Following on from our previous thread.

Good luck to all DC awaiting results and university places.

School question: Is it only the SLT and the Exams Officer(s) who get to see the results today?

How do you get to see courses in clearing??

Good luck for tomorrow everyone.
Have left DH on holiday with the little ones and am travelling back to be with DS1 tomorrow.
He sounded cheered up by the low grade boundaries for Edexcel Maths earlier but it was his best subject and he was hoping for an A*.
He doesn’t think he’ll get that now.
Can’t wait for tomorrow to be over so we all know where we stand.

Just signing in for tomorrow, feeling very nervous for DS2 as these are retake results and he really doesn’t want to go into clearing and the possible accommodation issue that can come with clearing.
Good news though DS1 got his HNC result today and he got a merit which I’m so pleased with, as he only expected a pass, it also means that he will now definately be going to Bournemouth Arts to do his Model Making degree 🙌 as he needed a pass to get in.
One down, one to go!

on the univesrity websites - Southampton & Liverpool have are easy to search, Cardiff & Bangor more guarded

Just found it. Thanks.

DS firm is in clearing (Loughborough) but he wants a gap year so is irrelevant! I just wanted to see Grin

Thank you for the new thread, we're going to need it to make it through the next 24hours !

Bangor say you need to contact them fro grades

www.bangor.ac.uk/clearing/courses.php.en

Cardiff I couldn't find the grades - only their standard ones (since Liverpool & Soton have reduced I assume Cardiff will too but not advertising it?)

If a course you’re applying for is in clearing at a lower requirement - does that mean they’ll also be accepting students they gave an offer to at that mark?

Desperately trying to avoid looking at the gin tonight Grin

I think it's a fairly safe bet - I assume they'll go unconditional offers, successful conditional firms, successful conditional insurances, near miss firms, then near miss insurances before they get to clearing. Clearing students are more likely to drop out I believe & the uni would rather take an original applicant with the same grades (I hope!).

Just seen the Tesco burger results ad. Must admit it made my eyes moisten. If dd gets her grades I won’t be cooking anything for her tomorrow as she’ll be out with her friends so we are having burgers tonight (Sainsbury’s Grin) with my special homemade chips.

Although Warwick is saying all maths courses are full, and Southampton (his insurance) shows maths courses with no change to requirements so far

Well dd2 just tried to be really friendly and supportive to dd1 and dd1 absolutely bit her head off. It's going to be a shite 14 hours.

I'm going for the low alcohol gin tonight so I can have a clear head for early tomorrow morning!

Thanks everyone I’m so pleased as it’s been a long journey for DS1, he’s 22 in 10 days so is a ‘mature’ student (as if 🤣).
Interestingly I’ve just looked in clearing again and DS2 first choice biology at Birmingham is now in clearing, (it wasn’t there before) it’s still saying the same grades on UCAS, so I checked on the Birmingham University website and it says that the clearing grades are BBB a lot lower than their ABB standard offer !

My dds firm choice course is in the clearing list one of the entry grades has dropped down one from her offer grades, so does that mean if she gets lower but gets what is on the clearing criteria she will get a place?

Is there any safety net for clearing or limit on when offers can be made? Just checked Southampton and they say you can apply from 6am tomorrow and call them from 8am. My son’s school isn’t open until 9am for results and he wanted to pick up in person first rather than check online.

Ah - I've just been on the 7thread about the same thing its cold! - the Birmingham website is showing a lot of courses in clearing, with the required grades as well which is helpful.

Is anyone planning to actually go in to school with their DC. I mean go into the building with them?

DD wants me to go in with her. Total opposite of GCSE results day.

Report
NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 14/08/2019 18:56

DS told me that parents aren't allowed in the school hall for opening of results (but not sure if that's true).
