Following on from our previous thread.

Good luck to all DC awaiting results and university places.

School question: Is it only the SLT and the Exams Officer(s) who get to see the results today?

DS first choice is asking for 2 grades less in clearing - BBB rather than AAB. Fingers crossed for tomorrow

Thank you Fibbs - it's been awful and we are not out of the woods yet.

Coffee we thought it would be a good distraction, and his driving is really good. He drives my car all the time. I am going to rebook on Friday, I need my nerves to settle down tomorrow.

DD's firm uni (York) had asked for AAA , but now is showing at ABB in clearing.

And her insurance (Liverpool) had asked for ABB but now wants BBC

Some of these clearing grades are more like I was offered 35 years ago (BCC & CDD)!

Help! My son's chosen course is showing the same grades in clearing as he had in his offer. Does that mean that if he drops a grade there may not be any wriggle room for still getting in?

Report
Rosieposy4 · 14/08/2019 21:41

Redrec so is DSs, still at AAA, don’t know whether to worry more or less!

Just dropping in to sympathise with everyone on tenterhooks for tomorrow. Just waiting for an AS result, important but not crucial.

I was thinking back to my school days eons ago when we decided with our friends that maybe we'd go and get our results in the afternoon to avoid too many people being around. They were just stuck on a piece of paper on the school door - school locked, not a teacher or student hugging/ crying or throwing hat in the air in sight. Certainly no local newspaper reporters. How times have changed ....

De-lurking here too. A belated thank you for all the great advice over the last few threads. DD1 awaiting A'levels tomorrow, DD2 GCSEs next Thurs, and I'm awaiting a nervous breakdown on their behalves. DD1 has taken herself to her room and told us not to bother her until she's checked her results at 6.30am tomorrow...trying to follow her wishes but it's killing me. Have taken to the bath to stay away, but just found her course in clearing at ABB/A*BC rather than the AAA she was offered so hopefully that is a good thing. Also for those that failed their driving tests, she passed hers last week (5th attempt) so don't give up!!

@Miljah dds course looks to be in clearing but it should make it easier to get a first in theory if loads get in through clearing. Bear in kind you dibt know how many places there are that haven't been filled. It could be 10 or 100

I think the courses with a larger percentage of "less able" students would be the ones with lower entry requirements from the outset.

Looking at all those clearing places at really good unis it almost would make accepting an unconditional look like a bad idea...almost like you should deliberately miss an offer at a decent middling uni and then go for clearing at York (for example...) with its apparent BBCs !!

Interesting that dd1 doing sports science will end up needing similar grades to far more academic dd2 who wants to do english lit or ancient history! In fact sports science is still ABB in clearing at Birmingham whereas Ancient history is BBC!
