspraxia and Dyscalculia and was hoping for en suite accommodation but now looks like it's a shared bathroom so he's emailed back and not heard anything.

He routinely loses everything, can barely cook and struggles with time management. What could possibly go wrong

First on the list is an alarm for hearing impaired people I've heard about where you put a pad under your pillow or he'll never get up.

Is there a comprehensive list somewhere?
I'm wishing now he had picked a closer uni so he could stay at home even though I had the time of my life when i went - I will be constantly worrying. Plus his damn phone is never charged!!

Is John Snow Durham? Hadn’t heard of that college. DD chose Collingwood as her first choice and luckily got it. It’s close to her study base .

Dd said that most were catered, which was actually a good thing when she was choosing as she doesn't do decisions very well, so it immediately cut down the choice. I thought she said there were 3 or 4 colleges self-catered, but I may be wrong.

Is your DD going to Durham too witchend?
DD said much the same but chose the college for the college not for the choice of catering so would have got on with SC if she’d chosen a SC college for other reasons. I meant there is no choice of catering once you’ve chosen your college.

Dd didn't decide that easily. We had the 48 hours for decisions for UCAS for firm and insurance with her changing her mind regularly. She only really put Durham first because it was higher than Southampton and so she didn't have to make a choice between them and could leave it up to the fates!

Oo there seems to be a North East vibe to this thread at the moment although, by the sound of it, Newcastle and Durham freshers’ weeks are different beasts!

DD is very independent and wants to do everything herself so I haven’t done anything for uni apart from buy bedding and things for her room. Even then she wants to do it herself. I suppose it’s a good thing.

@justasking111 meals are really flexible at York, breakfast is 8-10.30 and evening meal is 6-8.30

You can also take food out such as sandwiches or boxed salads to eat later if it's not a convenient time.
